"At the beginning of the 21st century, Islam is one of the largest religions in the world.
With so much information in the world about Islam, it's sometimes challenging to separate fact from fiction..."

I personally dislike when references are lifted from a website to prove one's point.
Well, I have no point to prove so, opening this link might be instructive (or not).

Suit yourself.

Thanks Paxton.

Maybe you could find us something about how they treat non-believers.

That would be more interesting.

All I know of them is if you don't convert under their rule, you are killed.

Beheading, or chopping the head off is popular.

Shooting soldiers that have their hands tied up is quicker.

Flogging a pregnant woman with 100 lashes, and then hanging her for being a Christian is also

something I have heard of.

9-11 Twin Towers I guess that was a popular thing according to the dancing in the streets

in the Middle East, and in Gaza.

In Nigeria, Muslims have killed over 10,000 folks, lately kidnapped and selling into slavery 300

school girls. Yah there is that Muslims, selling folks into slavery, raises it's ugly head again.

But if you can clear up some of these peaceful people misnomers , I would, for one be Thankful.

GOD SAVE THE UNITED STATES from the democrats is my prayer.

I've heard quite a bit from friends who spent time in the sand box. It's OK to rape a little boy there but not to see a women naked. It's OK to enslave and mutilate your women folk there. And of course, setting young girls on fire, throwing acid on them and blowing them up if they dare to go to school is OK too.

That's about all I need to know.

We should'a pulled out the nukes the day after they attacked us. That's my opinion. American boots should have never been on the ground there. Just American bombs.

And the dancing in the streets didn't just happen in those far off eastern lands, on that particular Tuesday muslim university students were dancing in the streets of Buffalo.

The OP posted a very "vanilla" or basic definition of Islam.  It does not seem to explain the current behavior of the people that follow it. Most religions are like that.....what is written in the doctrine does not match the practice.  And the posting of such has seemed to stir the pot some

to see who/what we were dealing with. According to their "holy book" it's ok
for a man to beat his wife 'lightly'. Let your daughter marry one. It's ok to sign
any type of treaty or agreement with a non-muslim....they don't have to honor it.
Offer infidels the chance to accept islam. If they refuse they are to be killed. Yep,

The other thread was locked before I was able to ask one simple question.  (If the admins feel the need to delete this because I am kind of opening a locked thread, I understand)

What is the purpose of listing all of the atrocities performed by other religions?

It's like saying, well Bush did (fill in blank) when presenting this admin's skew-ups.  It doesn't take anything away from the screw-ups, it just demonstrates they all suck.  So what's the point, unless that is the point.  Then why not say that, instead of trying to make light of something by directing eyes to someone/something else's faults?

But, this is the narrative of today.

I think when anyone [ or any administration] plays the 'well, he did it' game, they lost. Seems to me that anyone should learn from previous mistakes, regardless of who made them.
Isn't making the same mistakes over and over expecting different results ,but not getting them, the definition of insanity ?

If its the same article I read.  The "crime" she is being convicted of is apostasy.  That is NOT believing in her fathers religion.  Its the law (for Muslims) they must follow the religion of their father.  Even though her father was a dirtbag and left while she was young so she believed what her Mother taught her......thats not good enough for that "judge" so she has to get 100 lashes after the birth, then nurse the baby at least once and then get hanged.  Ya, thats a religion we all should embrace...NOT!

MP

From MSN:    http://news.msn.com/world/sudan-judge-sentences-christian-woman-to-death-for-apostasy

The cases cited previously were terrorists, lone wolves, etc.  On both sides, Muslim and Christian.

This, however, is the Sudan court, backed by the Sudanese government, doing this!  Sharia law demands this, so they are doing it.  How can one say the faith does not allow this, when the court of the land, citing the Religious Law, is doing the 100 lashes, then hanging her?

I cannot imagine ANY state court, or Federal Court, in the USA doing this.  Can you?

Religion of Peace?  Maybe.  And, if you don't agree with them on that, they will kill you. Just to prove how peaceful they are.

This world would be better off without religion with #1 being Islam.

Even Catholics are set in their ways.  My now wife of 20+ years was forced when young Catholic life but  never practiced the Catholic ways never really believed in all of it and when we got married,  her very Catholic grandparents even went so far as to tell her that by marrying me, a non-Catholic, that my wife would go to hell for it.

How nice is that?   >:(

A co-worker has a boyfriend living with who grew up Joheva Witness strong family belief in it entirely.  So much that her boyfriends mom died in the hospital just recently because his Dad, a devote Johevia Witness,  would not allow a few pints of blood that she desperately needed to easily live.  She died because of that and could have easily lived if not for his Dad's beliefs in that religion.   To me besides not being common sense to have your wife die and choose religion over family living to me is a form of homicide.

The co-worker had to see her boyfriend's mom die because religious beliefs got in the way.  So much that she gave him an ultimatum that he no longer believes/practices in the Jehova Witness ways or she is leaving him for good in 6 months or less.  Reason:  he has severe M.S. and since they are not married doesn't want his Dad to persuade him to make his decision to die when that time comes since am sure he will be in the hospital needing certain medical care soon.

Disagree or agree,  just my viewpoint - flame suit on!  :coolsmiley:

Xtracho

Entitled to your viewpoint.....no doubt. My father was a Presbyterian minister for over 40 years. He was a Chaplain in the Army, served in WWII, landed at Anzio and was separated from his unit for over 7 days.

He never once harmed a single person over the cause of religion. Never once spoke a harsh word towards anyone that had differing beliefs. Raised 3 children that, despite some wandering, became adults with a strong moral compass.

Anyone can make their case with anecdotes....as you and I just have. Neither one holds very much water whatsoever in the big picture.

I've heard this slopped around by people from time to time.  It drips of ignorance.  It's what people do to define their own beliefs as in opposition to those of other people and saying, "If everyone believed just like me the world would be a better place."  Don't we all feel that way?

One dictionary defines religion as follows -

Quotea set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

That's pretty close to my definition.  To simplify it, one's religion is basically his (or her) world view on the origin and purpose of life including a sense of what is right and what is wrong.  Some include regular worship and some don't.  Some simply worship themselves.  There can be no human world with no religion, only the substituting of one for another.

Yes, I fully realize when someone spouts that "world without religion" theory they are usually atheists talking about formalized religion and choosing to insist their own world view is not a religion.  A quick study of relatively recent history in Cambodia and the U.S.S.R. will quickly demonstrate that theory doesn't do what they say in practice.

There will always be evil people in this world and one of the best ways they find to justify their evil behavior is to attribute it to their world view, their own code of purpose.

Truthfully, the world would be a better place to live if everyone believed exactly as I do.  Don't you feel that way also?

My religion doesn't require its adherents to conquer the world. My God will take care of that on His own terms in His own time.  My religion doesn't require me to punish those who refuse to believe or follow what it teaches, other than to make a choice about my association with them. My God will make His own determination of reward or punishment according to His perfect knowledge of their motivations and actions and response to the light they have been given.
