Tourer/ I/s Saddlebag dimensions.

Can someone tell me where to find the dimensions for the stock saddlebags?  I'm looking into switching to ammo cans to replace my leather saddlebags and would like to know how big I can go.  I've read that the 50 cal can fits, but I'd like to get some more room than that so I'm hoping a 40mm grenade can  or a 20mm can will fit.

Thanks!  Looks like now I have to decide between the 20 &30MM cans or maybe a side opening type can (think ST1300 Bags) THe 81MM can would work too.  Hmmmm. Choices choices.

Never heard any positives out of the side opening bags. Stuff always falls out is what I hear.

Looks better than I would have thought.  With some black paint they would look real good.  How did you mount them.  EZ Brackets might be one way to make them easily removable.  Is the 41 pounds the weight of the empty or full box?

Used OEM leather saddlebag mounts. Also SS bolts and shaft collars as spacers.
Not going to paint them,...I like the utilitarian/military look.

See the above post,....OEM mounts are sturdy and cheap.

The plusses that I see is that they are cheap (stock hard bags are what? $1000 plus not including paint) and they are water proof  if the seals are good. Plus with a bolt and a small lock they are lockable and pretty difficult to break into ( atleast not quickly).  Plus having a second set made to interchange can leave you with a set of in town bags and a set of road trip bags.  Cons: they look like what they are, ammo cans.

FWIW, they also look like they would do pretty good service in a bike tip-over or slow speed get off.

Look into LineX to coat them.  It is that truck bedliner stuff.
