Mounted new Kuryakyn 4050 pegs

After several attempts mounting my new pegs, I find the right side is about 1" in front of the left peg. Both are mounted on the bottom engine guard as far forward as possible, that's about the only spot they can go to avoid bends in the tube. Right now I have them a little lower than level. Hope they won't drag in turns. Going to try them out tomorrow. Does anybody have any experience with Kuryakyn 4050 pegs?

That sounds about right.  The crash bars are staggered.  The right is about 1 inch more forward the the left.

I have them on my 98, they came on the bike when I got it. I am 6ft and cannot move the pegs forward enough to be comfortable. I am going to switch them to a longhorn style mount

I just received my 4050s in the mail today and while attempting to install the crash bar clamp I stripped out one of the heli coils that Kury uses on the inside portion of the crash bar clamp and stripped two bolts.  Did your clamp have threaded holes with heli coils aready installed?  I'm going to contat Kury and ask for a replacement clamp.  The design is great but the materials are kind of POS.

I did the same thing Farther, altho I don't recall how the threads were, my mistake was not remembering to use the anti-seize that came with them. When you get them right you'll love them.

mine didn't have heli-coils that I saw, but the instructions were pretty bad. I know I mounted the clamps at least 4 times on the first side, then when working on the second side figured out the metal L  brackets where mislabeled. The shorter one labeled GL1500 fit correct so I took off the first one again and changed. They are good and sturdy now but I'm not sure how I'm going to like them. They say they have limited adjustment on the Valk. and so far all I can get is pretty much straight back or level and about 6 degrees down from level. Anything else hits the valve cover. Maybe I still don't have them or right? Not sure if them will drag or not. They have other models about $50. bucks cheaper now I am wondering if I should have went with them.

I'm 5'11", I mounted mine on the curve, and they're kind of "swooped back"... for me it is super
comfortable... here's a picture with some unrelated text...

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking Scooby, but here's how I went about it...

Test fit (without tighening, or finger tight) the part that clamps to the lower curved part of the
engine guard... If you do yours like mine it will be on the curve. Then, again without tightening,
mount the arm and the peg. If I remember, there's very few sane choices for the angle that the
arm comes off the clamp.

I talked on the phone with Frank Smoak when I was putting mine on, his are on the curve too, and
he said he wouldn't surprised if clamping on the curve actually mars or even crimps the curved part
of the engine guard, but he didn't care, cause he likes it and he's never taking it off. I agree that
it could mar the engine guard, and I agree that I'm not ever taking them off 

If you think about it, the clamp is made to fit on a straight tube, not on a curve, so try to get it
how you think you'll like it before you tighten it. Remember that the engine guards aren't symmetrical,
and you probably are... when you're looking down at the pegs from the seat, one peg should look
a little closer to the guard than the other - it won't look right but it will feel right.

Mine have been on for about 15,000 miles, never come loose or had a problem. Good luck... here's

I was wondering what the antiseize was for, no mention of it in the instructions.  I used blue locktite instead.  In any case Kuryakyn is sending me two new clamps, or so they say.

I just picked up a pair on Flea-Bay and mounted them the same way.  Major improvement in comfort.   it took a few minutes to realize that the mounts were not symmetrical. Thought something was bent.

I mounted mine very similar to hubcapsc's - on the bottom angled part of the engine guard.  It did take a lot of trial and error to finally find my comfort zone. 


Left side mount.

Also...I am 6' 2" with a 34" inseam.  I have a Mustang seat - which raises you up a bit from the stock seat - and I have installed the Gen Mar handle bar risers.  All this stuff has the potential to change your comfort zone - even the riding boots you wear!
