quick and easy harley fairing mount

well time to upgrade the fairing as i managed to dump the bike and break up the Memphis shades fairing.

It took a week or so to gather the parts from Ebay.

First thing i did was mount the upper faring mounts to the inner fairing. then slid my upper Memphis shades clamp to the very top of the fork tube. sliding the inner into place i marked where i would need to cut to clear the upper trippletree. a quick 5 mins with a grinder and they were done.







next i adjusted the lower clamps to line up.<< NOTE: the outside face to face of the clamps is the correct width for the Harley mounts.>> after paint and remounting them to the inner,i bolted the inner in place. swinging the bars from stop to stop i found that the lower leg covers contacted the radiator. a couple of quick marks and some jigsaw work and the problem was fixed.







next i attempted to install the outer fairing , but , found a clearance problem with the gauges contacting the outer shell. once again to the grinder. (the gauges are inside the fairing so weather is not an issue)



a couple of other clearance issues related to the older Shovelhead light bar i had previously installed and the install was complete. total time 2hs 50mins.





NOTE: THIS WORK WAS DONE THIS MORNING OUTSIDE, BAKING IN THE SUN WITH NO BEER !!

That looks great... it would take me a month (or maybe I'd have to use beer) to
get up enough nerve to turn the grinders loose on the gages... closed-in fairings
look top-notch

So if I'm gettin' this right, you mounted Memphis Shades bat wing mounts to a Harley inner fairing......right?

Where'd you get the innner and outter fairing and other parts you used?  Links?

i used the memphis shades fork rings only. as you can see in the pics, i modified the original harley upper mounts to bolt to these clamps. all parts were purchased off ebay.

well, i picked up an indicator light assy from pinwall (in mounts in dash just above the radio) got one for for a 2001 ( has bulbs , rather than surface mount leds) pulled the turn wires from the little turn light and hooked them to the correct bulbs now it shows left or right turns separately, hooked up neutral light and high beam light everything is now in dash and nice and neat!!. waiting on adapters for 6-1/2" speakers and an Aquatic 'real waterproof'  stereo that holds my ipod inside the unit.

I wish I had known it was that easy to use the harley hardware..I made my own mounting....next time around I will do it your way.

Which Harley fairing did you use? Was it the FLHT Electra? I'm concerned about getting the wrong one.

That looks pretty slick. 

I'd consider doing same to my Tourer but want the ability to switch between a Memphis Shades fairing and one of their Fats windshields. To my knowledge, none of the currently available Trigger-Lock plates work with the Fats shields so I'm going to modify a pair of the Fats plates and hope they work.

When all is said and done with this bike, it'll wear a pair of I/S pods into which digital oil pressure and water temperature gauges will be mounted. The FLH inner fairing would provide a home for a fuel level gauge, a voltmeter, air temperature gauge...maybe a suspension pressure gauge (as I have on my I/S) if I stuffed a compressor assembly inside the setup.

The finishing touch would be Dakota Digital speedo and tach units. A week's worth of time on a test fixture would get the odometer reading to match the ~17.5K figure now on the bike.
