B-17s, great airplanes. Its nice to see folks keeping them in the air. I've spent a fair amount of time in and around Fuddy Duddy.

I live about 17 miles north of Bolton Field, which is in Columbus Ohio. Last Saturday we saw the B17 fly over our property. What a beautiful sight seeing her fly in the clear blue sky.

Got to view and tour "Sentimental Journey" about 5 years ago at Montrose Regional Airport on a clear, sunny day and saw her take off and land.
What a bird!  What a testament to America at her best when challenged to be her best.
We should have learned from the greatest generation...what happened to us?

Still, I am proud to have been a ball-turret gunner in my previous life.  What courage from those young men to board, fly, and fight for our freedom.   Some gave all.

God Bless America. ;)

Sooooooo.... has this thread prompted to get anyone to go to the show today or tomorrow??? :coolsmiley:

I beleive it is a car show this weekend also.... so even the car lovers get a treat... a double show for those that are into cars AND planes.

I think it will still be there Sunday.

It arrives in Savannah on Monday.

You might want to check these 2 web sites for the schedules of the air shows for the rest of the year.  Hope this helps.  The Gulf coast Wing is only scheduled thru Aug so far.

 :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2:  Man what a thrill I had yesterday!!!!
There was in excess of 450 bikes that came from Pikeville to Lexington to ride in the Christmas in July ride for the Shriners Hospital. It began with about 250 leaving Pikeville and we ran into rain just out of a 35 mile start. Rain ended after a 15 minute ride in Salyersville and the sun finally came thru for the rest of the day. The riders stopped off at Natural Bridge State park to pick up other riders and the Lexington Motor Police escorted us thru the remainder into Lexington. Those men and ladies did an exceptional job keeping the traffic away from the group and it was great.
As we turned on Richmond Road toward the Shriners Hospital, what should be flying overhead---THE B-17.  That was a real thrill as I had seen one in a museum, BUT to actually have one escorting us into the hospital made the 200 mile trip OUTSTANDING !!! When we got parked for our tour, the B-17 was sighted several times flying overhead as it was exciting seeing it come over it and the group  as the airport was along the flightpath.  That made my day  !!!!
The ride home back east was fun until we crossed into Wolfe County and the heavens opened up with about 2 inches of rain falling on the 40 or so bikes in our group all the way back east.  70 miles of rain pouring and pelting everyone and guess who only had a mesh jacket.  ME    Great ride though as I had the only Valkyrie in the group and lots of admiring h-d riders who had never seen a Valk especially a Green/Silver trike.

Liberty Bell

A number of years ago... The (then) wife and I were coming back across Ohio enjoying a nice summer day with the windows down, when she looked at me and ask, "What's Wrong?"

I looked at her and said, "If I didn't know better I'd swear that's a B-17 I hear..."

"What's a B-17? (That probably should have clued me in right there that she WASN'T the right girl)?"

" A WWII Bomber, there are only a handful left in flying condition, it can't be...."
[All the time the sound is getting LOUDER and Louder...}

About that time, she broke out over the trees and crossed the road right in front of us..... Engines roaring..... Beautiful sight... I think it was "Sentimental Journey" making her way back from a weekend airshow and she was taking off from where she had gassed up.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the expectation of arriving in one pretty, well preserved piece but, to be skidded into broadside at full speed, battered, bruised, and thoroughly used up, having poked the grim reaper in the eye shouting "GERONIMO"
