swap L.E.D signal/running lites form incandescent type

 Will I run into problems on a Valkyrie if I replace the incandescent signal/running light bulbs with new type L.E.D.'s. Wondering if I will need to ad a resistor or not. I know on my Warrior It needed one to run properly or you could hear ignition over run after you shut of the kill switch. We use to call it the "click of death"  Thanks

I just changed all my turn signals (front and back) to LED from superbrightled's. I also switched out the indicator bulbs from incandescent to LED at the same time. This is what I found out:

If you are planning to change out only the front running/turn signal bulbs with led, you need to switch out your turn signal flasher to a led compatible one to prevent hyper-flashing.

If you are planning to switch out both front and back, you will need to install a new flasher unit as well as wire a diode to your turn signal indicator light to prevent bleeding (if you don't add a diode, both left and right signals will flash at the same time).

I did want to switch out front and rear and was planning on buying a smart module that runs the run,brake,turn. I do believe it either has a diode or some other means to prevent quick flash and other related problems on most applications. I just know with the Warrior, when you hit the kill switch, you got the click of death even with a smart module. Some guys put a few incandescent bulbs under the seat with a switch so they could turn them on just before shut down and then turn them off after the shut down. If you look at my Warrior in my pics, I wired it keyless to prevent ignition click by installing two switches, and a hidden kill switch so no one could start it. No resistors. If I put the high beam on at shut down, I never heard that click again. I guess the best way to ask is "Does the Valk sense an "amperage drop" and expect the bulbs to bleed off the excess at shut down.

I have changed nearly all my small bulbs to LEDs from Superbright.  Only my rear turn signal bulbs are incandescent.  That eliminates the need for resistors or diode Y's.  These lamps are on only while the turn signals are active.

Because of the Honda method of wiring the turn signal circuit, using all LEDs will probably lead to them not working right. In that case you need to add a diode kit that goes in the headlight. It's attached across the turn signal indicator on the headlight, takes at least ten minutes to install and no resistor or change of flasher is needed. You can get the kit from Kuryakyn for about $8.

You can get an aftermarket electronic flasher from auto parts store. It is more like a timer and does not require load to flash will work with LEDs or regular bulbs. about 13$ if I trust my memory.

When doing LEDs on the wife's bike, no auto parts store around (and we have hundreds) had any HD electronic flasher unit I was looking for.  One of the better NAPA stores referred me to a big 18-wheeler shop out near I-95, and they did have it.  (Those trucks and trailers are covered in LEDs)
