Camping in a wash

Rule #1 for AZ camping. Never set up camp in a wash, even in the dry season. Here's a video taken in Southern Utah.

at the end of the video, there's a lady running, taking video of the debris as it comes towards her, now, did she give any thought of "what if I trip?"  there's no way of stopping that sludge!!  and once you get wrapped up in it, you'll blend right in!!

  Went up to Yucca Valley/Joshua Tree today to help out with my work.  about 40 - 45 mi. from desert floor to about 3300' elevation through a pass on hwy 62.  Heavy rain in desert today and flooded roads with mudslides.  Power poles washed out and fell into road along with mudslides across road closing only way down out of mtns.  So . . . my 45 mi return home turned into 170 miles around mtns for trip home.  PITA after a long day at work.

 Desert landscape can't handle much rain.

That's what always amazed me about Gilbert Road where it crosses the Salt River.  There's no bridge, they just paved the road across the river bed.  Every 5 or 6 years they have to repave it, but I guess that's cheaper than building a bridge.

  Clean up after flooding 2 blocks from my house yesterday with heavy desert rain. I live right up adjacent to mtns in desert.  great hiking.  not so good for heavy rain.  but we only get 4-5 inches per year normally.  1-2 inches in 30 minutes yesterday and just ran right off mtns with rocks, dirt, etc.
