DENVER – Denver Public Schools administrators believe they are the first school district in the nation to actively seek out people who were initially brought to the United States illegally to now teach in the classroom.

"We look forward to increasing the number of great teachers who are in our classrooms and who are also role models for children who have similar cultural backgrounds and life experiences," Tom Boasberg, superintendent of Denver Public Schools, said.

Sounds as if Mr Boasberg is enjoying the benefits of the states new recreational marijuana laws.

you know, these last few years, I've been loosing my "love" for the beauty of Colorado......  I use to always tell my wife that if she would just leave me, I'd be moving to Colorado, but from what I've been seeing, and hearing, I'm starting to reconsider.....   :uglystupid2:

dealing with drunk drivers here in Wisconsin is scary enough, having to deal with pot addicts is another thing!!

That's it!!!  We finally have a solution to a vexing long-term problem.   :cooldude:

They can hire all the guys we've been holding in GITMO for years and years to teach school children in CO.   :2funny:

Most of whom have excellent past experience with firearms, so they can protect the schools doing double duty.

I haven't personally seen any effects of the new pot laws.  But I know they are going to be more long term, and have political effects.  Chiefly among them, the stupid legalization is drawing even more californicators and liberal voters to the state.  I'm certain the law has cemented the libs into office pretty much permanently.  Which means we will become the new california.  Which makes me SICK.  Damn I wish we could get an open season on hunting liberals, especially politicians.  With no bag limits.

There are people who were "brought as children" by illegal immigrants to the USA who now attend schools here and grew up to graduate college here and even serve in the military.  Why should they not be able to teach children in public school who are essentially just like them?

reminds me of a time on the construction job I was on.   At lunch we were discussing the different drugs that are addicting.    Meth, heroine, etc., etc.,     then someone said Pot....or marijuana was addicting.......one of the younger guys on the job got offended and said "BULLS$%#T......marijuana aint addicting......hell I've been smoking it everyday for years and I aint addicted."      ...........................................we all started laughing........he didn't have a clue.

yeah I've known several people that smoked EVERY day. Whether that means it's addictive or not I'm not so sure. But I still don't know why anyone would fear or be worried about pot smokers. In my experience they have been pretty benign.

I concur.  I was once a heavy stoner.  I quit because it made me stupid and forgetful.  There was no withdrawel or anything like addictive substances.  Yeah I know about that too.  At least with tobacco, quit cigs 22 years ago. Pot also doesn't ruin the judgements or abilities that alcohol does.  And doesn't make one aggressive or combative. If I was King of the World - aka Obummer - I might replace all the drunks with stoners.  W/O considering unintended consequences - just like Obummer - the roads would certainly be safer.  (Just for discussion purposes - I'm against nearly EVERYTHING Obummer does - and I'm against his pen & phone abuses - and issuing edicts like a king, and willy-nilly executive fiats, and not considering side consequences.  There's pretty much nothing the obummer does well.)

Dude! Are kidding? Streets full of stoners with yellow, sticky cheeto dust all over their fingers, trying to drive and stuff oreos in their face at the same time. Not to mention suddenly spotting a Dairy Queen and cutting across 4 lanes, an access road, and a drainage ditch to get to it.

Sorry guys I gotta disagree.    Anything you do to your body daily.....other than nourishment ......is a form of addiction.    I've been addictive to women and motorcycles everyday of my adult life.  Gotta get my fix as often as I can or I aint worth a hoot till I do.....ha

Honestly we in our culture today use the words addict and addiction to commonly.  There is a point at which certain chemicals in certain (in some case most or all) people develop a physical dependence upon those chemicals.  Truthfully, marijuana is not one of those substances.

Repeated use of mind altering drugs can be a very, very bad habit but bad habits are not necessarily addictions.

For what it's worth, addicts, although owned largely by their addictions are still responsible for their choices.

I am a recovering addict.

Saw that Colorado highway officials have been posting signs to address those driving while high on marijuana.

Smoking pot or tobacco while driving is distracted driving just like talking on the phone or texting or eating while driving.

The guy that killed my sister was smoking pot while driving.  He killed two people and he didn't remember anything.
You can't convince me that smoking pot won't dull your senses.

I'm sorry for your loss.  I'm guessing weed has some different effects on different people.  And the smoke common nowadays is much stronger, having been engineered for max THC content, than back in the day when I was a stoner.  But from my experience, mary jane (only) dulled senses?  No.  Dulled memory?  Absolutely.  Pot now, at least the "legal" stuff, is pretty potent by itself, but it's not laced with anything illegal.  Back in the day, you could get "sensimilla" smuggled in from Mexico, among other catchy monikers, that was laced with opium that boosted the high of plain pot a lot.  I smoked "Thai stick" which had at least that in it.  They were so potent one doobie would get 4 people RIPPED and hallucinating - bordered on acid trips.  (Yeah I did LSD too) Now that mix was some nasty stuff, and not what is being sold now in legal pot stores.  And certainly, such spiked weed would make it's intoxicating effect increased, and no one should think they can drive while using it.  Not saying they should drive while pot stoned either.  But back in the day, I did it many times, was not impaired like I would have been on alcohol (or spiked weed). Never toked while driving - didn't want the distraction. They are still figuring out what's the "legal" level.

I should clarify - I am not in favor of marijuana, don't smoke anything, and haven't for decades.  I am referring to my experience of my wayward youth.  Unlike Slick Willy, I tried it more than once, and I inhaled.  I was basically stoned for all of 1972-75, and sporadically for some years after that.  On some very good weed.  And on stems and seeds too, whatever I could get sometimes.  Remember the doper scene in the bunker in Platoon?  That was me and my pals during the nam.  And to this day I suffer the consequences of pot burnout from decades ago.  I don't trust my memory at all, and document everything heavily as a result.  I carefully husband my brain cells now, figure I need all that I have left.  Not to mention the rest of my cells.  The only drugs I take now come from bottles with doctor's names on them.  Except a beer or a margarita now and then.

Most, actually all, of the heavy pot smokers from decades ago that I know do have memory problems. However, they don't believe it, nor do the smokers of today. I wasn't going to bring it up though.
