Just got off my first real ride of a Valk, and,,,,

 I have a question .

I noticed a ringing like noise when rolled on in 5th gear from 45 ish mph.

Is this due to straight cut gears errrr what.

This bike has 6 into 6 pipes (with baffles) n' the noise drowned out the exhaust note...   

I was riding without ear plugs, with an open face shield, to really listen,,,,, to the bikes sounds..

This is not,, my bike,,,, n' has 10K on it.

Just rode it to try n' see what to expect in a few days,,, when I pick up my bike...

Make damn sure there are NO L E Os around when you try this. Somewhere in the 65-75 M P H range in 5th gear-take the throttle grip and try to twist it off!! And to those of us that have had these for awhile-the noises she makes let us know she is alive! Have the big chit eatin grins started with that short ride???????????  They should have but if not they WILL!!  I've put a little over 49000 miles on mine since I've had it and she still makes me grin!!  RIDE SAFE.

30 mph in second gear, go WFO, shift at 6200 rpm,keeping WFO, when you get to 100 mph, you will be shift to 5th gear as the mph crosses 100, if you redline in 5th, you will be in the vicinity of 125 mph.  That is the bet way I can accelerate fast.  Did I mention this happens quickly? Gotta be on your toes to not miss a shift, and Hang on tight.     Did I mention this is a good way to race other bikes?  I never mastered taking off from a standing start, but I have the above down pat. I seldom red line in 5th gear, gettin to old for that.    Hoser

     Clutch engaged.

        Both feet gently touching the ground.

            Rev engine to 6000 rpm. 

              Hold on tight and pop the clutch.

Did that back in my early 50's  

Kinda slowed,,,,,,, a bit of late.

But ya,,, the adrenalin rush, was,,, something...

Bought the Valk to replace the ZX, gonna give it to my son...

Too old,,, n' fragile now, (hip replacement) for such foolishness....

I'll be 69 in Feb. 2014. I still like going fast-triple digits when in my mind anyway it appears safe. And yes I do realize someone may post a thread telling everyone here that I died in a high speed motorcycle crash. The one of many things bout me going out at anytime-some sumbitch that ain't worked for it gets what's left of my S S benefits!!  As long as i'm able to throw a leg over and git her up offin the side stand i'll be ridin.  Course way da gubmint goin might could be outlawed in my time.  I started at an early age on this high speed stuff and I still enjoy it.    I'm thinkin once you get used to the quirks of these fine machines you will be another convert. You guys are all nuts and shouldn't be driving. I'm going to turn 71 come January and must confess that I'm nuts also. Seems like my Valk only wants to push the limits. I've had my 02 at 135 on the speedometer along side an 1800cc VTX.  What a blast.

Just EXACTLY what it sounds like. From a dead stop rev the engine 4G 5G no brakes and dump the clutch-engage the clutch. Make damn sure the machine is pointed straight AND level and be prepared for extremely quick adjustments as they become needed. And this type of abuse is EXTREMELY hard on all the components of the driveline and mayhaps-expensive!!   RIDE SAFE.

Short version-yes. WITHOUT dumping the clutch. The first time Daughter and I were rolling N. on a non divided 4 lane in the right lane when a brain dead S O B decided at the last moment he needed to make a left onto another highway and I was behind him.  Loose gravel on the right so I waited fer brain dead and I was now back in 1st gear after the idiot FINALLY got hisself outin the way. Gentle roll on in first 20ish into second clutch fully engaged and I tried to twist the throttle off. As an old time moto cross guy I knew zackly what was happening when it happened-the front end came up-NOT a wheely but the front wheel was off the ground.  Somewhere on this board is a picture or a video of some one doing a wheely on a Valkyrie. And the first time the wheel came up on me I was already D/S. RIDE SAFE.

I would be north bound, crest the bridge at about a buck forty errr so,  Just in case there was any serious cross winds.

Then tuck n' nail it, n' hold it nailed fer about 1 1/2 miles.

On one occasion as I crested the bridge, I saw 1 lone tail light way off in da distance.

Turns out it was a guy on a harley bagger, went by him at 193 (gps 218 speedo).

I think some of dat solid stuff you mentioned,,, may have eminated,, from him???

Nope. back in da day I owned both a 00 ZX12 and  99 Hayabusa.

At the time there was much ta do bout which one,,, was faster.

Both bikes maxed out at da same  193 mph,, on da same,, gps, on da same bridge.

One speedo read 220, the other read 218..... I think,,,,,, da ''fix'' was in.

NOT knowing that much about these VERY FAST machines i'm guessin here with todays technology maybe electronic chip limited. Back when I was building and racing my own stuff some sort of limiting factor might have helped my wallet some what.  I've blown up a few engines with less than 1 ONE singular-1 hour on them.  Looking back though blowin up an engine or tranny(don't ask)was like a rite of passage.  RIODE SAFE.

These machines are so nicely balanced they just mostly chit and git.  AN UNDERSTANDING and SUPPORTIVE counter balance WILL help a LOT if you really wants ta git da front aireborn!!  THAT pic of the red and white proves ma point perzackly.  Course iffin ya wants her P Od at ya the rest of yer life-don't tell her what ya'll are about to embark on-ya just KNOW how some gals LOVE surprises!!  RIDE SAFE.
