This 'biker' couple replete with their Harley suits and all the assorted stuff were dicking along on the road shoulder with the right signal on. I sure thought they were turning into the gas station but just kept going and I kept an eye on them. They then just pulled left, right out into the road right the &^&(*& in front of me. Almost got them and I was watching them. So I guess its not always the drivers fault.

Remember, Some bad cage drivers buy bikes and maintain the same priorities on a bike. Non thinking and non observant attitude.

you have never forgotten to turn your signal off and left it on for a while?

That's why Honda equipped our bikes with self-cancelling turn signals...NOT

Ever left turn signals on, I probably would have to say that I have. But, 2 wrongs usually don't make a right.
People make mistakes, thats why we're human. Its what we do. But, some mistakes don't mean much, others can kill us. If I only make 6 screw ups a day, its been a good day.

I got in a bad habit way back in time.

When I turn a corner or slide into a parking lot, and or exiting a parking lot, when I shift a gear I automatically hit the turn signal button.

Works wonders for me.

I've forgotten to cancel my turn signal from time to time but I never forget to check my mirror. I don't mind being mistaken for old and senile but I'd like to put off being mistaken for dead as long as possible.  ;)

I pretty much do the same ....If I turn it on I just leave my thumb on it then after turning just push the button.

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

Yep, once you start going thru these mental checklists and actually doing them, pretty soon it becomes a habit. My left thumb just automatically goes to that little button, just as my left hand goes to the fuel valve as the right hand goes to the key. Its just stuff that you do.

Concur.  The turn signal merely confused drivers near him.  The shoulder cruising followed by an abrupt manuever without checking for other traffic nearly got him plowed over.

I have done that forgetting to turn the signals off but usually within 1-2 miles I look down and see my mistake.  I think we all have done it a few times unfortunately.  I do know colder than say 40 degrees outside,  my turn signals don't work or if they do work,  they turn on about 10 seconds after I flip the turn signal switch. I think I need to disassemble the housing and clean it out real good since spraying contact cleaner inside the hole around the flipper switch didn't help.  Or, just don't drive if under 40 degrees outside?  With this last day of winter being today and going to be -10 below overnight with wind chill, the first day of spring being tomorrow,  might not be able to get the bike out anyways until May 1st the way this winter is going.  Odd, this time last year was 80 degrees, not 10 for a high!  :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

Do the new goldwings or newer harleys, etc. have self cancelling turn signals?  You'd think with all the technology like airbags and ABS braking they are putting on these new bikes nowadays,  a self cancelling turn signal should be a no brainer?

Yep.

The older Harleys had self-cancelling turn signals, too.  Leave 'em on for more than a block or two, and they fell off their mounts.
