I have a 98 Standard and the shock setting is on the oem 2. I ride 2 up most of the time with a combined weight of 385 lbs. and It has been a smooth ride so far. I just put on some RB relos that set me down 1" and with very little lean my floorboards hit. I was really surprised that on flat terrain just leaning slightly to make a turn my boards hit. Then I went up a mountain near the house with back to back 90* S turns and had to ride like a lilttle old lady bc she was shooting sparks at the slightest lean.  Any suggestions will be appreciated!

TJ

With that weight you need to be on 3 or 4.... to be honest you need new shocks, those
oem are worn out by now...

+1 Im with TJ.  OEM standard shocks are minimal when new, and surely done by now.  Also Im not sure what an RB relo is but if it lowered the valk at all, well there you go.  Rider boards always hit early, couple that with inadequate shocks and lowered bike and you now have a bar hopper not a twisties turner......

I sure would hate to come out of a bar the way it is now! The bike just has a little over 10k and the shocks feel good, no bottoming out. BTW, RB is Rattlebars

RB relo = Rattlebars Peg Relocators.  I speak South Carolineese.   ;)

Floorboards and Rattlebars Relocation kit might be dropping you too low.  You might have to go with either the floorboards or the relo kit and not both or go with different floorboards which would negate the reason for the relo kit.  I have the relo kit with factory pegs and occasionally drag the pegs.  I dragged them alot when I took a rider safety class.
Thanks,

Thanks Marty.........I agree any lowering of the peg mount and then a board too, thats a straight liner for sure.  And if hes got a TV on it that is adding a lot of weight.  Im not up on all these abbreviations  ???

Dug up an extra pair of boards I have and a set of rider pegs from one of my Valks and made some measurements.

The boards are 3/4" from the bottom of the board to the bottom of the mount that goes into the frame and the board is 1/2" thick and 5.5" wide.  The top of the board is about 1/4" below the mount.

The stock peg is about 1.1 inches from the bottom of the mounting bolt head to the bottom of the mounting block and it is 1.5" thick and 4.5" wide.  The measurement at the drag bolt is about .9".  The top of the peg is about 1/2" above the bottom of the mount.

So, even though the stock peg is thicker than the Cobra floorboard, it will hit first as it sticks out about an inch farther from the frame.

XGuy, I have a 2000 STD with stock shocks, Two up most of the time and our combined weight is close to yours, I have recently gone from a setting of 4 to 5 because it would bottom out on large whoop dee dos. Now it is harder to scrape the pegs, I started out at 3 but with 38,000 miles on her I have had to set them up, Will probably replace the shocks this winter. Try them at 4 and see how you like it.

Wouldn't the shocks just raise the suspension and not the frame?

Then why the measurements?? Don't get it.

All the people saying boards hit first but there was no discussion of why.  So I decided to take measurements so we would know.  I discovered that the boards don't hang lower than the stock pegs They are an inch wider and that does limit your lean angle somewhat.

recently I installed  Progressive 440HD shocks and If I had known what I had been missing I would have installed them a long time ago.  I have recently  go over many of the same roads that were a 2 up buckboard ride for us on the OEM shocks and now the bike feels great, I hesitate to say the old cliche, but it feels like a new bike. Together with packed bags we are in the 400 lb range and the shocks are on the second ring setting.
Perhaps my experience  of such an improvement in ride wouldn't be the same for everyone but I can say for us it is a dramatic improvement.
