I hope this is OK with Staff, but when a company starts to make accessories for the Valkyrie again, it's news to share  ;)

There was a message waiting for me on my office phone, this morning when I got in.  'Chick' from RIVCO was calling to inform me that they are planning a new run of their Center Stands for our Valks  :cooldude:  (I have mine, but must have been on an old list).

Production time is expected to be about 6 months.  Those interested in getting on the list should call RIVCO at 888-801-8222, and let whoever answers know that you want one  ;)

I know there are some folks that have differing opinions on the safety of these units, but all I can say is that I've had mine for many years, and when installed following the directions, they are safe, and really help with things like maintainance, cleaning, and the dreaded flat rear tire on the road (away from floor jacks and adaptors).

Not affiliated, just a happy customer that wanted to share the news  :)

As best as I can recall.... this Center Stand does not work with those that installed the mounted jack/lift adapter that slides between the side stand and frame.   Just an FYI.....

Not sure how this helps with a flat rear tire.  Not having a Rivco, but having changed my tires many times, can you pull the wheel with help from the Rivco?  Do you pull the fender, remove the shocks, and use some sort of lever with support to lift the wheel/swingarm so the axle will clear the exhaust?  Or are you talking about just being able to rotate the tire for easy access to a nail/hole for plugging?  I've done that just by moving the bike.

Any idea about the cost of a new one?

I liked Centerstands on the old bikes and missed them once I got back into biking 10ish years ago.
I'd really like to get one for my Valk but don't want to spend an arm and leg! Which seems is what people are asking for them (maybe because their were not made anymore).
Remember, if you are on a bike and wreck with a car no matter how "in the right" you are you are going to lose. RIDE LIKE EVERBODY IS OUT TO GET YOU!!

Yes, you can.  I use the centerstand to pull my rear tire every 10K miles for maintenance.  On my interstate, I take off the saddlebags, rear 1/2 fender, saddlebag rails, then use a rachet strap through the wheel and over the frame rails.  Tighten the strap, remove the upper shock bolts and rear brake caliper stop bolt then rachet the wheel up as high as it will go to allow the axle nut and axle to be removed.  From there, slowly lower the wheel/tire to the ground and pull the wheel.

I have never been able to put the I/S up on the centerstand without first putting a 1½" thick board under the rear wheel first, just rolling the bike on it first, then using the centerstand.  No such issue with my Tourer - it pops right up.  With a flat, I would need to either find a strong backed person nearby or would inflate the tire as much as possible, put it on the board and then lift to the centerstand.

I know that Daniel Meyer uses a similar way to pull his rear wheel - I learned how to do this by watching him.

Does anyone happen to know if the centerstand will work with a belly tank?

My understanding is that it will NOT.

They were $450, bet this run is more than that. (and that does not include the grab rail, does it?)

However useful, a bike jack is way more useful.

To me, their real utility is only for breakdowns while on the road or long trips.

The Valk is pretty darn reliable, and a well maintained one before the trip, is almost bulletproof.

I have sold 3 used ones with left side rail only this past year all on ebay all over 450.00 plus shipping  2 of them went to poland

wobray

I just called CHICK and gave her a definite  " yes ". She says that they will go into production whenever they get 17 or so orders and at that time they will need a 100 dollar deposit.
She said that they will probably be about 450.00. Seems like a deal to me for what the stand allows us to do with our bikes.
I do like their products!!!

Are there any problems with draggin any part of the stand.   :coolsmiley:

Before the pegs would normally hit, for instance?  ???

If you want a center stand and think the price is too high.....nobody else makes one, so if you want one, that's what it'll cost ya.

SmokinJoe would tell you yes, but I'd think that would depend on how low you've got your Valk....and how much of a "spirited" rider you are.  Do you have shorter than OEM shocks on your Valk?

I have a question.......I'd think that the always on type of lift adapters would not be compatable with the RIVCO.....however, can you still utilize the Spoonlander style lift adapters (the kind that DON'T stay on the bike) with the RIVCO?

After putting on the center stand, I can't use my non-permanent lift adapter.  So that is a negative.

No, Grumpy showed me how to use some boards with the lift. Very easy and effective.

Are the grab rails going to be available also?

For those that have bought them before, how much were the grab rails?

Are both a right and a left side grab rail are available?

I read a post elsewhere from someone who got the same email. They stated you would get both grabrails in the price, which was to be 450.

I like my center stand and could change out a rear tire, as mentioned in an earlier post. And if I did pick up a nail or other item,
the center stand would allow me to spin the wheel easier and then use a Stop N Go plug. It's also nice for cleaning the rim, airing up the tire, etc.

I agree that with the Rivco, none of the traditional adapters will work...permanent type, Spoonland, etc.

I have the center stand, and have had it for years...  I use my non-perminant lift adaptor (red one that attaches with the 'L' bolts), with no issues.

I was lucky to have  a Rivco installed when I bought my Tourer in 2007.  It is the one thing I could not be without. I do ALL my maintance on the stand, no need for a bike lift.  I have a winch strap securing the stand on the other side which insures that I do not push the bike forward and off the stand while wrenching.   The front stand is of course home made. A small hydraulic jack is used to insert that.
Just my $.02.

That's the one I have...that's good news and the info I was looking for.  Needed to know it it will work with the center stand.

Since that lift adapter WILL work with the RIVCO center stand, I think that I'll get myself on the order list.

I'm 5' 10", and weigh 190 lbs wet.  I also have a Honda Shadow ACE Tourer VT1100T (think 626 lbs V-Twin little brother of the Valk' Tourer GL1500CT) with a Rivco center stand and it's really not so easy to get the ACE Tourer up on the center stand.

Can someone speak to the ease of getting a 715 lbs. Valk' Touer up on the Rivco Center Stand?

Sincerely curious,

Thanks in advance

Regarding the 'ease' of rolling our Fat Gurl's up on the center stand...

I'm 6'2", and tip the scales at 270...  That being said, I have no issue (a bit of a grunt) putting her on the center stand, and I don't use the provided grab rail.  I have Champion Hard Bags, and the Champion Crash Bars...  I stand along side the left of the bike, grab the left crash bar with my right hand, left handle bar with my left hand, and STAND on the deployment peg of the center stand, with my right foot, and lift with the right hand while pushing the deployment peg down, with my right foot...

My centerstand is now gone, but when I had it on MGM, I did a similiar raising of the Valk as Black Dog.

I grabbed the left handle bar, and the right saddlebag guard.

Did a slow roll back wards and stepped on the extension rod of the center stand.

It was kind of like clink clunk, it was up on the stand.

I'm like 5' 9" and 250# then.

My 6' 1" son used to fight it.   Tried to show him how to raise it and all I heard was swear words.

One day I grabbed Amber, his sweet little bride, she is 5' 6" and fully winter clothed and dripping wet runs in around 102#.

Showed her how to raise MGM and she popped it right up, I took it off of the stand by setting on the seat and rocking back and forth.   About the 2nd or 3rd rock MGM came down onto 2 wheels.

When I put my crossover pipe in my Viking Pipes, I had to take the center stand off.    I'd of had a jungle of pipe under there had I not done that.

Yeah RJ, years ago on other bikes, my trick to centerstand use was to have my hands on the grab parts, and to slow roll the bike backward a bit, before I stomped on the stand peg and lifted.  Takes a little bit of balance, but the inertia of the slow roll backward made all the difference.  (also 5'9" - 185)

Course you can drop a bike doing it...... so don't let it get away from you.

MacDragon

I've got the permanent lift adapter on mine... and a RIVCO Center stand in the garage that has never been installed with a left grab rail.  The spring has been lost, so I may call RIVCO to see what a spring would cost.  May sell it someday.  I don't have any intention of taking off the lift adapter.

Ride fast and take chances... uh, I mean... ride safe folks.
