Please no Union bashing .  I'm proud of mine.  Teamsters Local #142  Gary Indiana. 2 Years as an Industrial Firefighter, and now 4 as a Garbage man.

tried three times to join the local 14 IBEW.  

i was a member of the Teamsters in Franklin Prk, Ill. for about 6 months!!  worked for UPS while unloading trailers.  had i known then what i know know, i would have quit school and stayed with UPS!!

I guess Im just screwed.  I have no union, I have no supervisor to complain to when the boss makes me work through lunch every stinkin day.  I also have no other employees to pass the crappy jobs to and I have no one to fill in for me when I want to call out sick. 

Wait a minute.....those were all the people I couldnt stand, they arent allowed at work now.....its just me, Im the supervisor and the boss, and also the foreman......and yes I yell at myself sometimes......YOU WILL GET THAT DONE TODAY!.........and the janitor and the scheduler and the secretary (no Oss I wont audition) But, no union here. 

However I can go on strike without fear of reprisal anytime I feel the need to go riding

Since I semi retired from the AF every day is a saturday (except Sunday of course) the bad news is....I work saturdays.  LOL

hey Alf!! i dont know what the problem is with joining the IBEW,, they are begging for members down here,,walk in and them you want to be a union member,, they give you a third grade test that even my helper passed and you give them 27 dollars for the first months dues and sign the book,,,,now you have to wait 2 years to get even a short call....and you better not get caught working off the books,,,

Never been a union member but never worked for a union shop. My brother in law is a long time member of the UAW in Bowling Green KY. They make the Corvette there and I had a personal tour of the plant including a test ride. They work there ass off there and build a car better than anyone in the world. No one gets away with running down the UAW around me. Hard working bunch!

UAW Local 600. The Rouge Plant in Dearborn MI, where it all began. I am a 4th generation employee. My great grandfather worked here when HF paid $5 a day. The highest in the industry at the time.

This is only the East side of the plant. Right in the middle of the picture you will see a pedestrian bridge that crosses over Miller Rd at gate 4. This is the where the street fighting began and the blood was shed between the labor forces and the Ford security forces that eventually got the union into the plant. Very little of the original structures are left. But there are miles and miles of underground tunnels at the plant that use to carry HF to the different buildings. Many of them now contain utilities, some are abandoned. Makes for great exploration and reflection of the things that use to happen here.
