TWA 800, remember ?

Anyone remember the TWA 800 crash on the east coast back 1996 ?  I didn't like the way the investigation was handled. The outcome was that deteriorated insulation on the low voltage wires run through the fuel tanks was the cause of the explosion. The FBI took the investigation over/away from the NTSB which is not normal.
I have never believed the result of the investigation. I've always believed the FBI [ James Kallstrom] lied.

Anyway, the investigation has been re-opened to my surprise. Good.
Just as a little background, I'm interested in all aviation crashes and read as many as I can. I'm a retired commercial cargo pilot and still active flight instructor. So, this interests me.

Well 17 years after the fact.  I'm NOT expecting any new insights BUT I will let this play out.  Having helped bring in a new aircraft into service for the U.S.Navy(Grumman C 2 A)and worked on some older stuff(Super Connie)I was as skeptical as you are. BUT remember-we are dealing with GUBMINT types here.  RIDE SAFE.

I remember that streak traveling from the ground to the plane. Looked for a video but couldn't find one. In a previous live I build tactical rocket motors for the military and have seen many test firings.....that streak looked awfully familiar.

I've read and listened to many of the witnesses and watched and read everything I could. I also believe it was a missile, and, not from a terrorist. I also believe thats why the investigation was taken away from the NTSB. It'll be interesting to hear what the 6 or 7 former NTSB investigators have to say. I also wonder why it took them so long to come forward.

I seem to recall that there were LOTS of hinkie things about that case.....

WHY are they reopening it now? What is going on CURRENTLY that they are diverting attention and resources away from?

Read a book titled Night Fall by Nelson Demille.  It's a "novel" based on facts surrounding the case and is a very good read.

Supposily there are a few of the NTSB (I guess) personel retiring and decided to speak up about how they were told what to say and not what to say about this way back then.

I remember hearing the same thing about a military ship nearby...and that was the first thing I thought of when I read the news on this today.

It would be interesting if they find something that goes counter to the official story.  You wouldn't believe what this has cost aircraft manufacturers and airlines.  Google SFAR 88 if you want to get an idea.
