Cleaning melted stuff off of exhaust

Last year I added a Saddleman tunnel bag on the bike.   I use the passenger foot pegs to anchor the front straps.
The excess strap unwound and fell on the muffler and melted. I got a lot of it off but I'm afraid of damaging the chrome if I use anything too abrasive.  Maybe some acetone ? Any other ideas?

I know  the simple solution is to prevent the problem by cutting the strap shorter but I need the extra to pull the strap tight.
THANKS

Use Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish. It wil not damage the chrome and it will take the melted goo off eventually. Be patient.

I have excellent results with #0000 steel wool and lacquer thinner. Just make sure the exhaust pipes have cooled  sufficiently before you start cleaning .

Hands down (for me) take a brand new razor blade/utility knife blade stand it straight up and use side to side motion with only  as much pressure as needed. After the melted junk is gone use neverdull wadding compound.Works great.

Thanks, I have Mothers polish but I never used magic eraser.
I tried paint thinner and chrome polish with one of those green scrub pads with limited success.

I use a THICK cotton towel and car wax on a HOT exhaust.  It works GREAT.  Fold the towel up many times to protect yourself from the steam generated from rubbing the wet wax on a HOT exhaust.  I think it has something to do with having the goo soft, then cooling it off quickly and causing thermal shock.

There will be no damage to the chrome.

This method works for me too....I use the Nevr Dull wadding on hot pipes with gloves and a thick towel to protect against burns.  You'll generate lots of vapor so make sure you don't get a face full.
