Hi guys, just curious about something. If I wanted to convert my bike from an interstate to a solo rider( is this called a Super Valk?), Removing the rear trunk is nothing, but, what kind of seat is needed to replace my 2 seater? I guess I would need also the brake light that goes on the fender, right?
Thanks for your input.

Now this is getting interesting........

I thought a Super Valk was a Valk that moved the Trunk Forward as a Backrest in the Passengers

position. Truck Racer did this and Joe said that was a Super Valk.

Just sayin.

I also am  not sure if that is what you call it. This is what I saw

Go for it...

I did it a couple of years ago and it makes the bike feel better and it actually cuts down on the wind buffeting.....

You could just use the I/S seat, some have, but all you really need is the drivers portion off a Standard or Tourer (same seat).... I would suggest getting one 2000 or later....

You can buy them brand new on HDL for like $90 last time I checked.... I found a used one from a member.

Thanks for the reply! Sorry to ask, what is HDL? I would like to try this modification.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo, we are saying that just buy this new seat, which will fit directly into the brackets which are on the bike now, and that's it? Plus I will needed to find that fender mounted brake lamp assembly.

Yes.  Any seating that fits a Standard/Tourer will fit your Interstate.

You will need the taillight for a Standard or Tourer.  You'll doing some wiring work but it's not difficult.

A Super-Valk is an Interstate which has been modified to remove or re-attach the trunk at will and in a few minutes.

When buying the brake light, get the wiring harness for it also. Makes a neater install.
Without the trunk the bike balances better.

Have fun.

Tail light parts list and info.  [Note, several other Hondas used the same tail light lens, but the mounts are not identical to that for Valk (can be made to fit with work, but not a direct bolt up).  So if you go looking for used parts off a Sabre, Ace, etc, keep that in mind.]

Also once you have the trunk off and the mounting bracket apart, do the quick release mod/cuts found on here to get the trunk back on....

Many threads on here how to do it, but I don't have a link handy.....

Once you do it, the trunk goes back on in minutes...... I even take mine off On trips when we are going to be in the same area/motel for a day or two.....

As far as I can see, please correct me if I am wrong, there are only 4 10mm nuts holding the trunk in place. With-out doing  the mod on the brackets, wouldn't it be okay just to remove the 4 bolts? The other thing is the antenna bracket, don't want to wreck a great thing.... What makes our bikes a GL1500 CD A  in the parts catalogue?

Yes there are 4 10mm nuts, but they go on a stud that comes out of the fender rail...... Not a bolt.

You cannot get the trunk off now without taking the trunk box off and disassembling the mounting brackets to get the side pieces  off the studs..... it will take you about 30-60 mins (or more) to do it this way.

The slots allow you to keep the whole assembly together and drop it onto the studs as one piece... in about 5 minutes. Also having quick disconnects for the lights, speakers, and antenna set up makes it easier. You could use auto plugs found at a parts store.... I used the wiring harness that came with the used tail light for my quick disconnect ( it and the same connector as the stock harness and I spliced it into the current harness). For the speakers I used a 4 wire plug I got at Radio Shack.....

Also many people make another bracket (or 2 for both antennas) to mount the Antenna to the saddle bags or the bag rails if you have them.... In my case, I tried a hidden AM/FM antenna (don't do it) and then ended up using a shorty combination antenna once I got a CB...

I still use BOTH antennas on the trunk when I have it on because the shorty gets bad reception with the trunk on.

Hope this helps.

I thought it would. Hence, the slots. Okay. I noticed some of the Valks doing this use a stub antenna, which seems the way to go.

A standard seat will fit, but it will be very tight up again the gas tank. It might rub off some paint.

That's a valid point.  I should have clarified that I was responding to the question regarding "directly into the brackets".  The nose of the OEM saddle will get scrunched against the Interstate tank as it rises at less angle.  If it rubs off any paint you must've already had a serious paint problem.

Best fit would be an other than OEM saddle or one marketed for the Interstate, but the OEM pillion will fit fine.  Ultimate saddle for a Standard has the same issue so they market one almost like it for the Interstate.  Other manufacturers don't seem to have the nose issue.

Just to round this out, Mustang is the only seat maker that makes no distinction between IS and Std/Tour driver seats (that I am aware of).

A Mustang driver seat (with backrest) for valk would be a good choice.  They make seats without backrests, but you cannot later add a mustang backrest to one of their seats not designed to accept one.

Great points! Thanks!
