Leaking Right Front Fork Seal

I have a leaking right front fork seal on my 98 Tourer. If I'm not going to replace the springs, I understand that I don't need the Honda special tool to do the job. Is that correct? This a list of parts that I compiled to do the job. Did I forget anything? TIA

Can't remember the full parts list, SG, but the DFW Football has the fork tool in it in case you want to do the Full Monty.

Hey Victor, Serk just had Xander's Cycles in Forney do a complete rebuild on his front end seals.  If I remember corrrectly $200 parts and labor.  Just an option.  I know I would not try to tear it down for that.

The special tool is for the left fork. You can drive the seal and bushing in with a piece of PVC. You can also use a piece of 35mm film and push it up between the fork leg and seal to dislodge anything that might be causing the leak. Worth a shot before you tear it down or pay a shop to do it. I'd bet that $200 is with the forks removed...

  I have not. I've been riding the Interstate while the tourer right fork seal is still leaking in the garage. I have to work every other weekend and it seems that when we have a wrench party, I am working. I might just break down and take it to Cycle Werkz in Fort Worth and have it done. I have already purchased all the replacement parts needed to do the job, but I have never done one before. I have 10 days off starting the 18th of this month until the 27th. If someone wants to show me how it's done I will pay you or buy your lunch or both.

Semi-correct. I'd ordered the parts myself before hand because I was going to try to wrench party it, but I just never got a chance to make it to one. Xander Cycles did it for $200 labor, I brought him the parts (Well, he supplied the fork oil and labor.)

It was still money well spent IMHO to just "Get it done"....

Victor ,if you were a little closer ,I d ride over and gie you a hand . since you got more than one bike, take the time to do it yourself and learn. just follow the manual and thre s more than enough help on this board!

When I rebuilt my right fork (again  ) this summer, instead of using the fork lower as a slide hammer on the PVC fork tool, I used a wood stand that I had built for another purpose to make a press. Used two 2x2 as handles on each side of a 2x4, just high enough to sit on the PVC seal tool while the fork tube was on the base. Pressed it in and it snapped in with authority.

And I re-used the seal I had as it was new from the earlier rebuild because I STILL couldn't find any scratches that would have been causing my seeping. Once the seal snapped in this time, it hasn't leaked since (fingers crossed!)

This could be a purpose built press, or most likely just attached to a wall stud with the fork on the floor.

Victor I understand.  Work and my family have been keeping me real busy too.

Some great info here .  I will try the film to see if I can clean it out first.

I called Al Lambs today and the cost of them doing my front forks was close to $350 which is more than I want to spend.  Xander's Cycle sounds more reasonable so I will call them.

I have been thinking about adding progressive springs so maybe I can talk my wife into an early Chritsmas present  .

Had a m/c shop install new leaky seal on right fork.
Still leaks. Tech sezz it's leaking from the bottom (threads )
And just needs to be tightened . Truth or b/s ? Thoughts please !

Is the oil ON the forks or just puddling on the ground and on your wheel/tire? If puddling, it IS the bolt in the bottom of the fork. You have to remove the axle enough to get the hex wrench up in the hole and tighten it. Happened to me.

Yep, I picked the Valk up Friday  .  He installed new fork and dust seals, replaced the oil, and installed new RaceTech springs for the cash price of $328.83.  I think that is a great price so if you want to give them a call  .
