I thought this was a good deal on Phoenix Craig'slist. If anyone is serious about it I can put the time to check it out for them. I am not associated with the bike or add.

Yea, he or she would have to have Power Of Attorney to sell it I believe if the owner is overseas.  Doesn't seem too bad a deal... but I hate those small CL pics.... hard on the old eyes....  ;)

DEPLOYED TO IRAQ makes the hairs on my neck stand up.

Sounds like scam talk.

Yeah, me too, I already reported it to the mods a few hours ago.

Let's see, -there is a phone number, a couple pics, a fair price-sounds worth looking at if you lived nearby.
Why does it seem like a scam?  no contact info?-nope, the ph. no. is there
Why does it seem like a scam? the bike is where it can be seen and ridden, not in a warehouse  ready to ship with some BS form of protected payment mathod.
Obviously if you looked at it and rode it, you would be asking title questions and be sure it was a real sale, before you parted with any money.
Why does it seem like a scam? too low a price?- nope seems priced to sell
What mods would you report it to? Craigs list has no "mods"
Maybe it's real, maybe not. I don't see anything to consider it a scam.
take personal responsibility and keep your word

98 Tourer, black and chrome, added 8/11/10
98 Std, yellow/cream, totaled 8/3/10

If you read / receive enough scam ads / emails these first sentences are exactly like the scammers use.

"I have this 1998 Honda Valkyrie that I am selling for a friend who was deployed to Iraq. He did not leave me the details on it, and I am not a motorcycle person."

It would be easy for me to check it out, if anyone is seriously interested. You call the guy and if his story sounds straight, and I do the physical contact with him. I think it would be safe. I have nothing to gain in this other that help someone on VRCC buy it if they think it is a good deal. I can have Big BF vouch for me if you think my efforts are suspect. just trying to help...

Started out on old forum on day one but lost my member number.

I left a voice mail on the Craigslist phone number - Phoenix area code. Coupla hours later got a call back from a Chicago area phone number.

So he took it for a ride from Phoenix to Chicago.... and when you are on a Valk, it shouldn't be more than a few hours should it....    ;D

Was it the seller of the bike, or just another strange call?

Calling from a different area code isn't odd when it's with a military member.  I've lived in 4 states since I obtained my virginia beach area code.  Alaska, Texas, Georgia, and now Florida.  Us military guys move so dang much changing phone numbers isn't an option.  Just my $.02.

Like Paul Harvey..... "And now, the rest of the story"         So what was the jist of the conversation or the message that was left?

I think the point of the post might have been missed by some. Whether the ad was legit or not, your
offer to check out the bike for a VRCC member shows your character and good testament. Thanks for the offer 2weelz!

JEEEZZZ.
A fellow VRCC'r offers to help someone he's never met.
To buy a bike he personally has no interest in, other than the fact its a Valk.
Its like "Real housewives of the VRCC".
Hang a bunch of scam. He OFFERED to go look.
His time, effort and gas.
Leave the conspiricy crap to the usual suspects.
Thanks 2weelz.
Aot of guys with burn marks, gnarly scars and funny twitches ask why I spend so much on safety gear
