1997 GL1500C Valkyrie Headlight - Australian model

I have a 1997 GL1500C - the Australian model.

The thin insert rim on my headlight is damaged, but i cannot locate the part number for a replacement. I purchased the large front rim (Part No. 33101-MZ0-671) thinking it might come with it, but it didn't.

I have attached a link to a headlight that includes this part. You may have to scroll through the images. It is referred to as the "dust cover" I think.

Without it, there is a 1/8 - 1/4 inch gap between the light and the rim.

Any ideas?

Thanks, but the part doesn't appear in that diagram, nor in any other diagrams i can find.

I couldn't find any reference anywhere to that dust ring. I wonder if you have a stock headlight, or have an aftermarket one. My guess would be that what you have is aftermarket that comes with an adapter ring. I don't have a standard or tourer so I'm just guessing

I definitely have a stock headlight. I ordered the larger rim (part number above) as it was damaged also.

YOUR DIAGRAM SAYS THAT LIGHT FITS ALL VALKYRIES .... THAT KINDA SAYS AFTERMARKET TO ME .... PART #:  33120 - MBY - 671 LOOKS LIKE IT HAS THAT RING ON IT.

I also have an E mark on European F6C, but i dont see any dust cover between the headlight shell and the ring with the lens.

Thanks for your response. There is no Australian model on that site, but it's useful nonetheless.

My VIN is 1HFSC34U

I think it's the "U" that designates Australia.

The manufacture date is 3/97.

Does not look like a stock headlight.
What numbers or name is there cast into the lens? Cannot make it out clearly in the pic.
May know where this another 97 headlight I can check to see what the set up is.

I think there might be a bit of confusion. The link in the first post is not my light, but it is the only place i could find an image of the dust ring i am looking for. My headlight is definitely a Honda original - i ordered the main ring from Honda Direct, and, of course it fits perfectly. I just cannot seem to find the piece i need - i had one, but it was damaged.

Anyway, if you could have a look at the one you mentioned, i would appreciate it.

I looked at the HDL site and there wasn't any "U" designations.
Maybe a phone call to them would help.

OK, had a look at my 2001, the ring on that is part of the headlight. Will ask after the 97 and see what I can find but suspect it will be the same, you will need to order the headlight itself ( the lens section)

US$76 plus shipping from the States.
Checked and it is part of the headlight lens assembly, must have been knocked loose when it was damaged.
Pinwall may have a complete assembly for a slightly better price.

Check the salvage yards an Australia. There might be one in good condition. Also some people put the VTX headlight on the Valk.

According to http://www.valkyrienorway.com/SerialNumbersStandard.html only 160 GL1500C models made it to Australia in the four years 97 to 00.

I'm not sure if that's right, because another site says 1500 units came here and to the UK, but there is no further breakdown of numbers. Only 6590 made it out of the USA in 5 years (97-01).

Whatever the number, their ain't many here, and they sure turn heads. I've never seen or been able to find a wreck.

They are rarely on the market, and are generally over-priced because of their rarity.

I think i might try to call Honda Direct and shmooze them. Failing that, i will look at the VTX or perhaps biting the bullet and buying a new lamp.

Is it the little rubber piece that fits in the holding plate for the headlight?

Mine deteriorated many moons ago and I added some duct tape and went on my way.

Rumpole,  like others have said the ring is part of the headlight. A google search of the part number 33120-MBH-671 shows the ring attached.

You could also do a search for wrecked  Honda SHADOW AERO - VT1100C3 as it uses the same lens.

The ring is purely decorative and doesn't affect the function of the headlight.  Unless it drives you crazy, I would try and find a busted light to strip the ring off.

If you like I took a couple of photo's you can copy and use in your search.






Try a wanted to buy in the classifieds or a post on the general board.

OK, I'm kind of cheap and look for alternatives to make certain parts.  Looking at the top picture it looks similar to the chrome edge that you put on auto doors.  Some of the members here have used it on the edge of their gas tanks or fenders.
It's flexible enough to form a circle that you could attach with 3-M tape.
Just a thought and quite a cheap fix.

If you can find a part I know of a gentleman that is coming to America in a couple weeks and I can check with his friends if he would be willing to take the part back with him, I believe he lives north of Sydney..maybe Brisbane????  IF you would like me to check into this possibility, Let me know.

I haven't mentioned his name because he sent me a PM. If he wanted it known I expect he would have put it on this Board.

I'd imagine the speedo is in Kilometers but how else?
Are the handlebars on the opposite side??

Yep throttle and brake are on the left too. takes a bit of getting used too especially when dodging Drop Bears.
