Anti theft technique

What do you do to insure that no perp steals your ride? For me: He would have to cut the lock on my drive through gate, come into my backyard, hope my 100 lb dog does not hear anything and come through the dog door to investigate. Then, cut the lock to my storage shed. But, while standing there the motion sensor lights would all come on. After the lock is cut on the storage shed, then he would have to deal with the locked forks. This all assumes I am unaware of anything going on. Then worse things could happen.

I live way out in the country on about 160 acres. i can see anyone coming close to our house from a good way off.
In my case the perp. would need to get through a hail of semiautomatic weapon fire to get anything we own.

i live in the city most times i remember to take the key out of the ignition, not always. that's about it.

Insurance...I've never worried about any bike, or car for that matter, being stolen.  If they want it, they can have it.  I just hope they take it rather than vandalize it.  Now that would piss me off.

The bike is in the garage about 10 feet from where I sleep.  After 10 years working on an ambulance as an EMT, I'm a VERY light sleeper as is my wife.  Not to mention two dogs, my 12 Gauge and her .44 Mag.  Oh yeah, got a padlock on the garage too!

I sleep like 10 12 feet from my garage and the door opener is on my dresser and the door squeaks a LOT-for a raeson. My forks are locked also. But first and foremost they have to get by my trained killer attack chicken. RIDE SAFE.

Due to accident damage and the car having to be in the garage while I do the bodywork, the bike has been in the driveway under a cover at night and before I head out for the day, but if anyone can that that beast out from under the watchful ears of the 2 dogs, that's why it's insured.

For the next 5 days, the temps here would fluctuate between 80-92 degrees-F / 20-35% humidity.
So, she is seating on my driveway-outside my elevated window. Taking on the Sun and the breeze. 
Normally, she rests on her pedestal inside our dry enclosed garage.
But for these few days, she is where I can just hop on her and "go to get milk for the 216-month granddaughter."
Luckily, not many vehicle thefts are reported in this neighborhood (until tonight!)
However, home burglaries abound. Oh yes, I lock her forks and use a hefty "New York Something" disk-brake lock.
I always keep my water gun loaded right next to my rubberized cane, beneath the Oxigen tanks!

My valks are in my unlocked garage, with the keys in both.  All my vehicles have the keys in them. I have never locked my house. In fact, I do not even know where the keys are.

Someone's GPS got stolen during the night at a ride I went to last year... motels and
other unsafe places where we have to leave our bikes when on the road might be
the biggest risk for a lot of us...

The double french doors have double locks, there are motion sensors on the lights just outside and our little yappy dogs will wake the dead if them lights turn on.  I could be in the family room with a shotgun and a .357 in about 30 seconds.  Im not too worried

Exactly its while on the road is where you have to tighten up....If I am staying at a hotel, I talk to the manager, they usually let me park under a roof on a walkway somewhere that once the bike is set and forks locked its gonna be real hard to get it out of there....the other option is to park where I can see the bike from the room and like was said.....keep one eye open

Nothing. It sets in the garage under cover with the key in it.

I rarely take the key out. I do parked over night tho. If its in the parking lot for a few hours, no. I have the 'fob' type. At Sturgis or other rallies I stick the key in the center cover. At work it stays in the saddle bag lock. I carry a spare on the bike so a easy look they can find it.
I dont lock my bags either, unless there is a gun or 2 in there.

I don't believe I've heard of  more than two Valkyries being stolen in the past eight years.  As others have mentioned, I have insurance to recoup my losses if it happens to me.

that reminds me of a funny story, I was heading to Inzane in '04 and I stopped for the night in little tiny snowville Ut. it was a small mom and pop place I trundled off to bed about 9ish and was rudely awakened at 11 by the sound of a valk pulling up to the room next door. I was confused because it sounded like a reverse theft, or some one was dropping off my bike after riding it for a while?

Damn, 1 of the few times I agree with the Gunny.    Key is never taken out of the bike unless traveling.   NEVER ever use the fork lock. they are about as worthless as you know what on a boar.

Straddle the bike, stand her up, grab the bars and do a quick snap and the fork lock is broke.     Don't bother asking how I know this.

We used to take the keys out of everything, until we had our garage fire.    Had we of had keys in the 3 vehicles we lost, they could of all been saved.   So, that is what I pay for insurance for.      I'd rather have one stolen, then to stand in the driveway, and watch a couple of your pride and joy melt to the ground, and there is not a damn thing you can do, cause NO firkin key in the vehicle.

Shooter, you do realize you just gave away what needs to be done to break into and steal your stuff?  Some of you also mentioned that you never locked doors ever, etc. since never will happen in the middle of nowhere.  Personally, I wouldn't be posting this info. on any website since there are weirdo's lurking everywhere just looking for an easy opportunity.  Just saying....
