  He's very lucky! 

       The elk's antlers, although young, could easily have caused great bodily harm.

     Not sure if the photographer was brave or stupid.  ???

Paul, my next door lady showed me some very close pics of elk that she had taken a week ago in the same area. She and another couple were very enthusiastic about it. One pic was taken from no more than 10 feet away from a bull elk with a Huge rack! All were taken by walking up to the elk!

I told her that no wild animal is to be trusted, especially ones that have been exposed to humans and their cameras.

he may have been inviting the young bull to head butt by lowering his head. the young'un may have interpreted that as a challenge.    not sure tho.

that elk outweighed him by about 3 to 1 I'm guessing.

Last time I checked they are called "wild" animals fer a damn good reason. Had a pointy end of that rack gone up his nostril or into his eye we would have had a VERY different story.  I'm not gonna do any name calling here but it was Red Foreman's favorite expression.  RIDE SAFE.

I used to do quite a bite of hunting and been very close to various game ............... but that was just plain dumb, especially in the rut season!!!

Zoom lenses bring the game to you, there is no need to get that close.

The spectator's were just as dumb!

Yes just saw this on the local news... They killed the elk in the video.

They killed a young Elk because his hormones were raging ! Isn't it that time of year ?  In a month he wouldn't be a problem. Seems like they're making a lot about nothing. The loss of an Elk is no big deal, but, this just hits me wrong. I hope someone gets to take it home though, thats some good eating. I guess I'm glad no one decided to shoot me when I was a hormone ravaged teenager.

   I had a few threats when i was in high school from some dads. im sure the meat will be donated to a shelter or something like that. I agree that it was wrong to kill the elk. The guy should have been thrown in jail for disturbing wildlife and at least catch the elk and tag it so if it happened again they would know it was the same one and then kill it.

Apparently you didn't bother to read the follow up story.   

Honestly there are still plenty of elk left in the world and most of them will not approach a human being, at least not repeatedly.  I probably stand in a place not shared by many.  My view is that humans rank higher in importance than do other anilmals most especially when it comes to matters of protection.  Elk? Elk are good edible content waiting to be consumed.

The photographer did not approach the beast, despite the assumptions of some of us that are less than adequately informed.
