Thinking about putting this in my yard for my gun hating next door neighbor..Should I or Shouldn't I (unofficial poll here)!!  ;)

I say yes... but my neighbors let me shoot in THEIR yard, as mine isn't big enough.  So... I'll use my guns to protect them.

I live rural where there is NO CRIME. I left for the weekend and accidentally left the garage door open.Tools Shadow.safe, 27 Bugatti kit car, 4 mechanics tool boxes full. All undisturbed.
I lit off a shotgun about 10pm and the only rise I got was the neighbor asking if I could do the smithin I was working on his. My neighbors have better stuff than I do.
UUUUH,,, I mean if I had any to begin with.
Aot of guys with burn marks, gnarly scars and funny twitches ask why I spend so much on safety gear

my neighbor has a flagpole in his front yard flying old glory, you know what that means  ;)

Your neighbour probably has an idea what kind of valuable stuff you have in your house and/or garage.  He could also probably figure out the comings and goings of everyone in your household, then post all this information on a sign in HIS yard.  Freedom of expression and conscience only matters when someone agrees with me.

Pretty much, yeah.

People have their opinions and they're entitled to them by the same document that provides you with your right to keep and bear arms. Posting a sign like that is childish.

Speaking of flag-flyers, nothing pisses me off like all of the jerkoffs who fly the American flag and leave it out in the rain and snow or out after sunset without illumination and allow it to become tattered and torn. I suspect these people fancy themselves as patriots. They're not.

Now, Now, Now..... See the wink at the end of my post? Just a little humor boys... No one is being childish or actually going to post anything in their yard... My neighbor is a great guy who just thinks all guns should be banned from the earth... BTW, sent this to him too...He saw the humor

Living in Australia it is difficult to understand the USA gun laws.
In Oz it is illegal to even own a kids air rifle or a replica pistol.
I dont know anyone who has a licence to own a rifle.

That's the most surprising thing I've heard recently. I would have thought that there was at least one firearm in every Australian household.

I am suprised at the response to my post re gun control in Australia.
A simple explanation of gun ownership in Australia is given in Wikipedia.

"State laws govern the possession and use of firearms in Australia. These laws were largely aligned under the 1996 National Agreement on Firearms. Anyone wishing to possess or use a firearm must have a Firearms Licence and, with some exceptions, be over the age of 18. Owners must have secure storage for their firearms.

Before someone can buy a firearm, he or she must obtain a Permit To Acquire. The first permit has a mandatory 28-day delay before it is first issued. In some states (e.g. Queensland, Victoria, and New South Wales), this is waived for second and subsequent firearms of the same class. For each firearm a "Genuine Reason" must be given, relating to pest control, hunting, target shooting, or collecting. Self-defense is not accepted as a reason for issuing a licence, even though it may be legal under certain circumstances to use a legally held firearm for self-defense.[2]"

The law was passed while John Howard was Prime Minister, and anyone with a gun had to surrender it. That included even farmers who had to apply for a permit.
Makes for a relatively peaceful country with minimum violence against fellow Aussies.
We would all rather go to the footy, the beach for a surf, or watch the cricket.

Did anyone catch the anti gun fluff that the Today show did a couple of days ago??  Being as NBC is in Barrys pocket, I wonder if this was done to deflect public opinion form fast and furious.  They did everything they could to make legal gun sales  look like a covert sting operation of illegal activity.   I think the purpose was for the same reason as fast and furious, setting the stage for a second amendment go around.   Its obvious that POTUS doesnt respect the constitution, else he would not be meddling in basic religious beliefs, Ie the Catholic Church and birth control and abortion.  He believes, like a dictator, by executive order he can do whatever he desires, no matter what the Constitution says.   If he gets another term and appoints a couple more ultraliberal supremes, it will be all over for life as we know it.

Are you guys serious.  Just because a country has strict gun laws you would not go there.  Are you so scared of the world that you would miss out on the wonders of the world because you would not feel safe without your gun......I feel very sorry for you guys.  Seriously....you need help.  I have been all over the eastern part of the States, Caribbean and Europe and I have never felt like I needed a gun to feel safe.  Just used common sense.

I seemed to have stirred up a few with my comments on gun control.
I am 73 and a active rider with 3 bikes in the garage.
My philosophy in live goes well with the club I am in.
The " Ulysses " club for over 50's was founded in Australia in 1983 and now has 27,000 active members. Established overseas and starting up in the USA with membership number 60,000 just issued. The AGM each year attracts up to 5,000 campers and there may be a need to travel over a week to get there.
http://www.ulyssesclub.org/AboutUs/tabid/73/Default.aspx
The moto " Grow old disgracefully " suites me just right.
Any person is accepted riding any brand of bike.
We are just a mob of old farts enjoying life without having to look over our shoulder.
Life seems to be much simpler in Oz.

It's not fear of being injured by a criminal that bothers me. Although I have to admit, I'd be so cursed embarrassed if I got robbed it would be hard to even call the cops. It's more a sense of responsibility, I know how to use firearms just as I know how to use most other tools. I'm not yet of the age where I would consider myself a likely target for criminals but what if I found myself in the situation of being able to help someone who was being victimized? What if I couldn't help them because I had been too lazy to carry that day?

And, I have to admit, my wife and I found ourselves at a mini-mart in a questionable area too close to DC several years ago. We were on the scooter, drawing a lot of attention to ourselves just by being there and I worried about my ability to protect her since I wasn't carrying. I know it may seem old fashioned or "quaint" for some of you but I consider keeping her and my other loved ones safe to be one of my responsibilities.

The other reason I try not to travel to or through my neighboring state of Illinois or other such places is that I don't want to pay taxes in or in any way financially support any government that doesn't respect it's citizens right to own and operate the means of self-defense.

Maybe there are places where the citizens truly can't be trusted to own firearms but it's impossible for me to imagine such a thing.

Switzerland has an extremely low crime rate as well as being known as a country without poverty.
Yet every citizen is required to take a firearm test and training on a yearly basis.

Does poverty cause crime, or does an armed society reduce crime? Think about it!

Dont care about their laws. I care about protecting me and those around me. Why should I rely on someone else protecting me? I'm a big boy I should be able to provide for my own safety. Cops are not here to protect us as individuals.

Common sense? I am not able to predict when crime against me will happen. Some say stay out of bad areas? How the F am I suppose to know what area is bad when I am not from there? Crime happens in upscale areas to. Ask the family of the 5 that was shot in a Lane Bryant outside of Chicago. Ask the families of kids that were shot in school. Gun contol laws only help the criminal not the law abiding citizen. Schools are 'gunfree zones'. Well thats not working out for them much.

You can do far more with a loaded gun than kill someone. You can have family gatherings which involve the shooting sports as we do. You can have a deer camp for 25 years where your kids can learn to be adults, can learn to shoot and can learn that meat shouldn't always come from the store.

When I was little my Mom's family had a reunion at an old cabin with no running water every year. There was a family shooting trophy which was up for grabs every year too. Everyone who shot had to stand on their back legs and shoot at the target without a rest with a .22 rim-fire rifle. Young, old, kids and adults all got their turn. If you were strong enough to hold up the rifle safely, you got to shoot. If you didn't have a rifle one was provided. The best shot took the trophy home and brought it back the next year so it was up for grabs again. There was no anger, no drama, no bad sportsmanship. It was just fun, it was just teaching kids how to have wholesome fun. No one from those reunions ever went to jail, ever committed a serious crime, or turned out to be anything but good parents and good citizens to my knowledge.

That's what I think of when I think of firearms, good people and good times.

By the way, my Mom took that trophy home more times than not. :cooldude:

No one from those reunions ever went to jail, ever committed a serious crime, or turned out to be anything but good parents and good citizens to my knowledge.

That's what I think of when I think of firearms, good people and good times.

By the way, my Mom took that trophy home more times than not. :cooldude:

+1  :cooldude:    I learned a LOT about patience and self control, safety, responsibility, and sportsmanship with loaded guns!   ;)

+1.  :cooldude: Hey Anvil, don't be so surprised! I actually do agree with a lot of stuff you say and post. And sometimes, about some other things, NOT. This time, TOTALLY!!!!  :coolsmiley:

No more comments from me on gun control.
I have stirred enough.
Why would you want to kill someone ( guilty or innocent ).
That's all you can do with a loaded gun.
I am sorry, I just dont understand.
Surely something just ain't right.
