And as far as a real answer, not that I think I'll be able to make it for financial reasons, but mountains are good, lower temps, funner roads...

Northern New Mexico, Most of Colorado, parts of Utah, etc...

Oz, get the November issue of Rider magazine. Page 36 starts an article named "Scouting The Cumberland Highlands" and describes a Harley rally the writer attended in Cookeville, TN. They accomodated roughly 2600 attendees so it stands to reason our group could fit in. Lots of good riding, places to see, things to do.....take a look at it. If you can't find a copy of that issue let me know and I'll send mine to you.

After reviewing where other Inzanes have been held, NM, UT, MT would be good choices.

Why does it have to be in July when almost the entire country is HOT?   What is wrong with May, June, September or October these are the best riding months, plus lower motel rates. Hell, Joe can even get a group to ride in West Virginia in February. I have heard it said that people have kids in school, from the VRCC events I have attended, I don't think many of us have kids in school, maybe grandkids. JMHO.

It's now so much where as when to me. My bud Matt at work always goes to the ABATE Boogie here in Indiana. We can't both be on vacation at once and he gives me the best hunting season vacation dates so he always gets the Boogie. Sometimes Inzane and the boogie conflict and sometimes they don't. It just depends on the year.

I have never been to InZane. I have considered going, but just to far in the heat of the summer. So a location thats cooler, great motorcycling roads, other local sites, close enough to Valk riders who would attend. I would move the event around, east, west, south, north.
If I had a vote it would be PA. Second choice would be the mountains of VA, WV, NC, TN.

High in the Rockies? Durango, Ouray, etc.? Seattle? Olympia? San Francisco area?

If the San Juans of Colorado gets the nod, Montrose has been proven to be the best town for hosting a rally, for logistics:  Lots of reasonable priced lodging, great central location to some of the best riding in the Rockies.  The HCC has based their annual ride-in there for years, and the VOA there I think twice.
Just a ton of riding - Of course the Million-Dollar Highway (in the AMA's Top Ten), The Black Canyon of the Gunnison, The Unaweep Byway (below) with the Discovery Channel's Resort and Auto Museum at Gateway http://www.gatewaycanyons.com/gateway-auto-museum.aspx , The spectacular ride over to Telluride and on through the mountains along the Dolores River to Mancos and on to Durango - and the spectacular Durango-Silverton steam train.  The Upper Rio Grande valley with Lake City and Creede.  The Indian Ruins with the famous Cliff House at Mesa Verde.  Four Corners.  Monument Valley.  Grande Mesa.  Colorado National Monument.  Aspen and Independence Pass.  Not to mention the clothing-optional Orvis Hot Springs at Ridgeway, a half hour S of Montrose: http://www.orvishotsprings.com/  Or the excellent chicken-fried steak at Ridgeway's True Grit cafe - where part of the John Wayne movie was filmed.

Then there's also the Eastern Utah National Parks - Arches, Canyonlands, Glen Canyon, and the NE end of Lake Powell.
All the above are day rides from Montrose - though the Utah ones are long day rides except Arches.

Not that I'm partial to locating here - I'd like to see some new areas, but I don't think they are candidates for InZane (I'm thinking of Idaho and the NW for my road trips).  If you're thinking of Colorado - It's hard to beat Montrose.  And the Denver / Front Range area - not a good choice as a ride-in destination.  I know ALL of the paved roads on the Front Range - and there are excellent rides in the foothills.  But this is a large metro area - with around 6 million people - not so good for enjoying roads without traffic.

Here's Wingnutzz' short video of riding the Unaweep-Tabeguache Byway, begins about a half hour NW of Montrose:

Lets go back to shanty creek. Hell I just bought a room there. Small room but I like it cause it was cheap. Really my son bought it I'm just paying for it so we can ski togather. Except I don't ski and don't walk all that good eather. We might as well ride from there. I got room for 3 well really 1 unless 2 are girls with low standards.

Obviously, it is always going to be a problem to travel to any location depending on where one is versus where the event is held.  Most folks don't have the time to travel multiple days to spend a week (+or -) and then spend mulitple days getting home.  Additionally, the economy sucks so any trip like this is going to be effected by the cost also restricting the number of folks that can attend.

My personal opinion is that there should be regional gatherings hosted by folks who can spend the time setting it up.  Obviously, such events would also effect attendance at a national event.  For most of us, there's only so much time and money to go to events like this and regional events would definately use up those resources.  Honestly, I don't care where it's held although I'd be happy to politic for Kentucky.  Not because I want to keep it close to home but because there are thousands of great roads to ride here and I've not ridden them all.

As I said, I really don't care where it's held, if time and money permits, I'll be there.  But, the time of year is more important to me.  I'll ride just about any time of year but, I don't enjoy it nearly as much in heat and humid enviroments.  I really enjoyed Eureka Springs in 2012 but, I didn't go on a single group ride.  It was just too damn hot for me to enjoy it in a group setting.  Morning and evening riding was good for me but, other activities were planned for those time frames.

Doesn't matter where or when, you can't please everyone.  Personally, I'd select 5 or 6 locations, get volunteers to set up a provided general agenda and go from there.  Spread those locations and events over the Spring, Summer and Fall time frames and let folks attend the ones they choose to go to.  Depending on the time of year, I'd love to ride parts of CO, AZ, TX, ND, SD, WI, NY, PA, TN, SC, NC and of course, KY.  There are places I wouldn't go regardless of the time of year for my own reasons, outstanding warrants are not the reasons.  ;)

I'd highly recommend Townsend, Tennessee! They call it "The Peaceful Side of the Smokies". It reminds me of what Pigeon Forge looked like about 50 years ago before it turned into a tourist trap. Quiet and  family friendly, with plenty of accommodations along US321. It is an 18 mile ride to Gatlinburg, or Pigeon Forge, or the Dragon's Tail, The Cherohala Skyway is also a stones throw away. There are a few motels with enough space for the whole group.
Damn thing gives me the grins every time I get on it!

just do it in say rockwall, texas.......that's pretty much in the center where no one  on the ends has any more miles to ride than the other.  plus there's lots to do in texas.

I regret NOT going to the ones in Frisco Co.  I'll be going west next summer one way or the other.

I agree.  Central and northern California or southern Oregon.  You could ride the pacific coast highway or hit any number of great towns like Chico or Eureka.

Precisely why I suggested Regional Events.  Some folks could do a CA or OR event, I couldn't.  Don't expect the vast majority of West Coast folks to make it to an event on the East Coast either.  Distances are too great for those with limited time/money.  That's why the National Event is normally held in the Central US (in my opinion).

Also, my opinion is that Regional Events held during the milder weather for the location would draw more folks from that region that would never consider going to a National Event due to time, distance and money constraints.  During hot weather, northern states would be a better choice in most cases but obviously, that changes with the weather patterns.  Southern States woud get earlier Spring and/or later Fall Events.

The attendance would most likely not be as large at any singular event but, I'll bet the whole would be greater than the singular National Event and presumably the weather (temps) would be more predictable.  Actually, I'm probably wrong about that.  We all knew Eureka Spring was predictably hot and it lived up to all predictions.  Don't get me wrong, if it's held there in 2013, I'll do my best to be there.  Just my opinion, it isn't worth much but, it's all mine.   :)

+1 on Regional events.  I can't take the time to ride back to the East Coast, but would certainly enjoy getting together with other Valkyrie riders.  Maybe a Central California event, one mid country and one on the East Coast would encourage (and allow) more Valk riders to attend.
