IS THERE A LINKAGE EXTENSION FOR THE SHFTER, OR CAN IT BE JUST ADJUSTED TO A LOWER POSITION SO MY BOOTS CAN FIT IN  BETWEEN THE CYCLINDER HEAD AND THE SHIFTER? HAVING A HARD TIME EVERYTIME I WEAR BOOTS, I HAVE TO GO WITH SKINNY FRONT SHOES THAT ARE NOT SAFE. ..ANY SUGGESTION IS APPRECIATED. THANK YOU

I changed out my shifter for a shifter from a 1999 Honda Blackbird XXX CBR 1000.  It is slim and 1& 1/2" longer and you can pick it up on ebay for about $22 delivered.  Works fine with my size 13 boots.  Good luck and ride safe.

Get a set of peg lowering adapters.  That will lower your foot in relation to the shifter.

The shifter is splined, simply remove the pinch bolt and reposition the shifter to the desired height and replace the pinch bolt....................your good to go !!!

I have size 14 EW feet, and I have no problem with the shifter, even with steel toe boots. Just remove the pinch bolt on the shifter, and move it to where you want it. I have no mods to my footpegs or the shifter.

I did the same thing.......found a used one on the bay........don't know what Honda was thinking with that stock shifter.

Here is my home made peg lowering adapter. Adjusting the shifter downwards gives more room between the shifter and the valve cover.

I did the same as Brian but went even lower.
I ride 98% in a straight line.
Also I have Cobra floor boards.
In a mild curve I have maybe 2 inches of clearence some times less.
So if you do make a set of lowering brackets and its real easy to do from some flat steel.
Dont go as low as I have.......not very good for riding twisties Im sure.

This might be a silly idea, but has anyone changed the brackets from side to side to move the pegs forward? I'm thinking forward 2" and down 1" might just un-cramp the position for longer rides...

I made them 1 1/4" Down and 1 1/4" forward. I also chrome plated them.

The first adapter I made I drilled many holes so I could experiment with the placement, even down and foward. The rightside was a lot tougher due to the brake likes and the heat shield for the brake switch hit the exhaust header. I even tried tipping the footpeg mount down in the front to angle the footpeg downward. Doing all this I ended up making this final adapter. I believe I still have this first adapter showing the placement of all holes. If you are interested to see it I will snap off a photo to post it here.

Moving it further down and or forward created issues with the sidestand foot tang interferring. It also drags earlier. I also had issues adjusting the angle of the shifter to be comfortable without having to order a shorter one. The rightside has been left stock. One of the VRCC vendors that support this site sells these already made. I believe he is asking $125 painted black. He includes adapters for both sides.

Chet used to make and sell them on his Rattlebars web site but I believe he has retired from that. You might find them for sale in the classifieds section or Ebay but you don't see them for sale very often.
Maybe someone who has a set can send you some measurements to make a set from steel flat stock.
You could paint them black (the right one is already black as I recall) or have them chromed.

The button underneath the B when you are posting a reply is the "Insert Image" button.  You have to have your photos stored online, someplace like Photobucket works well, then paste the link to the picture between the [ img] and the [ /img ] and then press the "Preview" button to see if your pic shows up.  If it does, then press the "Post" button.  If it doesn't, look at the img code and make sure there aren't any spaces or extra characters mixed up in there.

The shifter is easily rotated by taking out that bolt and reinstalling. I've done that to numerous bikes in my life. I actually installed forward controls that link to the shifter and had to raise the pitch to get them into my desired position. They are heel-toe type. Great fit. A little pricey but still nice for placement on a long trip. I'm 5'6" tall and they work perfectly for me on my IS.

In the post reply section on the second line of icons you will see what looks like a framed picture, you click on that icon. It will give you two img in quotations with the cursor blinking in between them. This is where you attach you picture from say the photostash here on this site. You will find this photostash link on this page by scrolling down and looking in the heading section in small print, it is right next the word Homepage. It took me a lot trys to make it work and to figure out how to move photos not too mention you will need to resize them. The General section on the homepage has a link to this very subject. This will send you in the general direction to see what works for you. Try searching here too. Good luck.

This is what I did after installing Kuryakyn iso-swept wing pegs for the driver. The iso sweeptwings moved my feet forward so it was difficult to shift.  When I rode with boots on,  my big fat # 13's could barely fit between the iso peg and the shifter. 

This has been a very comfortable solution.  And, oh yeah, more chrome just can't hurt!  I'm thinking it makes them safer.
