Ping me please ;) Thank you... u joint and swing arm bearing time at 92K

Mr.BubblesVRCCDS0008

If your just doing the u joint you can pull it without removing the swingarm. I've got 175,000 miles on mine and have never changed the swingarm bearings still don't have any play. I did the  u joint at 94k. Go to rattlebars.com for the info on u joint change made easy.

Patrick

Its been awhile since I cleaned and greased the swing bearings, didn't see the need for a special tool. But, then again, never saw the need for one for the steer bearings either.

thank you folks, I'll check Rattlebars and give the swing arm bearings a good check...

redflash

yup, that u joint sounded like a bad one in a '74 pickup!

caught just before it imploded, a little mess to clean up before greasing and installing the new one...

drive shaft spline is shot:

so is the pinion cup:

Parts ordered, overnight...

Patrick

Well, it didn't leave you stranded somewhere, thats a good thing. At least this isn't a hard fix.

new drive shaft and pinion cup should be here this morning, or the stealer is removing the overnight charges :) Old pinion cup removed, snap ring pliers at the ready to transfer spring, oil seal etc to new shaft. Tap, tap, tap! Turning a tiger maple wooden mallet handle while I wait...

All done but bags and windshield need remounting ;) Smooth and quiet drive train :) Ready for bike week!
