has any one got something better for rust ?

Can't remember how I came across this stuff, but ordered it off the net and used it on all the rusted parts on the Valk rescue I'm doing.  It works great to get the rust and road grim off of any thing.  Just soak the part over night and it comes out looking new.

Some buddies tell me Coka Cola will do the same, but I've never had luck with that, though I only tried it once.

Wish I found it before I did the last rescue. Would have saved alot of time and effort.

#17, 18, & 48 came out like I bought them brand new.  Just ordered a gallon so I can do all the bag frames. 

Do a Google search for "Kano".  No association whatsoever.

Ment to mention, it's pricey, but you mix it 1 part Exrust to 3 parts water and it's reusable.  I did alot of stuff with the pint I bought this summer.

I replaced a bunch of rusty chrome bits when I got my bike. I still
have some of them, I know I have the little frob that holds the
brake lines off the front fender... it would be a good test item

I had all ready replaced those on this bike before I found this stuff.  I put the old ones in the soak and they came out looking brand new.

Would have paid for the gallon I just bought.

I've been using Evaporust available online or at HF. Works as you described for the Kano product, it also can be reused, and costs less. It's great there are such products to use for restorations that are "safe" and really work.

Oxilaic acid is the cats ass. I saw it on a bicycle restoration site. They said to get it at the big box hardware stores as "wood Bleach"
I used some "bar keepers friend" it is Oxilaic acid too. IT WAS AMAZING. I took a mason jar and put some rusty brackets in it for a couple of hours and they came out looking great! And it's cheap! For chrome only.

Oxilaic acid?  From the looks of the before and after on that bicycle site, this stuff looks pretty good.  Next time I'm in the store, I'll look it up.

I have to go out and buy some oxiliac acid before I can throw those old pipes and the
brake line stand-off into it... I do aim to do it... I can't believe those pipes would clean
up, but I wouldn't have believed any of that other stuff would clean up either...

I didn't take any before pics. And I've run out of real rusty stuff to clean. But I can say it doesn't take near as long as the bike guy says. I guess it depends on the strength of the mixture. i gae it about 1-2 hours and it was clean.

Question on the Oxalic Acid...

I've used Naval Jelly to remove rust, but in this darned humidity down here, seems it's back in short order, even when waxed. Does the OA do any better? It does sound easier.

My brother-in-law uses liquid parafin wax, to coat his chrome, even portions of the exhaust. I think it would attract and hold dust/dirt, but he washes his bike after every ride. Me, I just get on the bike and ride the next day, he might only ride once a week.

I had to remove a pair of bearings from a 6" industrial shaft a few years ago. The bearing mount and cap bolts were all torqued to 600 flbs when they were installed. It was a high humidly area and I could not break the bolts loose. I broke a 1000flb torque multiplier trying to get them loose. I wound up drilling 3/16" holes in the bearing housing to give me access to the bolt shafts. Then I stuck the kroil nozzle into the holes and soaked them. 24 hours later all 6 bolts came loose. The kroil had even wicked up the bolts shafts 3" to the bolt heads.

I still use wd40 in many places but for tough jobs, I always use kroil now.
