Lesson For Republicans:

* U.S. Tax revenue:         $     2,170,000,000,000.00

* Fed budget:                   $    3,820,000,000,000.00

* New debt:                      $    1,650,000,000,000.00

* National debt:                $   16,271,000,000,000.00

* Recent budget cuts:      $          38,500,000,000.00

Now For The Average Joe Let's now remove 8 zeros and pretend it's a household budget:

* Annual family income:                                          $ 21,700.00

* Money the family spent:                                       $ 38,200.00

* New debt on the credit card:                                $ 16,500.00

* Outstanding balance on the credit card:              $ 162,710.00

* Total budget cuts so far:                                          $ 385.00

Lesson For Democrats :

Here's another way to look at the Debt Ceiling:

Let's say, You come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood....and your home has sewage all the way up to your ceilings.

What do you think you should do ...... Raise the ceilings, or Remove the crap?

Here is the deal.  It is obvious to both Democrats and Republicans that we need to balance the budget.  It is not that the Democrats think "who cares" that we are spending more than we take in.  The difference lies in the methods to accomplish this.  Firstly, you don't threaten to not pay the bills you have already incurred, since we want to keep our good name and our good credit.  The Constitution states:  The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.  So stop questioning what has already been spent, and lets focus on cutting further spending.

This is where the main difference lies between the two parties.  Democrats feel that to reduce the deficit we need to close tax loopholes, raise taxes on the wealthiest (that are paying a lower rate than the rest), cut subsidies to big business, and reduce defense spending.  Republicans feel that what we need to cut is assistance to the poor, sick, women and children, and to the elderly.  The disparity in ideas on how to cut the deficit (not whether it needs to be cut) is the reason why there has been no budget agreed upon.

The Democrats are pretty united in defending the social safety net.  The Republicans are pretty united in defending military spending, tax cuts, and corporate subsidies.

I know many of you think I personally just hate Republicans, and that is not so.  I think pretty much all of us want our country to be well protected, and successful.  We want our children to grow up to be healthy contributors to society, we want them to have the opportunity to do better than us.  We have different ideas on how to accomplish this.  Furthermore, the premise of the original post, that Republicans are smarter than the average Joe, and Democrats are somehow less intelligent isn't funny, nor does it further the cause of getting together and agreeing on something.

Saying that all Democrats are dumb, lazy, drug users that are hell bent on destroying America as we know it because they think the government is the solution to all their problems, and that Democratic leaders are some sort of savior or messiah in their minds is just about as ridiculous as saying that all Republicans are dumb angry old white men, that are selfish, and shortsighted, intent on destroying the environment while only looking out for the interests of big business and the wealthy.

you fell for it too! we can service the debt with revenues collected month to month.

is this true or not?   8)  it is certainly a difference in what the spending  priorities need to be... :roll:

a simple question is ARE WE SPENDING BEYOND OUR MEANS? short term no, long term hells yeah....

not one of us has said we need to cut the help to those that need it. I'm sick of the inference that we don't give a crap about the poor! please make a note of it. :roll:

you will find some not many republicans are all for cutting funding to the pentagon, we would like to be recognized as conservatives. glenn beck would like to see cuts made to the pentagon, think any better of him?

there are many misconceptions about both sides of the aisle.

saying all dems want to take your guns is one.

saying all repubs want the poor to have no social programs is another......

To reduce the deficit without cutting as much spending the government needs to increase revenue.  This of course will be through taxes.  Either higher rates, or the economy doing better and the government getting more tax money through more sales and earnings.  Can the US make interest only payments based on it's income?  Sure, if it cuts services that it currently renders while continuing to borrow.

You do see most conservatives talk about cutting welfare, food assistance, medicaid, privatizing social security etc.  Cutting these programs do affect the poor, the hungry women and children, the sick and the elderly.  Cutting these programs do not affect services available to people not in those categories.

I LOVE IT!!  THAT'S FUNNY!!

daddi-0, you're such an idiot. (don't mean to call you that, but i'll call a spade a spade.)

I've got a brother that's a liberal democrat, just like you.

he's had his house foreclosed on twice, one time my father actually paid twenty grand to bail him out, another time my father paid off his jeep so that they'd be able to make payments on their mortgage all for nothing, the bank took it anyway.  my father's now dead, my brother has asked me for money to help bail him out, so, do you think I should?  (do you think I care?)

see, the SIMPLE math is, if you don't have the money, YOU SHOULDN'T SPEND IT!!

sure, i'd love to drive a Ferrari, but guess what, I want to see my children living secure happy lives where they don't have to worry about paying off "my" Ferrari!!  does that make any sense to you? why should "I" get the Ferrari, while my children have to pay for it?  you must not have any kids, either that or you must not care about the debt you're leaving them!!  maybe you don't care about debt?  maybe that; "devil may care" attitude is part of your upbringing?  but when that attitude increases MY taxes, THEN IT EFFECTS ME!

every loving parent wants to see their children do better then them.  I want a better future for my children, and seeing the debt that has been building in this country is the worst thing we can leave them.

I don't know about you, but, living with the thought of owing anyone money makes me feel insecure and enslaved.  the greatest freedom anyone can ever have is NOT owing anyone anything!!  the philosophy of the democrats has enslaved our great grandchildren.  how do you feel about that?  or, does their freedom mean nothing to you?

the simple fact that we want to tell the democrats is;
LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS!!
Promote world peace, ban all religion.

OMG ! I'm now convinced. I guess I've always been a democrat.

I don't want to take away services from the poor, sick and elderly. I just want there to be a lot fewer poor, sick and elderly on government assistance. Democrats are actively seeking people to put on government assistance, Republicans are actively seeking ways to get people OFF of government assistance. "ALL Republicans" do not want to do anything bad to poor sick and elderly. Just as "ALL DEMOCRATS" do not want to take your gun.

DaddieO well if you do understand and Democrat's do want to balance the budget why in a time of economic chaos and need, for most did we just add trillions to the deficit in the form of health care for all those that don't have it. Raise the premium for those that do, extend unemployment benefits, make it so those that quit jobs have unemployment benefits and exteneded the time allowed, extend health care and benefits to illegals and open parks for them so we could have illegals demonstrating in the streets? Have girls who get pregnant and have no money now we pay for them to have a child. Not to mention pay for that child once its born. Also handing trillions in TARP funds to those who didn't need it and the ones who are loosing their houses regardless of fault we haven't done a dam thing. This also flies in the face of the Feds printing money so fast as to devalue the dollar so not only are they trying to prop up the dollar but also devaluating it so now our buying power for what ever we purchase costs us much more. So if you could explain how the Democrats are supporting this country and actively erasing the deficits through these expenditures in a positive way I would sign on. I can give many more examples along with the Democrats concentrating on limiting our soft drink consumption and gun confiscation and loosing 25 million in the activation of health care but but forget how to supply jobs and good working conditions for the US.

Not that it will make much of a difference in the opinions of the VRCC, but I will address what you have said.  The ACA is costing an initial expenditure, true, but the CBO has estimated it will reduce the deficit in the long run.  Again, reduce the deficit.  We see healthcare as a right guaranteed under the Constitution, not a privilege.  We do not see the value in the sick or injured having unequal access to life, since we believe in Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.  We see the value of extending unemployment benefits to workers that have lost their job due to it being shipped overseas so that corporations can stuff more profit into their coffers while they hide the profits in overseas tax shelters.  We realize that the Republican president left the economy in shambles, and can see it as an extenuating circumstance for those that lost their jobs.  The ACA does not cover "illegals", even though it is impossible for a person to be illegal, only an action can be illegal.  Overstaying a visa is not a criminal offense by the way, it is a civil matter.  Democrats are having girls get pregnant?  That's kind of a stretch dontcha think?  Oh you mean assisting them financially in order to take care of the newborn?  Are you suggesting no support for newborns?  Losing your house regardless of fault?  You only lose your house if you don't pay what you agreed to pay for you house.  Suddenly you don't care about personal responsibility?  You want to quote TARP of all things as proof of Democrat's irresponsibility?  You realize the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) is a program of the United States government to purchase assets and equity from financial institutions to strengthen its financial sector that was signed into law by U.S. President George W. Bush on October 3, 2008 right?

You probably wouldn't need to cut programs or increase taxes if there was a serious effort to curb waste and fraud from the existing programs.  Neither side are good stewards of our money.  If the bucket is leaking, the solution is to fix the bucket not pour water in faster.

So, almost everything is a "right"?

We have a "right" to food, health, housing right now?

I say you have NO RIGHT to any of those.  To have a right, means that "we" have to provide all of this for you, if you are too lazy to get it on your own.

Why should anyone work for their stuff, if it is a "right", and it MUST be GIVEN to you?

I feel starvation is a good motivator.  I am more than willing to help any old, or disabled, person.  However, I see LOTS of able bodied people, in line to get "goodies", and telling me how I "owe" them money and things.

I have reached a point in my life, where I say "screw you".  Get your own.

If a 18 year old girl is going on her third child by three fathers, that is a choice.  Seems like libs are all for "choice".

Why do I need to pay for everything for her and her babies, when "daddy" is no where to be found?  Used to be one took responsibility for ones own actions.  Not now.  Now, "YOU OWE ME".

This comes thru loud and clear in your post.  How we owe everyone, because it is their "right".

You have a right to work, you have a right to opportunity, NOT to outcome.  I owe you NOTHING.  Why do you think you have a "right" to the fruits of my labor, time, and life?

My daughter works hard at a job.  Her live in boyfriend does not work.  Worked one week in the last year.  Collects money from all of us.  He is a Democrat.  Surprise!  Able bodied, 28 year old.  As far as I am concerned, we do not "OWE" him a penny!  STARVE!

But, people like you say he has a "right" to our money.  BS!  He, and others like him, should starve.  Cleans out the gene pool.

Daddie I think I understand more through your reply now. Idealism is great and extending a helping hand is great but so is personal responsibility. By ACA do you mean O care? Because it is just the opposite of what you have said its costing now with a slight bump in reducing the deficit now but every year from then to 2025 it totally bankrupts the US. If you could find where healthcare is a right and driving is not then I would be interested. Because the gov says driving is not a right but a privledge. I would like to hear more about these rights and what we are doing to secure them because it sure looks as though we are loosing rights in favor of socialsim. As also for right or privelge we all have access to the same healthcare, which is our right, but as we can afford to pay. We should not demand someone else to pay for our healthcare that is socialism. O care does cover illegals and we do have people who are illeagal. One example of people being illegal is rights taken away from people through felonies and people that never get their rights back. So people by Gods sight are not illeagal, but through others and the law they are which in itself speaks volumes about the hypocrisy of the people in gov. Again lofty ideals that only God can trully give. Your ideal is not a belief by the goverment now, otherwise they would abide by the same laws and rules as the rest of us. They sadly do not and they would also look as our founders did that all were important. The other thing they would do is stick to the Constitution as a rule of law for all to live by. Even the law makers in California did not uphold their office in the enforcement of the peoples vote on gay marrage (Prop 8)a direct conflict of their oath in office regardless of how you feel about the vote taken or the issue itself. Just as O has trampled the Constitution in his dealings. I did not say Democrates got girls pregnant I said we have to pay for the dr's care for unwed mothers who cannot support themeselves. As for TARP the Congress voted against TARP but the very next day through pressure of the O administration approved it. Not to mention the O administration supervision of who got the money was criminal. So It may have been Bush who signed it but it still was O that got it pushed through just like health care. I dont lke the unfairness of the system and also the taking of money from those who earned it and giving it to those who make bad decsions in life and should pay the consequences by the goverment. Goverment has never been good at this and should confine itself to its goals at creation. The protection of the US and its citizens.

wrong, you increase revenues by having more tax payers, which means we need more people working.
you do see most conservatives talk about cutting waste fraud and abuse in the social programs, not kicking grandma off medacaid. nice try though.....

We send Billions of $$$ to foreign countries.     Some of these countries hate our guts anyway, so how about cutting what we send to them.

Also restrict the use of Air Force One.      Like NO MORE flying to Golf Courses just so da man can say he played there.      If he wants to fly there, then he come up with the $$$$ for his protection and all the plane tickets and fuel to get them there and back.

That would cut a huge amount of $$$$'s.

I'd like to have access to a plane to fly to Golf Courses all over that I have never swung a club on.       My golfing got so expensive I gave it up.    I now play a round of gold every 3rd week at the course that is 3/4 mile from my house.    Used to walk it, but with the O2 bottle I now rent a cart.

Pappy!

It has been my understanding (to date) that just about anytime the Democrats have increased taxes to "pay down the debt" or "balance the budget" they have ended up buying more votes with it instead. This naturally leaves a larger deficit and creates a new need to raise taxes (to balance the budget again) of course.......

This is the hidden danger of O Care, it is designed as another tax that once gets established will make the Government the sole provider and the public hemmorage money to it.  Once the money starts rolling in Our glorious leaders wont be able to resist and ever try to do anything about it.  Did you ever see a temporary tax even in local governments that didnt end up a perminant fixture.  There is no such thing.   Was at a local election today that had 3 different millages up for renewal, they have been temorary for at least 20 years, and have increased over the years.  How much tax is enough???   Powers that be seem to think anything below 100% is fair game, and you dont really own anything anyway, the Government owns it all, and just letting you use it.

That is the problem with raising taxes.  The gov't ALWAYS spends more than it takes in.  The ONLY way to reduce the deficit , is to lower income.  Forcing choices on spending.
