I know this has been discussed at length before, but I know for a fact what causes the wrinkled chrome syndrome.
I was doing some test with oem tank removed and remote tank employed with a length of 2x4 under the kickstand. When I removed the rigging on the remote tank some fuel with a heavy concentration of Berrymans must have spilled on the cover. Was pristine yesterday, now looks like u no what. Anyone know if these are still available?

Gas does eat plastic so it is possible.

I ordered a new one last summer. Came in 2 days.

I don't know if it was just the gas or the gas/Berrymans, I know it works fast. Got to get one on order. I see what that old thread was about now, thought I had something special cause the chrome on mine still looked so good.

I just ordered one two weeks ago from Mike at www.valkyrieblingandmore.com

Some say gas, some say heat does it. I think either will but gas works faster

Spilled gas on a hot one really works fast..... you can see and hear it crinkle up right before your eyes.

I didn't actually see it wrinkle but I know it was perfect one day, next day chrome loose as a goose. Did not run it much during test, and had large squirrel cage fan blowing on front. I did see some fuel drain out onto eng. but I never would have thought. When I get a replacement, I may just remove it before fuel disconnect.

I bought one a week ago or so from partzilla. Didn't even think of valkyrie bling and more. Had it crossed my mind at the time, would've checked there first. Just to support our advertiser.
I've wondered if the wrinkling in the chrome wasn't a sign that the alternator is running too hot.  ???
