I'm fairly new to the Valk.  I sometime feel a tick or little bump in the handlebars when riding on some rougher roads - it feels like I'm hitting a real sharp (but small) bump.  Is this normal or should I be checking something?

Thanks.

Pretty tough to come up with a decent answer without some more of the bike's history.

Have you had anything done to it recently? Since you relate that it is "new" to you, did the previous owner say that he or she had things done?

One thing that happened to me last year that might be similar (ok, pretty much exactly) to what you describe has to do with the front brakes.
Had some work done on them and the retaining spring on one of the pads didn't get set right and the pad would jiggle when I hit a bump and I'd hear a very sharp sound and feel a "tick". Sounded like it was hitting the underside of the front fender but the sound just channeled through there. Annoying as all get out. Easy fix.

Go find a "rough" road and make it "tick". When it does, gently apply the brake just enough to have the pads contact the rotor. Does the "ticking" stop? If it does, the issue is likely with the front brake.

Not saying this is the problem you are experiencing.
Just one possiblility

Pull up and down hard on your handle bars and check for looseness.

You may also want a real technician check that your forks triple tree bearings are properly torqued to spec.

you could be feeling the movement of the floating calipers...they will occasionally make a noise over bumps.

Additionally, stock fork springs on my bike gave a quick "jolt" going over expansion joints in the road and when I installed the progressive fork springs the front end harshness was gone and felt like it was gliding over the same expansion joints.

It's probably just you getting used to the new bike.  If the steering head needs to be re-torqued you should notice wandering when you take your hands off the handlebars when riding straight on the highway.  My bike was "hunting" until the steering head was re-torqued.

good luck.

i did just add front brake pads and "kinda" screwed up the clip that goes in the back off the pads - i " kinda" fixed it (or thought i did) - Nitro (thanks again) gave me a new clip - I'll install that and see what happens.

thanks for the help.

Check the big nut on the top of the triple tree....bet its loose. If so, follow the manual for tightening it...

On the shop talk page of this board is a list of noises and the shortcomings of our steeds. And at times these things do kinda sound like something that don't need to be happening. I know I know-not much help. Find another Valkyrie rider in your area and they might could check it over for you.  :cooldude: You have landed on THE best board fer Valkyrie related stuff.  :coolsmiley: RIDE SAFE.

that happened to me also. Couldn't figure it out at first. It was loose risers on the handle bars. I had put new 4" risers about six months earlier. some how they loosened up again. No more since I retightened them. :)
