My best friend from HS, who lives in Franklin, NC, just showed me some roads less traveled all around Franklin, Highlands, Cashiers, and etc........I'm going to try to make a route out of them and save them to my GPS.........you want to try them out with me Hubcapsc??.........

project to get Carolyn ready for a Horse riding trip the weekend of Nov. 3rd. this
weekend -Saturday should getRdone... I'll start tonight (Friday), might open up
Saturday for me... I'd do Sunday, it will be windy and colder on Sunday though...

Yes......I've been on Germany road, but it was MANNNNNY years ago.......there's a road(gravel) that goes over the mountain and through the woods from the North end of Rabun to Persimmon which is just about to hwy 76 west towards Hiawassee

The roads I'm trying to route up around Franklin should be paved.......

I have tomorrow to myself since Abby is going to a bead show with some of her friends.....

showing it to be paved (at least some of the way)...

281 up above Cashiers wasn't paved when I first got the Valkyrie, but
it is an awesome road now...

When do you want to try this ride?

Maybe Saturday? Maybe Sunday? I have to do some chores for Carolyn, which
might knock me out of Saturday, but I'll know more when I see how much I
get done this evening... when is good for you?

Carolyn will be gone on a horse trip next weekend (Nov. 3 and 4), I have to be home in the
mornings and evenings to feed the menagerie, but I would be able to be
gone all day...

I have been on Hwy 281........and yes, Walnut Mtn road is one I have uploaded.......but also Norton road.......yellow Mtn road.....and horse cove road......and a couple of others......

Saturday would be my best bet Mike.....got some chores of my own on Sunday.....

I also added a Germany Mountain loop to the GPS......comes out on Persimmon road eventually.....We could probably work in a lunch meal at the Mexican place in Clayton?

I just got off the phone with Stanley. We're going to meet in Seneca at 9:00am in the morning
(Saturday, 10/27), and then we're going to head up to Highlands. Google sez it will take one hour
and five minutes to get to Highlands, so we should be at Highlands between 10 and 10:30.

If you (or anyone else) wants to come, we can meet up in Highlands near to where 28 and 64 become the same road. Right
there is a pig trail named "Horse Cove Road"... We're going to snoop around back in there a bit, Horse Cove,
Whiteside Cove, whatever...

Then we're going to north of 64, near Cashiers and Lake Glenville, and make a loop out of
Pine Creek Road/Walnut Creek Road/64/Ellijay Road/Tilley Creek Road/Cullowheeeee Mountain Road...

After looking at Google Earth maps pretty closely, it looks like Horse Cove Road that turns into Bull Pen Road is paved.....at least on the end where it intersects Hwy 107.....Looks like a humdinger of a road!!.....

Sure wish I could go I'm dealing with a septic system packed full of tree roots and other " stuff "    I'm guessing this weekend and next I'll be dealing with new lines to the tank and cutting a big ass tree down that's not only near the house but powerlines as well

Sure wish I could go I'm dealing with a septic system packed full of tree roots and other " stuff "    I'm guessing this weekend and next I'll be dealing with new lines to the tank and cutting a big ass tree down that's not only near the house but powerlines as well 

Well, if we had a "chore" contest this weekend, it sounds like you'd win 

I had to clean the old goo off the rails of our truck cap so that we could put new
vinyl (we used that vinyl stuff that people use for baseboard in industrial/commercial buildings)
on there in time for Carolyn to use the cap next weekend... I worked on the old goo
with sandpaper for a bit yesterday afternoon, and then tried white camping gas... the goo disintegrated,
made the rails as clean as when we prepped them the first time, and we
slapped on the new vinyl with some mounting tape from the auto parts store, I was
done by 6:00 yesterday afternoon.

Wish you could be there too, Joe... might not be many warm days left until next spring...
