$6.5K sounds fair to me, even with 80K.  But there can be REGIONAL differences.  Recommend you look at CycleTrader for 99 IS's, say within 5-750 miles and see what they are getting.  Also regional Craigslist listings.  Course, they only give asking prices, not final sales prices.  The information you find can often help with your sale, when you can point out the bikes going for $5K do not have what yours has.

Your listed upgrades and new parts/tires are worth a higher price than $5K IMHO.

Really $1500 is not that big a deal in the grand scheme........... most horse traders would split the difference and call it good.   If you are not compelled to sell, keep trying.  Often if the bike is sweet, you just have to get them to show up and see it to make the sale at your price.

If you can get your painter to fix the small paint dings for cheap (and you are doing the right thing pointing them out), it might help get your price too.

NITRO

I think you're going to scare off anyone that isn't familiar with the flat-6 engine with the miles your cycle has. I know she's just getting broken in and looks to be in good shape, but it'll be a tough sell at $6,500 (at least it would be around here).
When in doubt, ride.

Nitro is right re. the mileage, people just aren't aware of the reliability of these engines. Locally, there was a guy that had his old four cyl. Wing torn down for restoration and rebuild of the engine at 125K on it. After pulling the engine down, they mic'd it and found it near new engine specs. They just put it all back together and left it alone. Said he spent more on rebuilding the carbs.  :cooldude:

Sooner or later, someone will come along that knows these bikes and will make a reasonable offer. To me, your price is in the ball park although you might look into correcting the paint problems if it isn't too pricey.

cookiedough

Yah, it depends a lot on region and you might want to clarify in your ad to someone who doesn't know that 80K is nothing for a Goldwing engine just getting broken in at that mileage.  6K would be reasonable I would think pushing 6.5K though.  I don't feel your scratches/touch up little knicks are that bad since my 2001 all black I/S has a ton more bigger scratches/chips than what you have shown even with under 30K mileage and 99% of them were there when I bought it at 14.5K for mileage.

Hoser

I think it's worth it, belly tank and any other acc should bring it up.  By chance does it have a cb an intercom?  That would help also.  Still a little early, better chance in a couple weeks.  Hoser.

Agreed the mileage is the killer.

Last year bought one very similar with 19,500 for $6200.  With that mileage $5000 to $5500 may be right.

I hate to say it but it is worth more in parts than $5000
You could sell the bags and truck for $2000 - 2500 and than sell the bike with fairing for $5000
But I would hate to see a nice parted out.

I M H O yer NOT outa the ball park-in fact-to me-good price. Did you leave yourself ANY room to negotiate?? And I am partial to that color scheme.  :2funny: And it is a tad early in the season. If you can hang on til school is out you MIGHT get your price or do a little better. RIDE SAFE.

Couple issues IMO.....

Mileage is one, but not overly significant by itself....

"Fresh Paint" that has issues/scratches/chips is not "fresh", and there may be hidden issues under said "fresh paint" that are unknown.   That paint doesn't shine IMO... and even looks flat in some areas.

Not a lot of  Bling.

Pictures need to be better to get a better price.  If it's all that... then take the pictures right to show it off.  For someone that is far away, pictures mean quite a bit.

Dash panel seam is not together properly... needs attention.

All in all... I'd say the offers of 5k are in line with what I see in the photos.

I think better pics would help your ad. That bike should bring 6k easily IMHO. Nice looking IS.

I think most generally people are uneducated about Valkyries. Many riders don't know they exist, or ever existed. They seem to appeal to a certain niche of people. It seems like lots of us moved up from Honda shadows.
Let those who ride decide.

When I bought my 98 the fresh paint cost the seller as most assume hidden damage. Maybe like everyone said fix the paint and reword the ad. I bought a 99  IS same color with 28000 last year for 8200. I paid for a clean low mileage bike with a bit of extra chrome although not that much more. I think it's worth what you paid and fix what you can you'll get it. Why did you paint it?

ugelstad

$6500 sounds like a deal.  Hold out for better offers.  I think they are just low balling you, to see what you would take.  Ebay seems to be doing better.

I don't think you're asking enough for it.

Put a price on it like yer proud of it.....and then negotiate down from there.  Make 'em think they took you for a ride when you sell it to them for that 6500 that you're wanting for it.

I'm serious when I say mine won't leave my garage for less than $8500.  Had a local shop owner tell me they could sell it for that no problem and offered to put it on consignment.....and there was already one guy out in the parking lot drooling over it at the time.......and mine's just a totally re-modeled '97 standard.
I can't help about the shape I'm in

My advice.

Get better pictures!

Pictures sell! Use them to make it look AWESOME.

No offense, but right now it looks kind of "oh well".

Spend some time and take some decent pictures. (not direct sunlight)
Pretend your a fashion photographer, wash it, get it wet. ( she's a sexy phat lady, remember?)
Make her look special. I have always liked that color combo, but not in those pictures (too contrasty).

Do close ups with a couple of well lit full shots from the 3/4 front and opposite 3/4 back.
Also mention these engines are capable of seeing 300-400K.

Good luck!

I would agree with the better pics posts. Though I would admit that if I had the $$ I'd have given you a call, as I would love to have an IS.

Note that the weather is still a bit nippy here, at least in Central Wa. (46-52 degrees on today's ride). People are more interested when the weather is nicer.  I would think you'd have no problem getting at least 6K for it.  There is a 2001 IS for sale in Ephrata listed for $12500 (now 11500) that will never sell even if it only has 5400 miles on it.

I have a question on your bike for sale. When you say you are getting offers for around 5k , are these guys actually looking at the bike or over the phone offers..? ???

PS...  I would not consider any offers on the phone.. till the person has had eyes on the machine...jmho .... :cooldude:
we'll be there when we get there -   Valkless,, on lookout....

The price is right! The ad should not include the best offer note unless you want bargain hunters. IMO

It's worth what you can get someone to pay for it.

If you hold your ground you may be able to get the $6500 for it.  It's missing a couple of key items that folks look for in an Interstate, notably the CB, but it has something most don't, the belly tank.

Truthfully, even though there are a lot more miles left in that bike, a buyer may correctly believe there are some items (other than the powerplant) on a bike with that mileage that are going to need attention.

I bought one from your are three years ago with about the same mileage.  I paid a little over $6000.

Because of the current state of the economy and other factors, a buyer willing to go nationwide can buy a bike similar to yours in the $5500 range.  That said, the are plenty of buyers paying well more than $6500 for an Interstate.

Lastly, many buyers will automatically assume you're asking more than you really want.  My guess is that if you'd offered it at $7000 you'd be getting offers around $6000 from the same people who are now offering you five.

From what I see selling on E-bay you got 6000 in parts.
