Motorcycle Parking

In Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, where we head every weekend, the Fleet Farm has reserved Motorcycle Parking. It's the only chain store I've seen that at. I can't believe Wally World, who has reserved spots for just about everything else, doesn't have motorcycle parking.

after some hot days this last summer, and my cycle leaning cause my kick stand melted into the asphalt, we now have a designated cycle parking spot by the entry door!!  there are 6 spots for the three guys that ride to work everyday, pluss we have 12" stainless steel disks to put the stand down on!!  although my boss is a big harley rider, he's never once ridden to work on his bike!!

Brandon town center has reserved motorcycle parking, each row on the ends near the entrance have several spaces, nice they are under small trees, nice to have shade also.

I lost a visor while on a ride and stopped at that Fleet Farm to pick up a new one.  Didn't see the cycle parking though.
Actually the ice cream shop where I took the picture had stainless steel plates around several years ago.  Damn bikers probably stole them.

Wally World does have reserved spots for motorcycles, well actually for men or men on motorcycles.  It's called the back of the store, where the automotive section is, right close to sporting goods and hardware.  That's where most of us go and park when we need to get oil or ammo.... try it sometime, you get in, and get out without having to see much of the zoo.... unless you want to venture in further that is.... but I highly recommend you get your ammo first.    


Oh and it's just not marked.... because we are smart enough to know that and it helps keep the rif raf outta those spots.

Now you got me thinking.  I'm guess I'll have to run out there and check things out.   
I'll have to have desert while I'm out there.    WOO-HOO!!

Although totally illegal, I routinely see at local shopping places like walmart, shopko, and even farm and fleet cycles park right outside the doors to the side mere feet within the door entrances. 

I think somewhere on youtube I have seen a HD rider park directly in front of the local gas station thinkin he owned it or something and caused a huge rif amongst other shoppers.  I have seen it as well in person one doing the same thing right in front of the door at a gas station this past summer and if my kids were not with me, I'd ask him if he was the owner or something.

Most are HD's and they think they are bad _sses and own the world thinking they are showing off their ride and look cool?  Sort of ticks me off especially if a lot of traffic in and out of the stores.  They are just asking for trouble as well since a minor ding could easily happen on their precious cycles. 

As far as work, it is nice for me usually get a spot right in front since 1-2 HD guys are usually there 5-10 minutes before me and I can share a single angled parking spot if they happen to pull up far enough to get my bike angled to the side behind them in same stall.  Only another month or possible 2 of riding season though until the snow flies end of November darn it.

For shopping, I make sure I'm not anywhere NEAR a handicapped spot (Not even in the areas between handicapped spots) and that I won't get in anyone's way, and then just park whereever I can. Usually to the side of the entrance, especially at Home Depot or Wally Mart.

I had one lady come up to me once and ask why I thought I was special and didn't need to park in a normal spot. I just asked her (Politely and calmly) if she'd prefer I did, and took up one more spot that she couldn't park her car in, or would she prefer I leave that last good car parking space for her and park over here outta the way... She mumbled something and wandered away...

As far as work goes, Caterpillar has always been pretty good to us cycle riders. They have motorcyle parking that will accomodate about 50 bikes-located just beyond the hsndicapped spots. They even had kickstand plates out until last year. They then tore up the entire lot and made the motorcycle only lot cement.. Don't need the plates anymore.
