I am thinking about going to Alaska on my Valk.  Any advice from those that have made that ride?

After you get your gear together in a pile, put half of it back in the house. Look at the money you planned to take, double it.
I've been up there twice. Except for fuel prices, you can spend as much or as little as you like. First trip was 5 weeks, and I camped every night. I bought food at grocery stores and ate from the saddlebags. I had no breakdowns, so no expenditures at all.
Look here: http://www.themilepost.com/ There is an online version of last year's version somewhere.
Best trips I ever took. If you go in the summer (recommended for a bike!) take something for the bugs. The whole state is a swamp all summer long.
I ride a motorcycle because nothing transports me as quickly from where I am to who I am.

Fly up, buy a bike, go everywhere. sell the bike and fly home.  I've talked to a lot of people that have driven /ridden up and that road can be a nightmare.  My parents had a 6 hour wait one time for a road crew working on a section of the "highway".
I went up a few years ago for 3 weeks.  That is the minimum time  That I would reccomed.  If I was going up I would try to rent a bike there to use.

Go! Absolutely go! The Valk will do fine!

I wouldn't skip the trip through Canada, it's beautiful and more than half the adventure. That, in and of itself, is a life-changing thing.
