Anyone ever use soft saddlebags on their Valk?

I know I need to use hard bags, but right at this moment I can't afford a set of hard bags. And, I

would really like to have a set of saddlebags on my bike to carry my stuff back and forth to work.

I'm looking at the FirstGear Onyx bags at MotorCycleGear. Has anyone used these bags? I have a set

of Nelson-Rigg CL-850's on my KLR that I really like too. Any suggestions on what works and what

doesn't on the Valkyrie. In the meantime, I'll try to keep saving for a set of hard bags.

I would suggest a set of oem Valkyrie leather bags. The bag supports are great, the look is right. Try to buy some from someone upgrading to hard bags. Use them till your ship come in, and you can recoup all or most of your money back when you upgrade.

I used Rev Pack soft luggage for many years on my Valk before finally getting a pair of Boss Bags. The Rev Packs work well, hold a lot of weight, & are waterproof without a raincover. Since I bought mine, they now have a larger "Expedition" model. Plus, they are made in California.

I am still using the same bags on my V-Strom.

My 98 Valk came with the OEM leater bags. Those bags were misshapen and leaked. I hated wet and mildewy gloves and bandanas.

I found some ammo boxes at the Army surplus store for $8.00 a piece. They are strong, waterproof, unique. And did I mention cheap?

I have the OEM leather bags on mine. A friend has the hard bags on his so here's a shot to let you compare the looks.

I have a set of Ortlieb throwover soft bags from Aerostitch (http://www.aerostich.com/bags/seat-bags-and-tail-bags/saddlebags/ortlieb-dry-bag-saddlebags.html) in a solid black color.  They are very functional and easy to use.  I can easily throw them over the seat or mount them underneath.  They are built like Ortlieb's river dry bags if you are familiar with them... completely waterproof.  They might not be the most stylish but the function can't be beat.  They're also just about bottomless

Thanks all. So there is hope for saddlebags on my bike.  Momz, gotta love those ammo cans!  Those would look right at home on my KLR!   I'll keep my eyes on the classifieds for a set of OEM leather bags also.

If done as they do on the KLR's they just drill a hole where needed to mount to brackets ( I assume he used his oem brackets) and they use the 40mm ammo cans.

Sorry, if I had looked closer at the last pic, I could've read the 40mm part. :uglystupid2:

I used the OEM leather saddlebag mounts. All I had to buy were eight SS screws and eight spacers.
