Torn Retina!

Last week I managed to tear the retina in my left eye.  Yesterday laser surgery repaired the tear.  Now I have floating blood particles in my eye that really causes vision problems.  I'm told the eye will clear this problem with time.  Until then, no riding.  At least it wasn't a detached retina which would have been major surgery.

Eooowwww!  Eye injuries are painful,  glad they could fix it up.  Hopefully this won't lead to a stigmatism but, having two is always better than one.  Get well soon.

Seriously, my wife developed a hole in her retina, apparently from a face plant she took in a mall. The procedure for that was to drain the fluid from the eye and do some laser stuff. The fluid had already penetrated behind the retina and damaged nerves in the area so she now has a blank spot in her vision. Following surgery, she had to spend two weeks face down to allow healing. That was as hard on me as her, constant attendance required. I arranged two large mirrors so she could watch TV and have everything in proper perspective. Eating was a real trial but we made a game out of it....sorta. Swallowing and drinking "uphill" was an experience. Following the healing, a cataract developed so that was removed a few months later. The other eye helps make up the difference in vision, but it still bugs her from time to time, been nearly ten years now.

I have a genetic condition with my eyes that caused both my retinas to detach at the same time.  I had surgery on both and now live with the possibility that at any time they may detach again, for any or no reason.  Take care of your vision and have it checked regularly!  Mine was found in a routine checkup and I had no symptoms at that time that I had detachments.

Jeeez, I hope youre back on two soon.
A friend of mine was at a water park and they let a kid go down the slide too soon. He caught a foot to the side-o-his head and voila, instant detached retina. Ended his CDL carreer right there.

Ouch! Rest up and listen to the MD's. I had a detached retina three years ago and it was not pleasant at all. Mine could have been related to earlier cataract surgery.

Cowboy is Carman Allen's handle. He's the one with the leather work talent....lives in Ft. Worth, TX. I did some major repair on one of his bikes 3-4 yrs. ago and that's how he paid me.  I got the better deal I'm thinking. Had his bike in my garage for most of four months.

I don't know how old you are, but age is a factor in retinal tears.  I had a torn retina 1 month after giving up the Valk at age 65.  Based on my experience, the "floaters" you have will never completely leave.  Those who have had retinal detachments have a much-more serious condition.  Just follow the medical advice you've been given.  I hope you heal quickly and completely and are able to ride safely for many more years.

Thanks for all the well wishes and concerns!  I'm 65 years old and am really fustrated that I can't see very good out of my left eye right now.  the good thing is I have some great doctors taking care of me and the retina has been repaired!  Now to be patient until I can see well enough to ride again!

I'm looking forward to it Crazyhorse!  I just hope this eye is working good enough to let me ride!  Right now I have no depth perception and very little vision to my left.  I'm left eye dominant too which complicates things.  I haven't ridden in over a week now and it is wearing thin!

My wife had that happen out of the blue a few years ago.  Had laser surgery and has been fine since.
