Death of 98 Valkyrie

I am sad to announce the death of my 1998 Valkyrie custom Standard. After replacing the headlight...ya know, the one with all color coded and one fit connections. After doing that it started and ran one day and quit. The next day I asked you guys what it could be and got lots of great ideas. I did replace the battery, did not wok, replaced the start relay, did not work, replaced the starter, did not work, the start and kill switch, did not work, all the fuses and anything else you guys and the Honda dealer (good friend) could think of. So, today after the last try, after spending lots of money and time getting parts it did not run, just nothing.
I had enough, the thing got the best of me and I kind of freaked out (retired military with some "Issues")
I took my handy 3LB hand sledge and proceeded to smash the tank, gauges, side covers, fenders and of course the headlight which caused it all.
I left it alone in the nice warm garage I had for it and went and bought a X-Mas tree for the Grandkids. I got back couple of hours later and sat down to look at the destruction I had caused to my bike of many years that had never caused me any problems and always ran great. I had put thousands of extras into her and kept it washed and waxed after every run.
It did feel great to do this I must say, for a minute that is. I cant afford to rebuild her on my military retirement and so it will just sit there and rot most likely. I wont sell or give her away, just let her sit there so I can see what I have done to the one thing I had, that I took care of, that was only mine. I will double the dose of my meds actually marked for "RAGE" and "ANGER" and see how that works but I will never reclaim what I have lost or undo the damage. Never let yourself get to this point, take this as something a lost soul could only do.

I'm sorry both for you and the bike. But I won't judge you. I'll just say that I'm glad you took out your frustrations on an inanimate object that can't feel pain. As bad as you feel you could be feeling worse.

As Chris mentioned though, please seek some help (if you haven't already). You're no less a man for asking for a hand.

I watched a neighbor a number of years ago cutting his grass (Nam Vet) his lawn mower was acting up and just quit on him for about the 3rd or 4th time, after pulling on the starter rope for about 3 minutes the cord finally broke on the old mower,well the poor dude was furious. I was about to go over and offer him my mower so he could finish his yard when he stormed into his house, he came out with a shotgun and shot the hell out of that mower, he then went into his garage got a shovel and dug a hole right in the middle of his yard and was in the process of burying that mower when the police showed up. Well a few years later the guy ended up having a massive heart attack and died. The moral of this story is Bozz you need to control that temper and you need help to get it under control,your issues will be the death of you. At the time my neighbor Tim was going ape out in the yard alot of folks thought it was funny, it wasn't funny at his funeral watching those that cared for him greave.

I did the same exact thing to a LazyBoy recliner which continued to malfunction.  Swung so hard I knocked parts of it out into the back yard.  Felt pretty good..... but I was only out a couple hundred.

Sorry for your loss.  Remember that anger and stress do you no good whatsoever and can ruin your quality of life.  Get a handle on it buddy, count your blessings and love your family.  My personal experience is that anger and stress are best relieved by constructive hard, sweating physical exercise or labor.  Drugs and/or alcohol are not your friend.

BOZZ, at this time of your life, you need to move on with your life.  The best way I can think of to do that is to not hold on to the remains of your beloved '98 Valk, as that will only keep the juices boiling each time you go out to the garage.  Therefore, in the utmost concern I have for your welfare, I will come and pick up the remains of your deceased Valk and give them a proper final chapter.  Just think how the demise of your Valk could help other Valks in poor running condition...you sure your Valk isn't an organ donor????

i really hate to tell you this, but i think i might know what it was.  this last summer at maggie valley, a guy by the name of Lloyd couldn't get his Valk running, turned out to be a bad wire terminal in the starter solenoid, pushed it in to connect better and away it went.   hope that isn't it!!

Been there done that.not with my valk but in my younger days I've lost it a few times an done some damage to stuff .As I got older I calmed dow a little an haven't done it in several years.Besides its too expensive.Leave the valk till next spring an then you can calmly repair it or part it out.Just relax you are not alone.art

I dont know if I believe this post of not.  If it is true I am appalled, if its false I cant figure out why anyone would post something like this.

If your going to go out and spend all that money on parts why didnt you just take it to a mechanic, it would been cheaper.

You could have posted your problem in the Tech board and tried the things your brothers suggested, especially the ones that do not cost anything or are cheaper, then work your way up. 

I am a military vet, and I would never blame my actions on the time I have served my country.

We are a band of brothers  who love and cherish the Valkyrie.  We understand what this motorcycle is and what it stands for and we keep it alive even though no more will be made.

But I have been there and had 'enough' of something mechanical.  But I was not so raged that I didn't asses the cost of said bashing recipient.  I had a $100 leaf blower that quit.  I tore it apart several times and could never get it to work... I eventually beat it apart.  Just so it'd fit in the trash can ya know.
