Sorry to have been absent for so long, but my c drive crashed in Tucumcari the first night of our InZane trip.  When I got back to Big D, I had two days to wash the bike, do laundry, waste almost $200 in diagnostics (dead drive) and data recovery (failed attempt) at Geek Squad, find some really good guys at www.internetdesk.com who were able to extract all my stuff to new hard drives, and repack for another week-long trip.  Intermittent 110v on the second trip (a whole 'nuther discussion) kept me from doing any serious restoration until this weekend.  Fun stuff for a birthday weekend...

Wondered why I hadn't seen you around. Glad you got everything taken care of.

eek!  dave, that just sucks.  glad you were able to recover your stuff, though.  i lost a computer about two years ago to a motherboard failure, but because of the weird RAID config i had, i almost lost my data with the board.  ever since, i've been completely religious about backups.  it's almost as serious an addiction as motorcycling with me.   :uglystupid2:

Three years ago my Western Digital took a nosedive and I lost years worth of pictures, music, and stuff....To this day I still don't backup...maybe I should look into that... :uglystupid2:

My new little 250GB Seagate Free Agent was about $85 at MicroCentre.  The 500GB was about $115.  Roughly 3" x 5" x 3/8" and powered through the USB.

Yep-agree. I bought a 320 GB Seagate at Wal Mart for $60 yesterday and in two hours my whole laptop was backed up..... :cooldude:
