James III,  I might have come up with a way to help with the water proofing of the switch block.  I am thinking switch covers to protect the switch and clear RTV to seal the base.  Found the covers on e-bay 10 for $3.50.

The lawyers in the house can advice better.

If you patent it, even if you don't plan to make it a business, nobody else (a corporation) can copy it.
If they do you can negotiate some sort of royalty or you can sell the patent for big buck$.

The guy who actually designed and implemented the World Wide Web (WWW), did not patent
it and by now, he might be flippin' hembargurs @ McDonalds while Microsoft, Apple, etc,
are makin' Billion$ off his work.

So i worked on 1/2 the project this weekend.  I installed the switch block, the relay, the valves and most of the fuel line.  I wanted to get it back to riding condition for the week and did not have all the parts to finish the tank install.  I am hopping I will work the tank install next weekend.
Here are a few pics from the install.
I found that powerade caps are the perfect size to cover the carburetor openings.

Installed the switch block.  I will install the water prof covers once they show up.

Factory fuel line removed

New fuel line with valves.  I left out the fuel filter since the one I got was to big.  I think if I get 2 small ones I could add one to each side right before it connects to the carburetors.

I used pull apart connectors covered in shrink wrap.  That way if i need to remove the valves I can just cut the wrap off and they will pull apart.


I used a relay I had setting around to power the switch block.


2nd Valve for aux tank under current fuel valve.

Temp plugged fuel line were I will add a manual shut off valve that will run to the aux tank.

After I got it all back together it fired right up ready for another week of commuting to work.

So I worked on the project again today. 
I got the leatherlyke Trunk this week and it was to small to fit the tank.   So I shipped it back.  So for now I am going to hook the tank up make sure it all works and then see about getting a leather bag that it will fit in to camouflage it.
So I needed to extend the rack a bit to make the tank fit.  I used a scrap peace of aluminum and stole a cutting board from the wife for my base components.  Started making templates and cutting.

Had to grind the pegs off the bottom of the existing rack


This is the initial stack up.  One Aluminum and two cutting board.

Cut the corners off the new rack

Painted the tank and rack black with Rust-Oleum Bed Liner.

Added a shut off valve and added a filter


I added a couple gallons of fuel and took it on a 12 mile test drive and it seams to be working fine.  I will do more testing this next week. 
I still need to build a catch can for my vent line.  I an going to make it out of a radiator can mounted horizontally across the back of the tank. with some ports added to it.

I put the rubber cover over the switch.  Found that the switches are to close to protect all of them so I will only install the one over the fuel switch.

I also started working on the catch can for my vent line. 
This is what I started with.  It is a radiator reservoir tank I picked up on amazon.


Started cutting


Drilled holes for the vent ports


Used some J-B Weld to hold it together



Used the bed liner to paint it black


Started working the tank mounting bracket.  It will go under the 2 straps currently holding the tank on then will have places for 2 house clamps to hold the catch tank on.  I used two pieces of aluminum J-B welded together



That is as fare as I got before I had to start getting ready to head to work.

  Finished it up today for now.   In the future I still might try to find a leather bag to put it all in so it just looks like luggage.
I will also need to figure a locking gas cap.  
But for now it is done.

I have to say it looks like a really nice installation.
You have a great skill.

What are the pro's of adding a rear rack mounted fuel tank over installing one under the bike like some others have on their bikes.
