(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.� (Yes, that's 80 million)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .0000188

So,statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT Almost everyone has at least one doctor.� This means you are over 9,000 times more likely to be killed by a doctor as by a gun owner!!!

First let me say that I'm strongly opposed to doctors asking patients (children) whether there is a gun in the home.  That was where this comparison originated.

It seems the numbers get more inflated every time this humorous piece makes another cycle around the internet.

Flaws include, but are not limited to, medical death statistics include deaths from complications such as infections following a surgical procedure; the numbers for medical deaths are greatly inflated over even the most hostile reporting; the numbers for gun deaths include only accidents while the final line implies it is total chances of death from a gun owner.

The basic premise is probably defensible, but the numbers are way, way out of line.

That is the main reason I haven't been to a regular dr. for even a routine physical in 5 years, but the wife has been nagging me to go.  What for, to tell me I need to lose some weight and blah, blah, blah?  Sounds like a waste of 20 bucks in gas if you ask me.

I'll go in when I feel pretty darn bad or something is wrong and not until then.

I really dont see that happening anyway. There has been no talk of it and I belong to a major hospital.

Take a few minutes to review the President's list of announced initiatives.  It has been proposed before and is regularly practiced by large numbers of family physicians.

When we take our kids in, the drs. ask us if guns are in the house, but not the kids.

Personally, it is none of their business and drs. should stick to practicing medicine instead of personal choice what we do or use in our house. 

Yet again, they ask if on city water or well water since pertains to fluoride in water or not for the kids. I guess they think guns and water quality belong in the same line of questioning?

We have family members that are in nursing, they said they are required to ask, and have been for a while, and they defend it as being a good idea.

I've seen the gun question on routine medical history form you fill out prior to seeing the doc.

Word to the wise, do not write none of your fokin bidness......... just check no and move on.

You'll note these medical questionnaires are not affidavits and not under oath.

I have written yes please to the question of sex (gender).

Wow. I have never been asked nor have any pts of mine. Its not even listed under any of the routiene questions. And were one of the biggest Regional Hospitals in the State.  Guess its nice to live in Ind.

Fudgie - Docs haven't been mandated to ask YET, but Obama's 23 Executive Orders issued against freedom included the following, which have raised some eyebrows:

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

Well from #16 you posted, it does not state they 'have' to ask like everyone is saying.
#17 Most medical professionals have a duty to act persay, to make appropriate action from reported threats, esp to oneself.

If that's the best they ever do, I can live with it (just check no).  The alternative of required licensing and registration would be far worse.
