Here is another Restaurant I WILL NEVER GO INTO.....

It seams Toby Keith's Restaurant in VA is not allowing guns to be carried in his establishment even though Virginia law allows it. I thought he was one of the good guys. Guess I was wrong. Chances are I will never make it to VA to go in the place but either way. I would not at this point, spend my money in a place that openly does not allow me my constitutional right to protect myself and those around me......

Woodbridge VA, is the next town just below me in NoVA.  Solid gun country there.

If this was in the inner city of Richmond I might understand (not agree, but understand).

Sounds like a lawyer advised liability limiting decision more than a political decision.

My politics would not let me ever eat there however..... and it's no doubt overpriced anyway.

sandy

AZ is an open carry state. You can even carry in a bar if you're not drinking. But every business owner has the right to ban firearms from their business. A sign has to be posted within some distance from each entrance. I wouldn't blame any owner from protecting himself from liability in case of a problem.

Funny thing is, liability is a two edged sword.

A)  Lawful CCW acts to defend self and others and hits someone's kid by accident.  Parent sues shooter and bar owner as culpable in allowing firearms carry in his business.

B)  Woman in Luby's restaurant in TX leaves lawful CCW pistol in car, and several are gunned down inside as no one was armed.  At the time, no carry was allowed under state law in that restaurant, but today, I could sue the owner for proscribing my otherwise lawful carry which could have prevented multiple deaths (if at least one of them was my family mbr).

Both theories have holes in them, but that never stopped a liability lawyer from rolling the dice to a jury.

I believe most of  "his" restaurants are actually owned by a restaurant company from Scottsdale, AZ.   They probably just pay him handsomely to use his name.

Now, the part about him being a big Sooners fan, there is no defending that.    :D

don't blame toby,  he probably has nothing to do with it.

If you feel you have to bring a CC into a restaurant to eat to defend yourself,  I wouldn't want to visit that unruly eating establishment either.

Just leave the darn firearms in the vehicle then, problem solved.

Flame suit on!  ;)

P.S.  - there are tons of stores both eating and shopping and places of employment that have signs posted no guns allowed.  Doesn't bother me one bit, but if it does you, then just don't visit them simple as that.

Here we go again...

How many times have you crashed your motorcycle in a way that you needed your helmet?

How many times have you crashed your car in a way that you needed your seat belt?

How many times has your house caught on fire so that you needed a fire extinguisher?

For me, the answer to those is none, but I wear a helmet, I wear a seat belt, I keep fire extinguishers on hand, and I carry a weapon, all for the same reasons.

Well said Serk.

I think the question should be: How many people have been robbed, stabbed, shot, mugged or carjacked and afterwards wished they had been able to protect themselves or their families?

Two mindsets here...those that consider "if" it happens and others "when" it happens.

The President of USCCA, Tim Schmidt, wrote a while back that he would rather pay the fine for carrying in an establishment that prohibits concealed carry vs. not have his weapon when he needs it.

In those states, it is against the law, if the building owner posts no guns.

Normally, they would not know.  But, SOMETIMES it shows, and you may be arrested.  Might get sick, and EMT would find, again, breaking the law.

Things happen, and you might be arrested for it.  Usually, no.

Knowing that you work in Kansas, the building you work in is breaking the law unless they have armed security with metal detecters at the entry, or been granted an extension to install the necessary equipment.   That is a new Kansas statute.  Hoser

I am not a hunter or a gun person, a gun to me is just s piece of machinery, that is all. It is the finger behind the trigger that concerns me. Another thing, I am not a good old boy, I was born without the sheep gene so I think for myself. I have nothing against hunting or guns.  First you give me examples of disasters concerning weapons and you come up with this "WHAT IF" Scenario.  If we could have been there we could have stopped it. I don't live in "WHAT IF" I deal with "WHAT IS". I was brought up in a environment of courtesy, respect, discipline, honor, and loyalty. As an example when I use to smoke, I never smoked in a restaurant, if I was at a bar and the person next to me didn't smoke I didn't smoke and also didn't smoke in peoples car or house. That is my choice and being  respectful and courtesy if I recall correctly, unless they changed the rules.  The thing that got my curiosity in this thread is because one could not walk into this restaurant with a cannon strapped to their leg they basically stomped out acting like Daddy's little girl because they couldn't have it their way, makes me a little concerned.
Maybe they had customer concerns about feeling comfortable when they are eating. You talk about, IF YOU WHERE THEIR YOU COULD...., May be we are talking to the next shooter dilemma.  Just because we own Valks doesn't we have clean hands. Most all my friends have weapons, but their some I feel should not own them, they act like fools, I feel uncomfortable around them when they have their guns around. RESPECT

Wow!  So much contradiction.  So little acceptable response.

That thinking for yourself works very well for some people.  For some it's of questionable value.

The living by "WHAT IS" rather than ""WHAT IF" is a grand policy only if we always know "WHAT IS".  Honestly, we all, including yourself, do in fact live our lives based at least partially on the "WHAT IF" while taking measures to update our information on "WHAT IS".

Respect.  I too try to live my life with a policy of respect.  It would never occur to me to refer to others as daddy's little girls simply because I disagreed with them.   I'm sure I could be caught occasionally in an exception.

Let's just leave it at agreeing to disagree.  If we ever meet remind me that I likely don't desire to eat in the same place that you choose.  I do, however, support to very few limits your right to decide, based upon almost any criteria, where you choose to eat or not to eat.

I do not remember anyone on this thread saying the restaurant could not do it.  They have a right, in that state, to do it.  However, do we not have a right to NOT eat at that restaurant?

If we choose to exercise our right to eat where we want, why then have we "stomped out acting like Daddy's little girl"?

I have been on a number of Valkyrie rides.  I know for a fact some of those riders carry.  I have NEVER seen a gun on a ride, but I know some are there, as they are everywhere, EXCEPT where no guns are allowed.

I have never had a single concern about ANY of those I am with.  In fact, since I seldom carry myself, I am GLAD they are there!

Since you do not do the "What If", and plan for the worst, what do you do?

Do you take warm clothes with you on a trip in the winter?  "What If "your car stalls?
Do you carry home fire insurance?  "What if" your home burned.
Do you wear a helmet?  "What if" you crash?
We do "What ifs" every day, all day long.

I see no difference in saying:  "What if" a killer walks into the restaurant, shopping mall, gas station, etc.

Lots of "I's" in that post. Ever consider it's not you that you have to worry about? I don't worry about my driving because I pay attention. Doesn't mean some nutcase isn't gonna T-Bone me at an intersection while texting on their phone. Courtesy and respect will get you zippo when someone threatens you or your family. I would imagine the scumbag that breaks into your house would be quite appreciative that you showed him the courtesy of not smoking while he ransacks your home with you and your family at gun point.

Here's a "WHAT IS" for you. WHAT IS real is there are people in this world that could give a damn about their lives and the lives of others. Failure to acknowledge that is a departure from your claim that you live in a "WHAT IS" world.

Sheep gene? Sorry but I don't get the metaphor nor the comparison. Most of the "good old boys" I know sheer their sheep and eat them when it's time.

This is one of the dumbest statements I have seen on here. Do you have fire insurance on your house? If so WHY? It will probable NEVER catch on fire, right? Do you drive with insurance. If so WHY? I carry a gun because you never know what might happen,so why not be prepared.

If you think stuff like this never happens you need to open your eyes. Why don't you ask Suzanna Gratia Hupp how she feels about being alowed to carry a gun in a restaurant. You see in 1991 she watched as a gunman drove through the window of Lubys cafe in Killeen TX  while she and her parents were there. Then proceded to shoot people. She watched as this then gunman killed both of her parents as well as 21 others while her gun was in her car because she was fallowing Texas law at the time. If she had her gun on her she MAY have been able to stop this guy from killing her loved ones or so many others.

I, too, live in a world of 'what if?' I wish that I had the luxury of living 'What is"   I wouldn't need to plan on anything; that would be very simplistic. Wow! the possibilities!

I wouldn't even need to wear protective clothes when I ride because I can wait until "what is'.

Like wise, I would depend on the police to protect me. Wow! again, what a concept.

Seriously, you should be very concerned about giving your opinions here wrapped up in 'polite'

I guess my point was to not blame toby keith since his name in on the restaurant, he probably has no clue.

If you drove their to eat and already there ready to walk in seeing the 'no gun' sign,  I wouldn't be so ticked off to turn around and go back in my vehicle to eat somewhere else.  I'm all for concealed carry and able to carry guns in cases in vehicles, just don't feel it is that big of a deal, at least the places I go to.    If I lived somewhere more violent than this small midwest hicktown,  I would probably change my mind though and feel more strongly about it I guess??

As far as MP commenting about whether I would prefer to have a gun on me with my wife and kids eating out somewhere after church on Sunday,  I wouldn't have to worry about that,  we never go to church - LOL   ;D   But, I get MP's point nonetheless.  :cooldude:

Now that was funny but funnier still because I think with you that its a real possibility that you really did it. thanks for the laugh.

As for the issue at hand I have posted below the link to Huff Post that answers many of the questions and comments here. Rather than not going to the restaurant how about writing a letter to Toby keith or the management of the chain. Simply not going does not really send a clear message.

"Some people see things that are and ask, Why? Some people dream of things that never were and ask, Why not? Some people have to go to work and don't have time for all that."

.

If it is true that an unfettered free market should be the norm to ensure solid economic growth, job creation, and the trickling down of prosperity from the top to the bottom, it seems to me that such a principle would be inviolate in all instances regardless of who agrees or disagrees to how far the rights of private business doing public commerce should extend.

Perhaps people on all sides of the political spectrum actually agree that the free market does need to have some restraints but we simply disagree on what those restraints should be.

solo1

The last that I knew companies have the right to set policy (except for discrimination, Yeah, right).

They have the right to ban guns on their property..  I have the right not to patronize such establishments.

The work place is different.  As an employee, you have no choice.

Serk

I'm binary. We need to either allow any restriction a business/property owner chooses (If a business wants to discriminate against gay couples, white people, black people, people with long hair, people who's left eyebrow is slightly bushier than their right eyebrow) they should be allowed to.

OR... If they CAN'T discriminate for some things, they shouldn't be allowed to discriminate for anything.

If a cake company can be forced with a gun to their head to bake a cake for someone they don't want to, then is it really hard to see why people on the right feel they're being targeted when a business CAN discriminate against someone legally carrying a firearm? (Source - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/06/colorado-baker-gay-ruling-_n_4401050.html )

IMHO, and my HO is worth exactly what you paid for it, we should remove all government restrictions, and speak with the market. If a business wants to discriminate against X (X being ANYTHING) that should be the business owner's decision, and let the market correct the wrongs, not the clumsy and destructive hand of government.

I am curious about few things, not trying to be a butt-head, just asking a question.  I try to understand the things people do, I am not without fault, so I try to understand. First question: Let say you go into a establishment to eat or otherwise, Is your weapon loaded and cocked ready to fire or for safety its not cocked.  Also the  ammo you are using, is it critical ammo or I call it, traditional TV ammo which I think it is target ammo.  I am not judging either way.

Alien

Do you really need a firearm to feel comfortable eating an overpriced cheeseburger?  Tell you what come over to my place, I'll grill up some burgers and charge you $15 each for them.  You can carry all the guns you want as long as you pay up.

My primary, .40 auto, has one chambered. Its not cocked and safety is not on. Just rooster it or pull the trigger.
Revolver is self explainitory.
My BUG, .380, sometimes my primary, is not chambered. It does not have a exteral hammer which I am not a fan of. From what I do while carring it I do not want it going off.

Do you really need a firearm to feel comfortable eating an overpriced cheeseburger?  Tell you what come over to my place, I'll grill up some burgers and charge you $15 each for them.  You can carry all the guns you want as long as you pay up.

Yes!  ;D Its so common place that I'd rather forget my inhalor then I would my firearm. :cooldude: I never set with my back to the door either and always know where a secondary egress is.

If the world was rainbows and unicorns then I would have a different view. But its reality.

Yes, I'd come over to your place for a burger and a beer. Depending what State you live in.  ;D I'm pretty sure I would be carring anyway.

100% agree with you Serk..................In a perfect world.

PC has replaced common sense.
I don't see how laws banning discrimination against race, sex, orientation, age could be considered PC.
