Mark, one thing to help ya out is to buy shirts with no pockets.

I always carried my cigs in my chest pocket or my bib overalls center pocket.

Shirts were easy, buy new ones with no pockets.

Bibs were a little harder, so mom sewed the pockets on the bibs shut.

Yeah, I cussed and raised hell for a week or 2.

One day the wife was already in a bad mood, she told me to knock it off or get the F**k out of this house, & stay out.

DUH, didn't want to lose my man shed, so I shut up and I really never thought about a cigarette again.

Wife still smokes, but she does it outside.

NO one is allowed to smoke in the house, just like the ruling to take shoes off at the door.   Kids learned that early, so it never bothered them, but a couple of my buddies wanted to refuse.    Red grabbed her 14" iron skillet, banged it on the kitchen counter, this was before we built on, they took their shoes off and have every time they stopped by.

Mark, it is just a habit ya have to break.    If ya wait to firkin long you will get COPD, and then loose 50% of your lung capacity and require O2 to live.    Let me tell ya that sucks, cause I haven't been able to get to a Gathin of the Fools in Friendswood, TX ever since.     I haven't given up trying so maybe in 2014 I'll get it done..

For over 45 years I have smoked cigarettes, cigars and dipped snuff simultaneously. Massive amounts of them all too.

In one day I dropped all tobacco and started the e-cigs with no problems or cravings at all. I had tried the gum, patches and even combat zones all to no avail.

As for still being on nicotine, so what. I don't mind the nicotine, it's the tobacco and the 3000+ cancer causing chemicals the tobacco company's add that I wanted to get off of as well as getting the tar and tobacco smoke out of my lungs.

So anyway, good luck bud. And stay off of the tobacco. After you get comfortable in the "vaping" world you will find more Hardware and flavors.

Good for giving it a try Mark, eventhough you're not quitting, that's a start. On January 2, I'll be smoke free for 70 years (that's a joke, I've never smoked), but my wife smoked for about 18 years. One day she quit cold turkey, glad she did.

Wishing the best for you.

Hey Mark, I'm praying for you to make it. May GOD give you the strength to make it through the rough parts, and to give you the resolve to make it permanent.

I quit that nasty habit back in the fall of 1989, and haven't smoked one since. Ironically, it only takes the body 72 hours (That's right, 3 DAYS!) to break the physical addiction, but it sure takes a lot longer to break the mental addiction. It gradually fades away, and after a while, you'll lose all desire to smoke.

As long as you don't stop smoking briskets, chickens and sausages......... :cooldude:

I'm behind you quitting the cancer sticks.

I don't know what it's like to quit as I never started - my grandmother's emphysema and my dad's 4 heart attacks from smoking cured me of any desire.  So I don't know what to tell you other than stop so that you can enjoy your retirement riding around with FB for a lot more years.

Praying for you!

Hotglue, I really liked smoking from the age of 12 until 1989 (35 years), when I finally managed to quit (after 10 years of trying). It didn't work looking at the black lung tissue of smokers, or having bronchitis & the doctor saying "If you don't quit smoking, today will be a good day for you in the future." What did work was cold turkey, buying a mountain bike, and wanting to tour & camp in the mountains with front & rear panniers, tent, etc. And I couldn't say "Why me?" when they found lung cancer in 2007. I'm one of the lucky ones, no chemo, no radiation, just surgery. I wish you the very best of luck; with the e-cig, you're not getting all the tar & crap, I pray that it will be a positive step in the quitting process. One day at a time, for sure.

Thanks Karen ... and all the well wishers!..  Like I said in the original post...  I'm not say in I'm quitting...  I'm just saying this seems to be working for me.  I like smoking... I get pleasure from it... I know it's not good for me....  and the e-cig really seems to be working for me..... NOT cold turkey... and I'm still getting the nic hit.. But the tar and other bad stuff from the cigs are gone and not missed at this point....

Hey it may not meet the needs of some... but that doesn't matter to me...   It is good for me, and a step in the right direction.....10 days!!!!

If it is good for ya and you like it, nothing we say is going to change that.

So, all I'll say is enjoy while ya can.

 Let's see.

If I still smoked 3 packs a day . . .    and cigs cost $5.50 per pack. . .   and I quit cold turkey.  :cooldude:

By the end of 12 months I would have saved enough money to pay cash for a $6000 motorcycle!!     :cooldude:

Holy Crap!?  :o

I wished I still smoked so I could quit today and buy another bike in a year       :2funny:

Set the money aside like yer still smoking. And YES easier said than done. RIDE SAFE.

  I smoked for 11 years.

Quit cold turkey 44 years ago.  For many many years, the smell of a freshly lit cig would make my mouth water.

Never said it was easy...  but anything GOOD worth having is worth fighting for!  :cooldude:

Good luck Mark  ;)

If I'm not mistaken, some of the large cities have banned the e-cigs.

I smoked a pack a day for 18 years, then my g/f at the time told me she was pregnant.  That was it for me.  It was no longer about me.  I didn't want my soon to be wife to breathe in 2nd hand smoke, and didn't want my baby being born with defects because of me.  I quit 10 years ago, and cigarettes still smell good to me, but I want to be around long enough to be a grandpa, and I like setting a good example for my kids.

Honestly it is tough, but cold turkey is the best way.  E-Cigs will just keep you jonesing for nicotine.  The only thing that will cure you of that craving is time away from taking in nicotine.  It feels good to be able to exercise and not get out of breath.  It feels good to be freed from the craving feeling.  Even though you have stopped breathing in smoke, nicotine is preventing your red blood cells from carrying oxygen to their full potential.  Once you are off nicotine you will feel your energy levels rise.  You can do it!!!

Mark B., just cut it off cold Turkey, you can do it, I did, and you will feel a hell of a lot better.

If ya don't completely quit shortly, you'll be dragging an O2 tank around set on 3 or 4.

Trust this old fart on that.

Good to hear it, 'Glue.  You are the man that can do it.

As to increasing your energy level - be careful.  I'm not sure any of us could stand it.

Seriously, what you're accomplishing is a very significant positive step.  I can hardly think of anyone I would hope more for on that journey.

Mark , best of luck to you!  It's not will power,it's won't power. I was the one that posted the quit smoking . If I was the one to help at least one quit , then I am thankful. You have my best wishes. Hang in there. I quit about 30 years ago if not more. I still went to have a beer , and was able to avoid smoking as there was no restrictions then.
I believe that a tavern or restuarant should have the right to allow smoking. I will then pick and choose where I eat.

Quitting smoking is easy, its the bad habits that went with the smoking that makes it difficult to quit. I did cold turkey like a light switch and I can't even recall how long it has been. Its the habits that trigger the urge you have to beat, wait till smokers come around you and you will think "I use to smell like that" WOW. I don't miss it and don't have time or money for it. It takes a man to quit and you proved that, "Your the Man" Congratulations!!!

Good luck to you .... it's so much better to not smoke.  Funny thing , I had tried (yeah right) to quit MANY times over the years.  In 1991 I got real sick with a cold and put a vaporizer in my bedroom and closed the door. Next morning when I woke up there was brown crap running down the walls and dripping from the ceiling......cigarette tar. I stopped smoking that very day and never even took a drag off another cig. I think that if one really Wants to quit they will quit, and if they don't really want to, they can make all the excuses in the world why they can't. Anyway, GOOD LUCK....take it one day at a time and make it work.

Brown stuff running down the walls?      Wow, now that is spreading it high.    LOL.

Aw just hush up and laugh it was a joke.

Hold long before ya washed the walls and painted them?

I still have one room that it will not release all the firkin Nicotine to scrub off or even hold a good paint job.     Wife and I decided come spring, I'm going to tear all the plaster board off and redo it, then a good coat of sealer and paint.   Hopefully that will stop it.

It's like the Nike commercial.  Just Do It!  Longer life, no longer being treated like society's leper, not smelling so disgusting, save a lot of money...  Too many reasons to list.  I have a son who still smokes and, knowing the hereditary health issues he will face, it kills me to watch him.
