Help.  I rode to  work thismorning, ( I leave at 4am)Upon getting there I had a voicemail, letting me know that my 99 std with cobra exhaust woke our 9 month old twins ( at 4 in the morning). I now find myself in bad need of the stock exhaust for my bike, as the Cobras were installed by the PO. If anyone has a set thats in their way, I'd be happy to get them out of your way for a low price, as this wasnt in the budget ( gotta love $4.25 a gallon) I am also willing to trade the 6x6's if you would like to switch to them.   They have approx. 5k miles on them, and like all the others that i've seen are blue at the headers.  Any help to keep me from going missing would be GREATLY appreciated...

Yup, I double checked that when I got home. i've ordered a roll of medium steel wool for the baffles, and am going to use freeze plugs with a 3/4" hole drilled in them to try to quite this down...

Steel wool won't last. It'll rust out in a few days. It also burns due to ferric oxide being produced in the rusting process. If you can find it, use bronze wool. Check paint supply stores as it's used in fine wood finishing.

You can try stainless steel wool.

You can get the bronze wool at boat shops... as it will not rust.

Don't twist the damn right hand dial, that be dat throttle, too much, you can keep them fairly quiet if ya try hard enough.

Maybe push it out the drive so ya don't go past the kids bedroom window.

If there is a way, do it.

Do like we did in the USMC, we improvised.   Otherwise we would of still been sleeping outdoors.

I have a set of MartT's, Just pop in the silencers when you leave, when you get away, take them out and pop them into your bags.  This is the best of both worlds, nice sound when you want and quiet when leaving with silencers (get a heat bag or wrap for storage in your saddle bags.  They'll be warm when you pull them out after escaping the baby wake zone). You can even add trombones for straight pipes when you'll like to be really loud.   stick them in your bags, and install when you remove silencers.  You can even use a wingnut for the  silencer fastener, makes it quick.   It should also add a few more ponies.  

I do have a set of recent take-offs.  No trombones, but silencers.   I am considering putting them on the market.  They are slash down, length right to tip of rear fender.  They are in a condition where the copper pipes behind the heat shields still look new.  The chrome is excellent.  No pits.  virtually no flaws (maybe a few light surface scratches from road debris when riding,  but you lose them from a foot away...and they can probably be polished out).

I took them off only because I loved the pipes but couldn't get past that they'd be even better with trombones and a crossover (which I recommend if you have the cash, because it is better).  The issue is that I haven't really thought what I'd put on them for a price, they'd obviously be cheaper than a new set from Mark, but I don't really know how much that should be.  I paid $780 (inc shipping) for them four months before I bought my new ones.

Get another set of baffles and cut them in half. Pull the present ones and weld the extra length to them. It does make a difference.

I bet if you do it everyday they will get use to it. Kinda like sleeping at a rally.  Can you insulate the wall by the garage to help with the sound?
