Billet Grip installation? Giving me trouble!

So I got some Highway Hawk billet grips (I always ride with gloves), and attempted an installation today.  They didn't come with adhesive, so I went to the local dealer and bought grip glue.  However, after a few hours, the glue seemed pretty dry, but did not grip, and therefore I couldn't turn the throttle and the grip just tried to slide off.  I scuffed the plastic throttle assembly with sandpaper in the hopes of getting more grip with the glue.  The other side has a set screw.  I used glue on it anyhow, for good measure, and didn't loosen the set screw to see how it stuck.  So, did I not use enough glue?  Did I not wait long enough?  Is there something I'm completely overlooking???   :uglystupid2:

I would go and get a can of the extra hold hair spray. Been using it whenever I change out grips. I also use a hacksaw blade for shimming against the housing where the grip butt up against. That way it done get stuck. Also once you use the hair spray when you start installing the grip don't stop, do it quickly.

I believe the OP is referencing their all billet grips [No Rubber Components] in which case "Hair Spray" doesn't stand a chance.
The clues: Left grip set screw and "I always ride with gloves."

I would suggest 2 things for the throttle grip.
1.) Rough up the throttle sleeve as you have and the inside of the new throttle grip also with coarse sand paper and try the Honda Grip Glue again. But, this time let it cure for at least a day. 48 hours would be better.
And, carry a cheap rubber grip in the event the throttle grip cuts loose away from home. Operating by throttle sleeve only is possible, but your fingers may wrap around to your wrist.

Too bad a set screw won't work with the nylon throttle sleeve. Risk of binding is very high!

2.) Still having problems. Get a hold of the manufacturer for suggestions.

Thanks guys, I think I might try Gorilla Glue.  Just have to watch out for expansion.

So for anyone interested, I left the clutch side grip alone, in the hopes that if the set screw loosens up, the original coating of grip glue will be gummy enough to hold it together till I tighten the screw back up.  On the throttle side, I marked on the sleeve where I wanted the grip to snug up to (close to the throttle body and switch housing), then removed the plastic throttle sleeve.  I squirted a helping of Gorilla Glue inside the grip and inserted the sleeve.  Putting the glue inside the grip instead of on the sleeve meant that when it slid in, the glue didn't push out the side on the throttle housing side of things.  It did push out on the other end which I cleaned up in good shape so as not to gum up the threads for the removable end cap, or to gum up the inside of the throttle sleeve, which would really stink to get that thing stuck wide open due to glue being in there.  Seems to be working fine.  That Gorilla Glue is never going to come off.  If I want to do anything different I'll have to replace the throttle sleeve but that's ok.  I started her up and gave her some juice and everything seemed fine.  I'll drive it this evening and make sure everything's ok, but I'm not worried about it.  Should be all set.  Thanks everyone for the input.
