I was getting a little stagnant in my workouts.  I have been working hard to lose some weight.  I am down 50 lbs or so... and am under 300 for the 1st time in 21+ years.  But my personal training sessions and on my own workouts have been getting a little stale.  I decided to try CrossFit, at the urging of one of the guys that works for me.  I went on Monday and they were having a Groupon.  I got a month for $55.  Unlimited workouts.

Holy CRAP!!!  They start you out with 3 days of what they call "onramp".  Basically teaching you the safe way to execute the CrossFit movements.  I went thru 2 days of onramp classes with workouts at the ends of them... and showed up for my 3rd day... and they told me that I had already done all the stuff they normally do in 3 days... and that I was ready for the WOD.  (Workout Of the Day).  SURPRISE!!!  So I do the WOD on my 3rd day.  15 deadlifts, 15 push ups, 15 pull ups (assisted) and 15 Burpees.  x 4 rounds.  I only did 10 instead of 15 as a method to accommodate my newness. Then on day 4, the WOD was 10 tire flips and a 200 meter sprint, as many rounds as possible for 15 minutes.  HOLY CRAP!!  That was Thursday, and I am just getting over the sore from that.  I did 6 rounds in 15 minutes.  And the tire flips felt EASY at the time... but I have a lot of sore spots I didn't expect.  Forearms, Calves, Quads, traps.

I THINK I like it... but I am not sure.   :-\  I believe it's the next step to my personal fitness... but man is it HARD.  I did NOT go on Friday.  They preach 3 days on and a day off... I did 4 on, so I felt like I needed to be off on Friday.  I am glad too.  The WOD was whats called the filthy fifty.

Hey Jabba,

I haven't done the insane crossfit but certainly am active in the gym (6 days a week...alternate lift days and bicycle/cardio).  Being fit sure makes doing stuff much easier and more enjoyable......especially riding the Valk!  :cooldude:

I was fortunate enough to make a book called "Fit Over 40" ten years ago and pretty much look the same today...........one thing for sure.......there are aches and pains I never knew existed....LOL....age..a lovely thing.. :uglystupid2:

Good for you, keep it up!  :cooldude:

The only way I'd try that is if they have an O2 tank standing by at the end.
I can't help about the shape I'm in
I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to

My WOD today was tilling the garden... I have a Troy built Pony tiller that I swapped a 5 HP briggs motor onto in place of the 3 HP Tecumseh that came on it.  HANG onto that puppy!!!  It's too short for me... but I am sure a sweaty mess after 2 hours of wrestling that bad boy.

Back to the XFit gym tomorrow.

Congrats on the endurance and will power on doing the work OUT!  Guessing you are about same age but taller and in the 40's as well.  I sure have slipped since when I was 18 around 200 and now 80lbs. heavier some 20+ years later mostly in the gutt.  I doubt I could do 1/2 the workout as in the video link and even age 18 would be hard pressed to do all of them.  I've gotta do something though and prefer biking and have gone out a few times and sort of enjoy it riding around town but certainly not the workout you are doing.  Running is out but still can walk although don't really enjoy it as much as doing other things.

Speaking of rototilling, going to get my workout on that this week to get the garden planted since after tonight HOPEFULLY the frost warnings are done for.

I think I burned some calories just watching the video.  Ill stick to bicycle riding and my bowflex, its way more humane and I still lost 15 lbs in the last 9 months.  I did the math sorta close to one ounce per day.

I would have loved that cross fit program 20 years ago! Now, not so much.

listen, i've said it a thousand times, i'm NOT FAT, i'm large boned.  either that or i'm about 36" too short for my weight!!  ;D

My daughter is a Cross Fit Trainer for her military unit in Kosovo.   She just ran a 1/2 marathon on Mother's Day.   All I'll say about this is, no thanks, I'm no longer interested.   Been there, done that.  Found out that I'm allergic to pain.

Jabba, Congrats on losing the weight.  Keep up the good work.  It will be worth it in the years to come.

I have always been active, mostly working in the woods as a youngun, then started with a gym when I got a desk job.  I was lucky in that I had a hard time gaining weight, so haven't really had problems loosing a pound or two.   I used to run till knees started bothering me (in my early 50's).  Now hit the gym for weights 4 times a week and walk 2-3 miles several times a week.

I go to IXF CrossFit on Madison Ave, just south of the greenwood mall.

Workouts Monday and Tuesday were as follows:

Monday:

5 pull ups, 10 push ups, and run/walk 400 meters with a 25lb weight plate over my head.  arms extended.  If the weight drops... you stop moving.  As many rounds as possible for 18 minutes.

Tuesday was what they call a "Hero" workout.  Named "DT".

12 Deadlifts
9 Cleans
6 Jerks
x 5 rounds.

That was a good one...  I did get complimented on my form by one of the coaches.  Said that my form was excellent, and that most people are still screwing it up years later...   :cooldude:

They preach a strict diet too.  Which is right in my wheel house fighting diabetes anyway.  Meat, vegetables, fruit and nuts.  No processed carbs and no processed sugar.  I have been pretty good...and need to be.  I am almost OFF my insulin.  Double  :cooldude:

Pretty sore though.  I have a spasming back last night and this AM.  Hopefully it passes soon.

GREAT for you Jabba!  I'm rootin for ya! :) Proper nutrition is without a doubt 80% of the battle.  Don't know if you've ever tried Ezekiel products (whole grain/sprout bread..........NO FLOUR).....excellent source of slow burning carbs.

I guess anyone who posts on this thread must be an "old fat biker".
That applies here.  Gave up looking like the pictures a long time ago.
Guess I'll grab a beer and kickback in the recliner.   :D
