went for a ride today with HD CVO rider .

Went for a ride today with an aquaintance, he rides a 2010 CVO HD that's loaded . Beautiful bike ,he has about $40k tied up in it . I tried some of my favorite back roads ,35-45 mph easy curves . I noticed he kept getting waaaay behind  and I often lost sight of him . I asked if he would rather hit some 2 lane highways and he said "yes" . we took a break and talked about which way to go .Anyone in my area knows SR 135 between Nashville and Freetown is a great ride . He didn't want to go that way because its too curvy and he has to shift too much ...so we hit US 50 back thru a busy town hit US 31 and back home , straight boring hiway , 55 mph all the way . He wanted to be home by 5pm we were home by 3 . I think his bike is too top heavy for him and he is afraid to lean in a curve . 50 yrs old and got his midlife crisis bike I'm guessing . I don't think we will ride again , I think I will be too busy .

Where was my invite?  I havent been on the bike since the kentucky ride. Well I take that back, I took a short 30 mile ride out to the parents last weekend. Then it decided to monsoon on me.

I wasn't sure how busy you had been working and with the new addition . I know a local guy looking for an operator if you want something more local .

I actually just took another job with banks machine and engineering as their electrician. The offer was too good to turn down. So ill have more time to ride starting next weekend.

Your invite is with everyone elses . Anytime you are in my area and look me up , we can ride , as long as family plans aren't a factor . I'm ok with that . my initial post wasn't about his bike so much as about it being a drag that it turned out like it did . I do think HDs are too top heavy though . And the Victory I rode seemed that way to me also. My wife keeps up better than he did .

Now to be fair you do tend to get a little crazy in the twisties. But who dosent like draggin a peg every now and then? Maybe the price of his scooter scares him. I know id be nervous if I had 40 grand between my legs.

No, I was just cruising slow and taking it easy and even at medium speed I was losing him . a lot . I think his cornering confidence was low . He's always talking about how much he rides , but I'm thinking Highway only .

I have found that in several harley guys. I shut a loud mouth harey rider up last year on 135. Said there was no way I could keep up with him espically with that stupid car tire. I was waiting on him at story for several minutes. He didnt even stop, kept going and left me by myself. What a jerk havent talked to him since. I dont like being that way but he did run his mouth alot before it happened. I didnt say a word just shook my head and agreed with him.

I recently had the discussion about this subject . With a HD rider . I said that I believe that people of all walks of life just want something they can comment about to "1 Up" the next guy so they are better in some way . whether its a car or house , a MC brand or opinion on a mechanical issue
,whatever . Some people always have to be right .

THAT be the why of me doing so damn much riding with 3 people-me myself and I.  I try my damndest to do my ride.  I've been with my share of(insert yer description HERE)folks that believe/think/don't care about hitting the brakes in a curve already leaned over.  RIDE SAFE.

It has been my experience with most HD riders that they consider going 30 miles in town or down the hwy from one bar to another a good ride. I will ride 200 to 250 miles and try to stay off the hwy and get home wishing I had more time to ride. 

Considering that I have some of the best riding in the USA with in 30 min from my house you would think that there would be a lot of people that love riding and could ride well in this area but so far I have only meat a few.

I have noticed a lot of that in HD riders. To be fair though, there is a buttload of them in this area so the law of averages says that if you are going to see something done badly, it will be a HD more than likely.  Had one last week. Hammer down at the light where it was 2 lane to get out in front. I figured "WEEE, I'll zip up behind him because it looks like I will get to make decent time." (was 4 cars back) Got to the top of the hill where it choked down to one lane and started to curve, and I became float #2 in the parade. 10-15 under in EVERYTHING that wasn't a straightaway.

The wife will back off  going into curves on the Aero, though not to extremes so I can say that it ISN'T only HD riders. Sure feels like it though when it is a pleasant suprise when you get behind one that will lean though.

The road I have to take to go anywhere is far from straight, and if you can't hit a curve at the posted speed limit, you are not going to go very far very quickly.

No joke, I passed 2 HD's last week to work on my scoot.  2 huge guy/girl on separate bikes younger than me going like 57 mph in a 55.  I hammered down as best as I could and waved as I went by. 

Seriously,  I have driven with 2-3 Valk riders who have and can easily whoop me in the corners and straightaways no doubt about it even if I tried to keep up they would still win.  I just don't feel like riding 55 mph thru a 30 mph curve in the road since there seems to be always gravel in the middle of roads more often than not.  I've only scrapped pegs a few times in 5 years but taking an easy for the most part is the way I ENJOY riding.  That being said, I haven't seen or been with a HD that I couldn't keep up with, but I am sure they are out there no doubt.

some great HD riders near me, some are MSF instructors, one friend wins top gun every time he takes the exp rider course again

Some of the gang HD will take the turn on 9A going down the hill (where the memorial cross is) at double the speed limit and the same with the bottom of the hill  

The majority I can keep up no trouble as I know the roads really well around these parts
and when I am comfortable I will go faster

It is really irritating that every weekend some crotch rocket or HD rider will zip splat on the goat trail, shutting it down and usually seriously injuring or  killing himself or a passenger. The same on the Taconic

PLEASE DONT PASS ON DOUBLE YELLOWS CURVES it just aint worth it unless you have unobstructed views and the power and skill to get back on your side if a truck car or motorcycle is coming

I agree with the law of averages...

I have an HD buddy that goes 400 lb, and has a stock Road King, and a stock Ultra Classic.  I can out drag race him, but he scares me in the twisties.  And SOME of you guys know... I ain't afraid of the twisties.  I ain't CRAZY, but I ain't a skeerdy-Cat neither.  Same guy has a ZX 1100 that he ain't afeared of throwing into a corner too.  His 70 year old dad rides an 1100 Blackbird with over 100K on the ticker... and he rides it A LOT.

And I have a pal with a 160+ HP low rider Sport with a 124" motor that'll suck the chrome off my Valks in a straight away... but not corner worth a damn. 

Just be careful judging based on brand...

I wasnt judging his riding by his brand .( I still think his skills were lacking .)I judged his brand by my opinion of how I think they handle as compared to the Valk , which is what I'm used to riding . I dont like the way Vtwins handle , they are too top heavy . His Harley ceased being a harley when he put a 124" aftermarket motor on it . Then it became a custom .So that isnt the same . If I honky'd a 124 Vtwin to my valk it wouldnt be a Valk . My initial post only meant that his skills couldnt keep up with his bike . I was amazed at the HD police bike video going thru the cone maze at warp speed I saw recently . Its all what you are used to .

My quip wasn't aimed at you Regis... but rather the club as a whole.  Generalizations are OK IMO, as they are based on thruths, and the preponderance of the evidence.  But to make a judgement, that could cost you money, face, or a riding buddy due to brand would be a mistake, again IMHO.

No i'm good , I also just wanted to point out that it wasnt aimed at brand . Mainly it falls under the midlife crisis " I always wanted a HD " category . Seems like its young sportbike riders or the MLC riders that crash and burn .

On the other hand, I passed a real pretty black vrod at a intersection. He came out and hung right with me at average speeds not doing anything stupid or amazing, just riding. Stuck there when we hit the highway for a wile until I had to get off.

I could get to like that vrod at least for looks.

this seems like a good place to tell one of my stories.
many years ago i was going to wings over the smokies in n.c.
a friend and i rented a motel room right off the blue ridge after riding about 850 miles and this guy on a fat boy pulled up beside us and of course we got into conversation,, he looked beat to death and told us he was on a long ride that day..he had done 86 miles on the blue ridge was ready for bed,,, i looked at Bob and he looked at me and it took all we had to keep from busting out laffing.. we just went inside and rented a room...
