I don't remember what sci-fi shows those come from, but it is fun to see them set to music. The first might be okay on a bright day without the lights turned on. In a light parade it would really stand out blinking around.

Heck, I wouldn't buy the first one but I'd probably wear it.

So exactly what is a "real" cyclist and who assigns the authority to make that determination?  Some think only Harley riders are real motorcyclists.  Some think only those who ride the right bike, wear the right clothes, party with the right crowd, and attend the right rallies are real bikers.  Some of us think people who ride less than 10,000 miles per year aren't real riders.  Some think anyone who can effectively control a motorized two wheeled vehicle is a real cyclist.

I'll bet some of are wearing hats today that someone once said no real cyclist would wear.   ;)

I don't ride a harley. I don't wear bright party colors. My helmet does match my bike's paint job so maybe that counts for something. I do ride more than 10,000 miles a year, but not by as many miles as I once did. I also don't winterize my bike. I don't know if I'm real or not. I'd still wear the first during the day, and short parade jaunts at night.

The other day, I saw a kid on a bicycle dressed as a storm trooper pedaling to a comic book shop. I don't know if his helmet was safe but it was cool. :)

BigAl decides, and it turns out that "real" cyclists have their britches stuffed into their boots...

I don't think they were meant as riding helmets.  They don't look functional to me, only cosmetic.  I think that was his point.
However, speaking as one amongst the geek class, that's cool.  Turn off the blinking lights, make it an actual crash helmet rather than "novelty", and I'd wear it just for reaction's sake.

Just reminded myself of the original topic of this thread.  Maybe I was wrong on what his point was, but mine still stands.  Cool!

Looks like crotch rocket helmets have come a long way. I snapped this one a couple of years ago on the dragon. Caption added by me.
