When I got the Jet bike, it had a lot of electrical mods and add-ons, including a novelty back-up beeper.  I could hardly figure out what was going on in the battery compartment, the headlight bucket, and under the right sidecover.

So, I put her up on the lift, stripped her down, gutted everything except the stock wiring and replaced the add-on wiring with this:



The fuse panel is an Ancor Marine Grade box from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NI3CM2/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The relay and relay connector is also from Amazon, available in packs of 5: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005HFYE1O/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The green wire comes from the negative battery terminal and connects to a ground bus on the fuse panel.

The red wire comes from the positive battery terminal and connects to the +12 in blade of the relay.  It is fused.

The black and white wires connect to the accessory circuit (inside the black boot) and are used to trigger the relay.

Total cost is about $35 and you've got 4 more relays and harnesses to use for driving lights, head light, horn, and whatever.

In addition, I ran a ground wire from the new fuse panel to the headlight bucket. (The frame ground pass through to the bucket can be iffy because of the bearings in the steering head.) The relays for the driving lights and headlights are in the bucket and are now grounded to the bucket mounting bolts.

I also ran three spare circuit wires from the fuse panel area to the headlight bucket.  These are capped and coiled at each end, ready and waiting if I need to add something new.

The bucket ground, headlight, horn, and driving light relay power, and spare circuits are all neatly in corrugated conduit.

and shorted stuff out.

I redid it with a PDM60 instead of a fuse box. The PDM60 fit under the
seat, but I still have a tangle of loomed wires under tail end of the gas
tank  I trapped the untangled PDM60 outputs under the old velcro
straps that used to hold the CB in place...

That's a nice clean look.  I couldn't use that space though because the Jet bike has the OEM CB sitting on top of the battery.

I like yellow bikes, but it's a polarizing color -- people either really like it or really don't.

The ones that don't give me a pass because I've also got one in fast-black.

Disco rides a Bumble Bee.  We ride together a lot, so don't want to look too much alike.  People might talk.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Thank you.  And yours can for an afternoon of head scratching and smoke testing (sometimes you have to let the smoke out of the system a couple of times to get it to work right!)

Did the Wing a couple of months ago.

Part of what motivates me is beside-the-road troubleshooting. 

Having been through a couple of those situations (although not electrical) the stress and anxiety can make clear-headed thinking difficult.

Trying to unravel a rat's nest of unmarked wires while parked on the shoulder with cars going by at 80 MPH is just something I don't care to put myself through.  At least this way, I know what goes where.
