If you have to smoke, at least do it right...

At least they're filtered cigarettes!

Forty years ago I was austersized when bringing up the stink and health hazards. I knew people would come around to my way of thinking eventually.

In those days anyone coming to your house freely lit up. You couldn't dine anywhere without inhaling the smoke. People lit up anywhere to they wanted.  I thought that smokers were the rudest, most inconsiderate people around.

Now smokers are more polite about it and have some sort of understanding.

The point of letting business's choose sounds plausible at first but what about their employees?  Would you quit you job to get away from smokers?

Business owners have to consider the costs of employing a smoker.  Higher insurance rates, multiple smoking breaks, sick days etc.

I appreciate the changes that have been made and realize I can't escape all cigaret smoke.

So thank you to all of the polite smokers.  To the rest, can't you find something else to suck on?

Forty years ago I was ostracized when bringing up the danger and health hazards. I knew people would come around to my way of thinking eventually.

In those days anyone coming to your house freely carried a gun. You couldn't dine anywhere without being near a gun. People carried a gun anywhere to they wanted.  I thought that gun people were the rudest, most inconsiderate people around.

Now gun people are more polite about it and have some sort of understanding.

The point of letting business's choose sounds plausible at first but what about their employees?  Would you quit you job to get away from gun carriers?

Business owners have to consider the insurance costs of employing a gun carrier.  Higher insurance rates, multiple gun cleaning breaks, etc.

I appreciate the changes that have been made and realize I can't escape all evil gun carriers.

So thank you to all of the polite gun carriers.  To the rest, can't you find something else to carry?  8)

Seems to be slowing down a bit and the popcorn is gone. Enjoyed most of the responses.
Down here in south Florida are some of the rudest smokers I've ever run across. As I said before, I'm not very militant about being anti-smoking. I just get up and move. But these rude ass smokers just p&**s me off. Some go out of their way to be as rude as possible just because they don't see you light up, and, many are nothing but posers. Last night  we [ 8 of us] got up and moved because of these morons, while I moved our table over to them and bought their table a round of drinks as we moved. They at least waved when they left, but, probably still don't get it.
I have what I believe is a good reason for being anti-smoking and I'm a gun owner [ 63 of them at last count] so I can't for the life of me see any correlation between the two, but, I'm not that bright, so...

tank_post142

take away their right to smoke,(because you don't agree with it) and just keep taking and taking and taking.

I wouldn't say I want to take "your right to smoke" away.  Just use caution as with any lethal item.

The correlation I see is an anecdote I used with smokers defending their right to smoke. If they can smoke anywhere without any concern then I can shoot a gun anywhere I want without any concern.   If you get hurt, too bad.  Both cause death.

BTW

I'll defend your right to own guns. Guns don't scare me. It's some of the people in possession of the guns that scare me.

Get the butter and salt out.  There may still be a few kernels left.

Well, more rights are being taken almost daily. Its become a way of life.
I think a smoker should be able to smoke, until it gets in the way of my ability to breathe somewhat clean decent smelling air.
Whether smoking is legal in South Florida in a Tiki bar situation, I don't know. I hear both ways. I doubt I would ever push the issue anyway. If I see folks smoking I try to sit away from them. If they move in on us, at times I'll still move if need be. I should be able to breathe decent smelling air and be able to enjoy my beer. But most could care less if they realize  we don't smoke. I guess my main concern is rude stupid people.

tank_post142

I'll stand next to you in the fight against rude people. but we have to come up with a realistic definition of rude

My nose dont work real well but when I was a smoker a couple things I couldn't stand is smoking in a car with the windows all up. If your going to smoke in a car get your window open a bit and let the smoke drift out. Smoking in a cafe is always a bad thing. In a bar with a eating area do not sit at the table and smoke while others at the table are trying to eat. and last even at the bar dont blow your smoke in sombodys face.  Its plain an simple , be curtious.  I see some bars once an a while that the owners allow smoking and the people do ask if you mind if they lite one up.      Last note ck. this, I remember when places were installing smoke eaters in places so people could smoke and it wasn't suppose to bother anyone. sorry to say but it was the childrens Hospital in Milw. Wi. -20deg. outside. my brother and me went for a smoke. I think the room was maybe 12x20 with 2 smoke eaters that needed the filters cleaned real bad, the room was filled full of blue smoke and it smelled real bad annnnd had people smoking in there. I walked back out and smoked outside. That Hospital should of been fined heavy for letting it get that bad.   Its all common sense but again some have none.

didn't Australia ban private ownership of most firearms too?

Okay, I'm firing up the popcorn popper now. And if somebody decides to shoehorn religion into this conversation I'm gonna sell tickets.

Seriously though, as a nonsmoker that is severely sensitive to cigarette smoke I am very grateful for smoke free restaurants.

I can see where business' should be allowed to decide for themselves if they are going to be smoke free or not.

I do think that if they allow smoking that some type of sign should be posted warning us nonsmokers before we are subjected to the smoke.

Its all common sense but again some have none.  end quote :

Exactly. If sense was common, everyone would have some.

Yesterday AM we were in a place for breakfast. Looking around , place was packed, no one was smoking. Then a couple at the table next to us decided to light up. We were sitting outside and a little breeze was blowing [ in a good direction], so, that wasn't a problem, it didn't affect us a bit.

I'm down to all the un-popped kernels.  :)

You done did it.....      I have to admit that I am an ex-smoker and loved it.  However, I quit a few years ago and once I did, I didn't enjoy being around smoke much.  Sure, the occasional wiff now and then was good for a brief second.... but not much more than that.  It stinks, and when you smoke you really don't smell how bad it is.   I do think ex-smokers are the worst Non-Smokers......

I used to visit my VFW regularly, the smoke eaters sucked (as in didn't work well) and I noticed it even as a smoker.  When I stopped smoking, I tried to visit the VFW... but it was very difficult.  As an Officer of the VFW, I tried to encourage them (the VFW) to make one side of the bar Non smoking so that even tho there was lots of smoke, at least you could eat without someone sitting next to you with a cigarette or pipe or cigar.  They didn't want to do that.

It was soo bad, that when I was there at the bar, having a beer and eating some wings, someone sat next to me and then shortly lit up a smoke (I think intentionally).   After a few mins I made a point of lifting my cheek off the stool and leaning away from them and let a big stinker loose.  He got offended and started to say something..... when I said.... "if you can smoke while I am eating, I can fart or crap my pants while you are smoking... and if you don't like it, leave".   I don't go there anymore, I can't handle the smoke.... nor can I build up that much gas to engage in those kind of bar fights anymore.

And... my drinking decreased as well... so I have more money for motorcycles and gas(oline).

I do see "no smoking" in the resturants....especially by the cooks  :2funny:

Pappy!

I smoke cigars....good ones. Only smoke them outside and occasionally at an establishment should I choose to and if it is allowed there. Out of respect I will be the downwind person!

I worked on the Grumman C 2 A in the Navy. If i rekemember correctly there are 2 big valves(for lack of a better decription)that control the pressurization of the aircraft. Most if not all of the cabin air exits through those valves sooner or later. When new you could tell from the way the material the valve was assembled from by how it looked-new and shiny. Nicotene from cigarettes left THE nastiest brown stains and a very sticky mess on those valves. I was STILL a smoker at this time. I can't recall the name of the solvent we used(M E K??)to clean these valves but it was strong-the only thing that would remove that residue-and we needed gloves to handle the solvent and a VERY well ventilated area to clean the valves. When i got my New 84 Kenworth it had a light grey interior-but not long after i got it it had a nasty brown stain on the new plastic-as did the other trucks that had drivers that smoked. And i still have that nasty brown sticky residue in my lungs 10 or 12 years after i quit smoking. Wanna take a guess on what will kill me?? RIDE SAFE.
