I'm looking at modifying the interstate pipes on my 99 std. The plan is looking like removing the piggies for access, drilling the rear baffles, and then reinstalling the piggies to avoid the dreaded drone. Whats the point to drilling the hole to 1/2" is this a "special" size? I know there are those that have gone through this that are smarter than I so that's why i'm asking. I'm looking at using a 3/8" bit, and going from there, I can always bump up to 1/2" for more if needed. Anyone see any problems???

3/8 th holes are fine. That be the size i have in my rear baffle only. :2funny: Like you said-you can always increase to 1/2 inch later. :coolsmiley: RIDE SAFE.
Today is the tommorow you worried about yesterday. If at first you don't succeed screw it-save it for nite check.  1964  1968 U S Navy. Two cruises off Nam.

remove the chrome covers and cut 7 1/2 inches off the back of the pipes, thats the rear baffle section,,,drill out the baffles in the pipes,,now slip over the truck stacks and take a listen,, it will be loud,,sorta,,,now cut off the piggies of the rear baffles and slide them into the back of the stacks,,, almost stock sounding now,,,i put mine in with one screw so they can be removed real quick like,,,

Cut the whole thing off behind the foot pegs and slip on some glass packs and truck stacks and never look back.

Best sounding Valk in the world has these, Mine.

Not looking to get LOUD, ( Thats why I traded my Cobra's for the stockers) Just want a bit of rumble, so I don't get laughed at when going under bridges. I wish Magnaflow made motorcycle exhaust....

Mine was 3/8. You'll be fine. Get a long bit and you wont have to hack off the pigs.

Now you're in the world of the wolves...

Youngpup; Magnaflow makes glass packs, and you can use glasspacks in your Valk exhaust, so yes, they do.

One step at a time. Make a mod and then ride a few hundred miles
at different speeds to see if you want to go to the next step. 3/8 is
a good start, then 1/2, then front baffles. YMMV

YP.,
I have the drill set up for a 1/2". i cut the piggies off just to get a lil noise. nothing like a set of 6x6's.
if you need the drill bit let me know.
i also have the truck turn outs as turn donws if you want to hear them.

or....................find a set that has already been cut/drilled. save the stock.
if you like the cut/drilled fine, if not go back to the stock.
unmolested exhaust are going to get harder to find, IF you want to go back.

as in don't burn your bridges. :)

Thats why i'm only planning on drilling the rears and going no farther. If the Gov. decides to crack down on us later, I should be able to undo the holes with some freeze plugs and a length of pipe.

Mr Whiskey

Took me 3 months or better to get the factory exhaust to sound like I wanted.
One step at a time cause I didn't want to get so loud Sugar wouldn't wanna ride.
1) Cut pigs, road a lot, not loud enough.
2) Drilled rear baffles with 3/4 inch bit (it does fit I swear!), road a lot, not loud enough.
3) Installed 18 inch turn down tips from Truck Pro, road 1 time, new tips hit witch decreased lean angle,(unacceptable), not loud enough.
4) Cut 3 inches off turn downs at front and rotated to turn OUTS, road 1 time, tips hit witch decreased lean angle,(unacceptable), still not loud enough!
5) Said to h*** with it, REMOVED rear baffles (Ragnar Cut) and reinstalled factory I/S tips, ahhhh PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!! (And still not as loud as I thought it would be, Sugar luvs it!)
Peace, Whiskey.
Peace, Whiskey.

+1 As some of us age the sound of a loud exhaust just loses it's appeal. And if God forbid you go to sell it, stock is the best way to get most of your $ back. I know if I ever have to buy another, if it comes with loud exhaust my offer will reflects going back to an enjoyable ride. I don't want to have to wear ear plugs to ride.  I also enjoy conversing with the wife without having to scream. My days of punching holes to make obnoxious noise are over... I am secure in what I ride and don't need to say look at me or scare small children. (Last part was a Joke)

if you have a set of mini train horns on it ,, you wont need loud exhaust to save lives!!!

with glass packs you can always tell the cops that you have 1 big baffle in each pipe :cooldude:
