Isn't it amazing that with only 4 days left in the year, Obama and Congress are all on vacation!  That's all they talk about is raising the tax on people making over 250,000 dollars. Democrats want it and Republicans don't. Meanwhile the president takes the plane to Hawaii. He must really be worried! How about talking about cutting spending? There is a new idea! I hope we do go off the cliff, and then maybe people will start to the vote the idiots out!

my sentiments exactly!!  going over the cliff is probably a good thing for this country.  you'll finally get the democrats to cut spending, although it won't be from choice, it'll be because they'd have no choice!!  now, as for the taxes going up, get over it, they were going to go up anyway.  you CAN'T spend trillions of dollars a year more than you take in without taxes going up.  So, taxes go up, obummer wins, spending gets cut, republicans win.  It's a no brainer.

You DON'T want to go over the cliff.  It won't be a good thing and it is EXACTLY what Obama and the Democrats want.

For Obama and the Democrats, it's not about cutting spending.  It is not about reducing entitlements.  It's not about reducing the debt.

In fact, Obama and Reid want to increase spending, increase entitlements, have an unlimited debt ceiling.

They want those things, but above all else, they want to utterly destroy Boehner and the Republicans.

This IS about revenge.  This IS about retribution.  This IS about humiliating the Republicans.  This IS about destroying the Republicans and most important....this IS about blaiming the Republicans.

Listen carefully the next time you hear a Democrat, or a talking head from the Democrats on TV.  What you'll hear is them saying something about House Leader Boehner lacking leadership, not showing leadership, not having the leadership to strike a deal.

This is their talking point.  Their instructions from the White House.  This is the message.  And people are stupid enough to fall for it.

Just remember all of the things that were said by the Democrasts during the campaign before the election. Things like revenge, retribution, making people pay.   Remember Obama saying to vote for revenge.

Well......this is what it's all about.  You're seeing it now in this fiscal cliff deal.

It's about blame.

It's about a scorched earth policy to destroy the Republicans while destroying this country.

But why Obama and the Democrats want these things?  Why would they intentionally hurt the country?

It's because if they can destroy the Republicans, increase entitlements, increase spending.....they'll ensure their voting block and power forever.

When the country tanks, Obama and the Democrats will simply place all of the blame on the Repbulicans.

And when the country tanks, the Democrats will say that it's all the fault of the Repbulicans that refused to reach a deal......and you'll have to vote for the Dems to save the country.....eventhough it was them that destroyed it......and the people will believe them.  They're that stupid.  They just voted for it.

That's what it's REALLY about.

A deal is the LAST thing Obama and the Democrats want.

To hell with you and me.

I personally don't see a problem with the formula represented by the cliff. seems to be realistic cuts across the board and realistic taxes across the board. If I were negotiating for a compromise this is about what i would be aiming for. if one has to bleed, let everyone bleed with their brothers and sisters.

social security, medicaid, fed/military pay/pensions and veterans benefits are excluded from the cuts.

I'd like to see this allowed to happen and add a few more cuts to the various bs programs for another .25% or so.

I quit caring back on 11/7. I think the republicans made a mistake by even getting involved in the fiscal avalanche/cliff talks. Let the democrats and liberals get what they want and let the chips fall where they may. Most people have to hit rock bottom before they realize there is a problem. Bring it on, I say.

For those that think going over the cliff is a good thing.....

You must have plenty of extra capital laying around to pay all of that extra tax that you're gonna get socked with.

I don't know about ya'll, but I can't afford a 3+ grand a year hit.

Same here BF. I simply don't have another $300 a month to pay in Federal taxes, let alone all the additional Obamacare taxes and charges. Sadly, very few people have a clue as to what they're talking about regarding who actually pays for what in this country. They hear clap trap like "the rich need to pay their fair share" and fall into the liberal lie trap. They never seem to have a clue when asked about the near 50% who pays zero Federal tax.

All the best,

I think we will go over the cliff  and there will be no bill for anyone to read

IT will not be fun   I am NOT looking forward to it

Do not believe it will cause a depression but will result in a stronger economy assuming that
by summertime a real plan is implemented

It will show us who is full of crap and who is willing to save the country much as the story
of Solomon the two women and the child

My prediction for the books is the tax raise ends up for those over 500k, with SS payments
increasing for good and short term cap gains also increasing, death taxes and mortg deduction being left as they were

Lets see what happens

Yes, some organizations/companies will wait and see what compromises are reached as the year progresses before they make drastic adjustments; however, others will make immediate reductions.  Based on what I've read if we go over this cliff it could cost Americans several hundred thousand American jobs (and maybe as many as two million).  I don't know about you but I need my job.

Forgive me for not embracing the idea of "this just might turn out to be a good thing" philosophy.

The President and Congress need to suck it up, work together, make some compromises now...not later...and get the job done...and while they're at it, address the debt ceiling issue (that's been kicked down the road) that is looming right around the corner.

Exactly.   :cooldude:

I need my job too.  The cuts in the military scare me as that's my employer.  Even if we/me and our facility escape unscathed, the probability of having to pay $3,000.00 or more in taxes every year is going to do more than hurt.  It will be devastating to some people.

I was hoping to replace my wifes car sometime this coming spring-ish, but with all of the going over the cliff crap looming, I don't think that's a possiblity at this point.

Going over the cliff IS NOT a good idea.  But it sure will make Obama and Harry Reid very, very happy.   >:(

We are going over...sooner or later Rome will fall again :(  How soon is the question every one wants to know. Those whom encourage it might want to really consider if they are ready for what comes with it,if they answer "Yes,let it fall" then they may want to look a little closer into what actually comes with it!!  :'(

see, the key word is "together".  the problem is that they don't "compromise".  it's the "my way or the highway" mantality that's gotten us in this situation.  so you can't blame just one party, it is actually both parties that are the problem.  face it, if you're a repbulican (and i am) you HAVE TO raise taxes on all people, and if you're a democrat, you MUST cut spending for your welfare leaches.  if anything, at the least, consider who's getting the free handouts!!  but i don't see either side giving a damn for the commen person.  it's all the same, greed, what's in it for me.

I can't believe that there are those that think raising taxes on the the 'rich' [whatever that means] will solve the problem. I don't hear the 'obama-ites' talking about cutting their spending, their spending cuts are still an increase in spending. I still say that the people have spoken, let them get what they deserve. That may be what it takes to get this country turned around.
Frye makes a good point about the gun issue. We may end up in the toilet but maybe we can keep our guns for awhile longer.
If we go over the 'cliff' we'll just have to tighten our belts for the next couple generations. It'll be from no fault of most of us, but, maybe we'll eventually end up better for it.

..

Everytime I hear Reid speak he blames Repubs. I NEVER hear him talk about compromise. It is all Dem/Lib/Prog way or nothing.

It's a very clever war of words and the Repubs are losing it.

bagelboy

I think everybody is in agreement that the country has been falling apart for years. Definitely not looking forward to a fiscal cliff, However, sometimes you have to hit rock bottom with things. When this happens, perhaps the nation will come together and realize Washington is a complete mess. Perhaps then we can rebuild. Don't know if you noticed, but the Democrats are trying to smash the Republican Party to nothing. They and the liberals are trying to create a 1 party system, they want nothing more than to blame, and between eliminating the Republicans and eventually eliminating guns, they will create the socialist state everyone has been talking about. This is not paranoia on my part, fact I'm not a Republican or a Democrat, I could really give a crap about all of them. However in another generation or so, if things remain the same, I see this happening!

Those that think going off the cliff will "teach us a lesson" and make us hit rock bottom to make the people finally turn around, need to look at Greece and France. They are circling the drain yet they are rioting in the streets to prevent their "benefits" from being taken away. They are at rock bottom and what did they do? They elected people that promised to protect their freebies. We are doing the same thing. When more than half of the people collect from the government, they will NEVER vote to take away their "rights" to their "benefits". We are beyond that tipping point. No matter how bad things get they will still demand more. I don't see an end to the madness, I firmly believe "the good ole days" are gone. Now people are moving off of the unemployment roles, and on to the disabled roles, and we call that progress. I don't see a bright future for the US.

Xtracho

BF is correct. Falling off the cliff is just what the democrats want. They thrive and exist on PR and spin. As for another $3 grand in annual taxes? I don't think the question is can I afford to pay it. The real question is why should I even be threatened with it?

The increase in taxes that we're all gonna get hit with if we do go over the cliff, is just the beginning.  We haven't even talked about the tax bill we WILL be getting because of Obamacare taking effect.

it isn't just the voters who voted for the handouts it's some voters who are employed at City, County, State and Federal who are more than likely to have voted the "wrong" way.

Their jobs also hang in the balance.

Have you noticed how many Fed jobs have been created in the past 4 years? Talk about expanding your base.

in a way its much like the hostes union holding the company in a choke hold.  GIVE US WHAT WE WANT OR WE'LL SHUT YOU DOWN!!  well, what happened?  they're going belly up.  some other company will take whats left of the company and de-unionize it, then make the same thing all over again with labor costs next to zero.  they'll work the workers 50 to 60 hours a week, not pay any benifits, then throw 'em out when they're done with 'em.  that's pretty much what will happen to the government employee's and welfare recipients.  the country goes belly up, they loose all their benifits, then end up on the streets.  then we start over......

This doesn't have too much to do with the 'cliff' ,but, since obama-care has been brought up.... I've mentioned this before. Some friends of ours that are ultra-liberal and worship our president have been quite somber lately since their son lost his job due to obama's 2.4% medical production/manufacture tax.
I don't think we have even begun to feel the impact of both subjects/issues yet.
